TWO QUESTIONS I WISH I HAD ASKED

Ken Berwitz

Earlier today I blogged about the ridiculously partisan "news report" from NBC's Andrea Mitchell regarding the Benghazi massacre, in which she did little but parrot Democrat talking points.

The bad news is that her report left two very important questions out there, which I did not think to ask.  But the good news is that Kyle Drennen of newsbusters.org, did.  So, with appropriate thanks for picking up the slack - and a fervent hope that you use this link to read Mr.Drennan's entire blog - here they are:

Mitchell promptly parroted Pentagon talking points to discredit Hicks: "But the Pentagon said today the commandos had to stay and defend the embassy in Tripoli, and were not prepared for a combat assault mission. As for buzzing the Benghazi consulate with fighter jets to scatter attackers, the closest F-16s were in Italy, or at least five hours away."

While Mitchell was devoid of any skepticism of the Pentagon argument, two questions become immediately obvious. First, how was it that military commandos "were not prepared for a combat assault mission," the very definition of their occupation?

Second, why would it have taken military fighter jets five hours to reach Libya from Italy? From the U.S. airbase in Aviano, Italy, it is just under 1,000 miles to Benghazi. A commercial aircraft could travel that distance in about two hours, maybe less. A supersonic military jet would take even less time.

Yep, exactly.

Until now, Benghazi has been a huge Mainstream Media dam, with more and more lies and obstructions on one side, which have not been allowed to break through to the public on the other side  But now, finally, it is cracking and springing leaks everywhere, with the cracks and leaks getting bigger and bigger every day.

What happens when that dam bursts?  I have a feeling you won't have to wait long to find out.

Zeke .... ..... The US airbases in Italy are closer to Benghazi than the distance from Tripoli to Benghazi. .... .... In addition to first line fighter jets, AC-130 gunships are based there, and were available. ...... ...... These gunships are designed specifically to pour unremitting fire on the periphery of a position under attack. ..... .... Never has a position fallen when protected by such a gunship .... which was first used in the Viet Nam war. ..... ...... (05/07/13)

THE TODAY SHOW AND BENGHAZI

Ken Berwitz

With the testimony of three whistleblowers looming tomorrow - who, it is claimed, have been severely intimidated by the Obama administration in an effort to shut them up - , here is how the Today show "reported" their upcoming testimony this morning.

Today put reliably Democrat-sympathetic Andrea Mitchell on, for slightly over one minute (about 63 seconds) to tell us what kind of testimony was expected by the whistleblowers -- and to personally rebut each element of that testimony, without one word from anyone who disagreed with her, of course.

In other words, Mitchell's "news report" was a recital of Democrat talking points.

-The troops were told to stand down?  Well, they couldn't get there in time anyway.  Besides, it would have left the Tripoli consulate insufficiently protected.

-A fighter plane could have buzzed the Benghazi facility and scattered the video proteste...er, terrorists?  Well, they couldn't get there in time either.

-Hillary Clinton covered up?  Nah, the investigators (who picked them, Andrea?) had "unfettered access" to everything.

-Hillary Clinton  handled it incompetently?  Well, there's a political sub-text:  she's the front-runner for 2016 so they're just going after her.

Yep, another hard-hitting, hard news report from Andrea Mitchell, and the rest of those fiercely neutral folks at NBC.

And, as pointed out earlier, not one word from anyone with a differing point of view...

-Nor a word about why Benghazi, and every other facility around the world, was not inherently on high alert because it was September 11th, the one day of the year terrorist would most want to strike and send us a message.

-nor a word about the lies we were told for weeks that this was because of a nondescript youtube.com video....

-nor a word about how this put the lie to President Obama's claim that al-qaeda and its offshoots were virtually non-existent anymore...

-nor a word about the politics of President Obama keeping the Benghazi connection to terrorism out of voters' minds (that wasn't important, but the politics of Hillary Clinton's 2016 run was.)

Oh, by the way, as I type this (at about 8:30AM Eastern), the Today Show web site has not put up so much as one word about Benghazi.  But it does have features on the woman Marge Simpson was based on dying, Whether Savannah Guthrie did or did not fip her middle finger on TV, Matt Lauer dancing with Ellen DeGeneres, and other similarly more-important material.

How do these people call themselves journalists?  How do they even face themselves in the mirror?

