THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Ken Berwitz

Our Quote Of The Day comes to us from a veritable fountain of quotable comments - former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Ms. Pelosi agrees there is a culprit in the burgeoning IRS scandal, in which conservative groups were specifically targeted by one of the most powerful and dreaded government agencies there is.

And who might that culprit be?  President Obama?  eric holder?  Nope and nope.

Why, it is George Bush, of course.

What possible reason could Pelosi come up with to pin the Lie-RS scandal on former President Bush?  Well, here's her quote:

"You say it happened on (President Obama's) watch. It happened on the appointment of the head of the IRS, who was appointed by President Bush.  His length of stay extended into President Obamas stay, but I think that that points to the fact that, why is this a politicized issue, because we all are concerned about how the IRS does what its supposed to do, supports the law, but does not do it in a selective way."

The fact, for the last four years, former IRS head douglas shulman served at the pleasure of Barack Obama, not of George Bush, and that it was Barack Obama who could have dismissed him at any time of his choosing?  Meaningless.

The fact that, in 2004, douglas shulman contributed $500 to the Democratic National Committee, to be used on behalf of Democrat candidate John Kerry over George Bush?  Irrelevant'n'immaterial.

Dishonest political vomit of the kind that continuously spews from the mouth of Nancy Pelosi cannot go unnoticed.  Nor can it go unrewarded.

Madame former (thank God) speaker:  Quote Of The Day Honors are yours.

free` Ken, the worst part is she will never lose an election here in California. on election night right when the polls close with 0% precincts reporting, they declare her the winner every election. Tell me how with 0 % counted they can declare anyone a winner? could it be fraud? God I hate living here in California. (05/27/13)

NEWS FROM THE LAND OF REALLY TOUGH GUN LAWS

Ken Berwitz

No city has tougher gun laws than Chicago.  So, based on the halcyon dreams of the people who demand those laws, no city should be safer than Chicago, right?

From ABC News (WLS) - Chicago:

At least 17 people have been shot over the Memorial Day weekend, and six of them died.

The most recent victim was a man shot on the Near North Side just before 3 a.m. Sunday. Chicago police say the 42-year-old victim was shot in the head in the 1000-block of North Branch Street.

Another man died after he was shot in the head in a possible drive-by Saturday night in the 7300-block of South Dorchester.

Among the other victims was Leetema Daniels, 17, who was shot in the head Friday night in the 400-block of North Central Avenue. Another 18-year old man was seriously wounded in the same shooting.

There had been no arrests in that case Sunday.

Also, a shooting at a prom pa

Quintana Love, 27, was shot in the neck and died Saturday afternoon at a hospital.

Tell me:  How many of the fine folks involved in the 17 shootings and 6 deaths you just read about, do you figure, obtained their weapons legally?

For the millionth time:  strict gun laws are necessary and should be avidly enforced.  We should be very careful about who we allow to be armed this way.  But anyone who thinks that gun laws do a thing to protect us from people who obtain and use guns illegally has a screw loose.

These are TWO SEPARATE ISSUES.

You can enact and enforce all the gun laws you want, and the people who get and use guns illegally - as, I would bet anything, every one of the 17 shooters described above did - will be unaffected by those laws.  But not their victims.  It is a guarantee every one of them will be affected.

As for the politicians who  pass new gun laws, then rub their hands together and say "we accomplished something" regarding gun violence?  They are lying to our faces.

RADICAL ISLAM AND WILLFUL IGNORANCE

Ken Berwitz

Mark Steyn, writing for National Reivew, has put out a very provocative piece about the killing of  UK soldier Lee Rigby by two Muslim terrorists, who screamed "alluha akbar" as they butchered him with their machetes and cleavers.

Mr. Steyn is understandably outraged...enough to put a tone of general condemnation on all Muslims that I am uncomfortable with.  But, that aside, his article does such an excellent job of exposing the willful ignorance of media, and of people in power, to what is happening in front of their eyes - and what damage it is doing to Western civilization - that I consider it a must-read.

