The previous blog provided my opinion of Barack Obama's decision to engage in "peace talks" with the taliban.

Now I would like to show you the taliban's opinion of how peace talks are conducted.

Excerpted from Tim Craig's article in the Washington Post (the bold print is mine):

Four service members were killed in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, the same day the Obama administration announced it hopes to jumpstart peace talks with the country's Taliban insurgency.

The U.S.-led coalition issued a statement early Wednesday saying the deaths followed an "indirect fire" attack, but did not identify the soldiers or their nationalities.

The Afghan Taliban took responsibility for the attack, saying the group targeted U.S. troops at Bagram Airfield and fired a rocket into the sprawling military base. Bagram, about 30 miles from Kabul, often comes under rocket attack, but such strikes are rarely deadly.

After years of conflict and in preparation for coalition troops to withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of 2014, the White House announced it will send a high-level delegation to Qatar to meet with Taliban representatives.

That, friends, is the taliban's idea of how to behave on the eve of "peace talks" with the United States.  How do you suppose it will behave during those talks?  After them?

NOW will President Obama and his people call this insane farce off?

Zeke ..... .... ..... The Taliban extremists hang people upside down and then cut off their heads. .... .... .... We should only deal with the MODERATE Taliban, who do not hang people upside down before they cut off their heads. ....... ...... (06/19/13)

Suppose you were taking care of a home that was in the process of being renovated.  And suppose you found four 8 - 10 year olds in that home who had already committed about $50,000 worth of damage/defacement, and were in the process of raising that total?  What would you do?  Would you hold them there and call the police?

Well, here is what happened when a man in upstate New York did just that, courtesy of excerpts from an article by Todd Starnes of Fox News:

A New York man could be facing up to four years in jail after he captured four young boys vandalizing his father-in-laws house - and held them inside a closet until the police arrived.

Jesse Daniels, of the Village of Clyde, is charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of children. Police say he threatened to hit the four boys with a hammer unless they got into the closet - a charge Daniels denies.

Daniels was watching television last Saturday night when he heard noises coming from his father-in-law's house - located next door. The house had been under renovation. Daniels told his wife to call the police while he went to confront the intruders.

Daniels discovered massive damage and destruction. Paint was splattered on walls and cabinets. Counters were smashed and entire walls were destroyed by hammers. Nearly every room was heavily damaged.

Filthy words and derogatory references to women had been spray-painted on the walls and windows were broken.

The home was vacant and under renovation. Daniels estimates the damages exceeded $50,000.

Inside the house - he discovered the culprits: four boys - ages eight and 10. The vandals tried to escape but Daniels was able to grab a hammer from one of the kids and ordered them into the closet.

"I was fortunate that they were in that room that had a closet, so I put them in the closet," he told television station WHAM. "I said, 'Listen, you guys are staying here until the police come, period.'"

The boys were arrested on felony burglary and criminal mischief charges.

But on Monday, police arrested Daniels after the parents of the boys alleged that he went too far in threatening their sons. They said he grabbed the neck of one child and left a mark. They also said their children were traumatized by the incident.

"I am sick to my stomach over this," he told the Wayne County Times. "I was a nervous wreck. I did what I thought was the right thing."

The parents are also upset with the Wayne County District Attorney's Office. They wanted the local business owner charged with more crimes.

Can you say....unbelievable?

There is a lot to be disgusted with here.  But the one that really gets me is the parents' insistence that Mr. Daniels be arrested and charged because one of their little angels had a mark on his precious little neck, and that the four boys were "traumatized" by being prevented from further damaging the home and writing more profanity on the walls.

Later in the article District Attorney Healey indicates he may not charge Mr. Daniels with anything at all, but instead may hit the parents of these four little turds (who, it is suspected, have done this before at other locations in the village) with a charge or two.

Way to go, Dick.  I'd say that's a plan.  You be sure to give it a bit of consideration.

Has the world gone crazy, or what?

free' The article says it happened on a Saturday night, I wish they would have been more specific on what time it was. (06/19/13)

Let me assure you, that title is accurate.  I wish it weren't, but it is.  The USA is in the process of setting up peace talks with the taliban.

Of all the harebrained, idiotic foreign policy actions of this administration - and they are legion - the idea of sitting across a negotiating table with the taliban has to be the single most harebrained, idiotic of them all.

Do these geniuses have any idea in the world what the purpose of the taliban is?  What its mission consists of?  Well, here is a short rundown from the BBC - which, if anything, gives it the benefit of the doubt:

The Taliban emerged in the early 1990s in northern Pakistan following the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.

The Taliban have in recent years carried out numerous high-profile attacks on Kabul

A predominantly Pashtun movement, the Taliban came to prominence in Afghanistan in the autumn of 1994.

It is commonly believed that they first appeared in religious seminaries - mostly paid for by money from Saudi Arabia - which preached a hard line form of Sunni Islam.

The Taliban's promise - in Pashtun areas straddling Pakistan and Afghanistan - was to restore peace and security and enforce their own austere version of Sharia, or Islamic law, once in power.

In both countries they introduced or supported Islamic punishments - such as public executions of convicted murderers and adulterers and amputations of those found guilty of theft.

Men were required to grow beards and women had to wear the all-covering burka.

The Taliban banned television, music and cinema and disapproved of girls aged 10 and over from going to school.

(NOTE:  why do I say the BBC is giving it the benefit of the doubt?  Because the taliban doesn't just "disapprove" of girls being educated, it blows up the schools and either pours acid on the girls or kills them outright.)

Can you explain to me what reason there would be to sitting down at a negotiating table with this "organization"?  What could possibly be accomplished?

But, then again, why would the fact that the taliban is a murderous, completely intransigent, wildly fanatic fundamentalist Islamic movement stop the geniuses in this administration from meeting with them and having a nice chat?  From maybe cutting a deal which makes them change their ways and become all warm and fuzzy, which, I'm sure taliban adherents will srcupulously hold to?  From having a wonderful photo-op, where everyone can have pictures taken....maybe even sing a few choruses of Kumbaya?

Tell me:  what will they negotiate?  Does the Obama administration have goals in mind?  Would it consider the negotiations successful if the taliban agreed to allow television in half the homes?  Conduct public executions on odd-even days?  Allow women to wear burqas with wider eye slits?  Amputate arms only to the elbow and legs only to the knee?  Pour acid on only half the 11 year old girls who dare to try and become educated?

Can this incredibly benighted bunch actually believe that there is some kind of negotiating wiggle room with fundamental lunatics?

No wonder Barack Obama is disdained by and/or laughed at by heads of state around the world.  No wonder Afghanistan's karzai - who owes his position to the USA - gives him the back of his hand.  No wonder mohamed morsi - whom Barack Obama was so instrumental in putting in power - now ignores him the way an annoyed father ignores his three year old whining that he wants a cookie.

And now he is going to "negotiate" with the taliban?  The taliban?

How could we have elected, and then re-elected, an unqualified, incompetent like this, who is in 100 miles over his head now, every bit as much as the day he took office?

We have no one to blame but ourselves.

free' Ken, I think if Obama and the VP along with senate majority leader (harry reid) house minority leader (nancy pelosi) and say the head of the state dept. (john kerry) should all head to Afghanistan and sit down with the Taliban for a few minutes (while they still have their heads attached) to discuss a peace agreement. (06/19/13)