THE CLASSLESSNESS OF BEING DICK HARPOOTLIAN

Ken Berwitz

As you probably know, dick harpootlian, outgoing head of the South Carolina Democrat Party, has made at least two genuinely nasty, disgusting comments about Republican Governor Nikki Haley.  And it is very probable that he made others that I have not heard about (it is a good bet that someone who compared the Governor to adolf hitler's mistress, and said that Ms, Haley, whose parents are from India and of the Sikh religion, should be sent back "wherever the hell she came from", made other comments of similar, er, quality).

Well, he's still not finished.

Here is what harpootlian had to say about Governor Haley on MSNBC this morning, when asked about his "wherever the hell she came from" comment:

"She is not from India.she is from Bamberg, South Carolina, where she was an accountant in her parents' clothing store, called Exotia - Exotica.  And all I'm suggesting is she needs to go back to being an accountant in a dress store, rather than being this fraud of a Governor that we have"

Thanks, dick (and I do mean dick).  That was very edifying, I'm sure.

When vomit like this spews from Republicans, we hear about it immediately, almost always with the suggestion that it is a microcosm of the overall party's attitude.  So how come harpootlian can spew this disgusting material at will, with virtually no repercussions at all?

Could it just possibly be that harpootlian is from what most "journalists" think of as the correct political party, so he  - and the party - both get a free pass?

You tell me.

Oh, one other thing:  I do not make election predictions.  But, if I were betting, I would be betting that Mark Sanford, who was well behind in the polls just a couple of weeks ago, pulls out a win over Elizabeth Colbert Busch in today's special house election to fill the seat vacated by Tim Scott, whom Governor Haley appointed to the U.S. Senate.

If that happens, I hope South Carolina Democrats, who did not speak out against the dick who heads their state party, wonder long and hard about whether his comments were the difference.

BENGHAZI, THROUGH THE EYES OF MIKE RAMIREZ

CNN & THE KERMIT GOSNELL TRIAL

Ken Berwitz

Maybe CNN should change its slogan to "The most busted name in news".

kermit gosnell is a "man" charged with killing live, already-born babies, at least one women who came to his filth-ridden, unsanitary clinic, and - if the trial testimony is to be believed - either personally killing or overseeing the killing of hundreds more babies, thus possibly making him the most prolific mass-murderer in US history.

His trial lasted over a month, and is is now in the hands of a jury.  Throughout this time, almost all mainstream media doggedly avoided virtually any mention of it to their viewers/readers.

So how is CNN handling the gosnell trial, as it nears a jury determination?

Well, according to Mike Bates' blog at newsbusters.org, in 6 hours of yesterday's "CNN Newsroom" show, other than a brief discussion about the jury asking for definitions of the charges against gosnell (there are hundreds of them), here is the entire body of reporting, from host Wolf Blitzer:

In Philadelphia, the 72-year-old abortion doctor, Kermit Gosnell is awaiting his fate. He's accused of first degree murder for allegedly killing babies born alive during late term abortions. Jurors are now in their fifth day of deliberating after not reaching a verdict Friday.

Waiting for more?  Forget it.  That's all he said; maybe ten seconds' worth.

And - incredibly - Blitzer did not even get the ten seconds right:  the charge is not that babies were killed during late term abortions, the charge is that they were killed after childbirth, when the babies were alive and out of the womb.

Let me finish by repeating something I have said several times in previous blogs, and which remains just as germane now.

See, our media have a problem.  The preponderance of media sentiment favors the legality of abortion.  And gosnell performed lots and lots of abortions.

So the fact that he is charged with ignoring even the most rudimentary procedures in doing so, of lying about the stage of some women's pregnancies, of  doling out anesthesia on a "how much $$$ do you have" basis, and of killing the babies which, inconveniently, managed to be born alive?  Well we better tread softly on this one, guys.  If we are serious about reporting this we risk being attacked by NARAL, NOW, and other organized left-wing ideologues posing as "women's rights" groups.  We'll lose our credibility with them, and we can't have that.  Better to do some nominal reporting on gosnell, and go on to other news.

Like I said, media have a kermit gosnell problem.  Which means we have a media problem.

As you can see, I owe readers an apology.  When I speculated that mainstream media would restrict itself to "some nominal reporting on gosnell", I was wrong.  They - CNN obviously included - aren't even doing that much.