Here is a segment of what Mr. Steyn has to say:

As grotesque as this act of savagery was, the aftermath was even more unsettling. The perpetrators did not, as the Tsarnaev brothers did in Boston, attempt to escape. Instead, they held court in the street gloating over their trophy, and flagged down a London bus to demand the passengers record their triumph on film. As the crowd of bystanders swelled, the remarkably urbane savages posed for photographs with the remains of their victim while discoursing on the iniquities of Britain toward the Muslim world. Having killed Drummer Rigby, they were killing time: It took 20 minutes for the somnolent British constabulary to show up. And so television viewers were treated to the spectacle of a young man, speaking in the vowels of south London, chatting calmly with his "fellow Britons" about his geopolitical grievances and apologizing to the ladies present for any discomfort his beheading of Drummer Rigby might have caused them, all while drenched in blood and still wielding his cleaver.

If you're thinking of getting steamed over all that, don't. Simon Jenkins, the former editor of the Times of London, cautioned against "mass hysteria" over "mundane acts of violence."

That's easy for him to say. Woolwich is an unfashionable part of town, and Sir Simon is unlikely to find himself there of an afternoon stroll. Drummer Rigby had less choice in the matter. Being jumped by barbarians with machetes is certainly "mundane" in Somalia and Sudan, but it's the sort of thing that would once have been considered somewhat unusual on a sunny afternoon in south London - at least as unusual as, say, blowing up eight-year-old boys at the Boston Marathon. It was "mundane" only in the sense that, as at weddings and kindergarten concerts, the reflexive reaction of everybody present was to get out their cell phones and start filming.

Mr. Steyn then goes on to show us what the feckless, useless Prime Minister David Cameron has to say about this killing; how his looking the other way (and he is far from the only one doing so) is damaging what not so long ago used to be British culture.

I urge you to read every word.  Because if it can happen there, it can happen here.  In fact, it may already have started.

MEMORIAL DAY

Ken Berwitz

A reminder that Memorial Day is more than just a holiday and the chance to buy something on sale.  It is a day to remember the men and women who died in the service of our country.

I hope all of us keep that in mind...and think about who sacrificed what to insure that we live in a free country.

FOR ALL THE GLOBAL WARMING FANS

Here, from Noel Sheppard's chock-full-of-information blog at newsbusters.org, is a chart of average world temperatures for the past 16 years:

Does that look like global warming to you?

Just asking........

A WASHINGTON JOKE WE SHOULD NOT BE LAUGHING AT

Ken Berwitz

Did you hear the one about the Attorney General who is going to investigating wrongdoing....by the Department of Justice that he is in charge of, on charges that he himself is involved in?  In other words, he is going to investigate himself?

That is hilarious - if it is in a comedy movie.  A little like Richard Nixon personally overseeing the investigation of the Watergate coverup.

But if it were real, it wouldn't be funny at all.

Well it is real.  Again plumbing the depths of corruption, Barack Obama has informed us that Attorney General eric holder, who signed off on a snooping expedition into the private life of Fox Reporter James Rosen, and family members of his as well, should conduct an investigation into the snooping expedition.

In my mind, there are only three kinds of people who would buy into this joke:  unconditional Obama/holder supporters, yellow dog Democrats who would agree to anything that any Democrat proposes regardless of how corrupt it is, and people so naive that you probably could sell them parkas for a trip to Equatorial Africa.

But, then again, what do we have to complain about?  We had four years to understand what we were getting with Barack Obama and we voted him a second term anyway - complete with eric holder as Attorney General.  We have no one to blame but ourselves.

Now we can sit back and enjoy Mr. Obama's Accomplice Media either ignoring the ridiculous spectacle of  holder's investigation of himself, or rationalizing why it makes sense.  Trust me: both are going to happen.
