DO THEY WANT BLIMPIE TO CHANGE ITS NAME TOO?

Ken Berwitz

As someone who definitely could stand to shed some pounds, maybe I should be offended too.  But I have to admit I'm laughing.

Excerpted from an article at Fox News New York:

Target apologizes for label on plus-size dress

Some Target shoppers say a label that listed the color of a plus-size dress as "manatee gray" was insulting.

The label for the same dress in smaller sizes described it as "dark heather gray."

Spokeswoman Jessica Deede called the labeling of the Massimo-brand "Women's Plus-Size Kimono Maxi Dress" ''an unintentional oversight."

She said although manatee gray was a seasonal color, Target was "fixing the discrepancy." She said the item was removed from the company website.

Deede told FOX 411 that "Manatee Gray" is a color label often used by Target.

"Manatee gray is actually a seasonal color that is used across product categories on Target.com, from apparel items to home items. This was an unintentional oversight," she said. "We will take this opportunity to learn."

Manatee gray?  I suppose it could have been worse.  They could have called it "Sperm Whale Gray", and insulted not only their physical size but their morals too.

When I read this, all I could think of was the beginning of Rodney Dangerfield's movie, "Back To School", in which he plays Thornton Melon, the owner of a chain of "Tall and Fat" stores.  Melon is watching his latest TV commercial, which advertises:

"...all the larger sizes...husky, stout, extra-stout and the new Hindenburg line.  And  for you ladies, we have caftans, muumuus, and our own exclusive A-frame in all colors and sizes".

Then it occurred to me; if Manatee Gray was offensive, how do "plus size" women feel about patronizing Blimpie sub shops? Or Fat Tuesday restaurants? Do they want the names changed to "Twiggie sub shops" and "Anorexic Tuesday"? I hope not.

Not only do I doubt there will be any demands to change those restaurant names, but - call me a hopeless cynic - I can't help thinking that patronizing those kinds of places just may have gotten some of them into their plus-size condition in the first place.

And before you light into me for being insensitive, please again remember that I admit to being well overweight myself.

Maybe, just maybe, taking offense should not be the first reaction.  Or, put another way, shouldn't we just, er, lighten up a bit?

LET US PRAY (THAT THIS IS A JOKE)

Ken Berwitz

How I wish this were an April Fool's Day goof.  But it doesn't seem to be one.

If you've got the stomach (or gills, such as the case may be), watch this video of a woman who thinks she has found Jesus.....on a "goldfish" cracker".  That's right, a "goldfish" cracker:

I've often heard the term 'Sweet Jesus".  But I guess this is the salty version.

Let's just say that if the same woman also comes up with a Buddha-shaped Malomar, the end is probably near.

THE NEW JOB DATA

Ken Berwitz

This month's job data have just been released.

-Job creation is terrible.  Only 88,000 (we need about double that amount just to tread water, let alone improve the unemployment situation).

-Job participation is even worse  In the neighborhood of half a million more people* have stopped looking for work, bringing the percentage down to 63.3% - the lowest it has been in 35 years.

-But, because so many people have left the job market, unemployment (calculated by dividing the joblessness by how many people are looking for work) has ticked down to 7.6% - which, not incidentally, is exactly where it was the day Barack Obama was elected in 2008.

Now, just for fun, scour the mainstream media web sites and see how many reports you can find putting a positive face on the 7.6% unemployment rate.  Do you doubt they'll be out there?

An Accomplice Media is an Accomplice Media.  And do we ever have one.

====================================================

*Individual reports differ widely on this, ranging from "almost a half million" to "663,000".  I don't know what the exact, accurate dropout rate is...but I do know than neither is good. (NOTE:  based on subsequent reports, the 663,000 number appears to be correct.)

Zeke ..... .... ..... HALF A MILLION people "dropped out" of the Labor Force last month ? ? ? .... .... After knocking on all doors and email boxes over and over, they suddenly become .... .... Non-Workers ? How do they feed their families and put a roof over their heads (and pay for ObamieKare ) ?. . .. . If you DO consider these "dropped outs", then the Unemployment Rate is 15% -- FIFTEEN ! And, it's been going UP during Mr. Obama's administration. ...... ...... (04/05/13)

THE OBAMACARE DOCTOR SHORTAGE

Ken Berwitz

From my blog of October 24th - not last October 24th, but October 24th, 2009:

THE HEALTH CARE SAVINGS LIE

Ken Berwitz

I've asked this over and over again:  How can any intelligent person believe that we can add 30 - 50 million uninsured people to health care (the number depends on which Democrat is talking at any given time) without raising the costs of health care?

It doesn't compute.  It doesn't compute any more than the idea that the quality of care will not diminish - i.e. adding 30-50 million new patients, without any new doctors, won't affect a thing.

And if you think those don't compute, try the concept that a government-run health care system will save money rather than cost more.  Can you name any government program that did not wind up costing more than the suckers..er, voters, were told?  Neither can I.

Simply stated, you would have to be a potato to believe the Obama administration's claims about health care.

Yes, it was that obvious that long ago - not just to me, but to anyone not mesmerized by Obamaspeak and the amen chorus otherwise known as his Accomplice Media.

Well, now, in April of 2013, we have this - excerpted from an article by for Candy Sagon, for AARP which, to its major discredit, has supported ObamaCare all along:

Let's do the math: We have nearly 30 million uninsured people about to get medical coverage under the health care law come January. And we have a projected shortage of 45,000 primary care physicians by 2020. Add to that the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), with 43,000 members who say they can offer basic care if state laws would just let them set up an independent practice without doctor supervision.

And the answer is ...

The nurse-practitioners, of course, say it's a matter of simple addition: New laws are needed to give them more autonomy.

But doctors say it's a miscalculation to think that patient safety won't be compromised by not having a doctor overseeing things. Family physicians have more than four times as much education and training, accumulating an average of 21,700 hours, whereas nurse-practitioners receive 5,350 hours, the American Academy of Family Physicians points out.

But with the health care deadline looming, a new push has been launched in about a dozen states to allow nurses with a master's degree or higher to order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications and administer treatments without physician oversight, the Washington Post reports.

The Post story noted that the health care law itself encourages the creation of nurse-run practices by requiring insurers to pay nurses the same rates they pay doctors for the same services, starting next year. Medicare, however, will still reimburse nurses at 85 percent of the doctors' rate.

So there is the "solution" to the inevitable doctor shortage created by a massive influx of uninsured people (a disproportionate percent of who either cannot pay for coverage or are illegal aliens expecting free health care on the US taxpayers' backs.)  Just eliminate the doctors, replace them with far less trained nurse-practitioners, pay the nurse-practitioners the same amount as the doctors, and everything is just great.

Is that a solution to you?  Before answering, please also consider what you think paying someone with a small fraction of the training (at a small fraction of the time, and cost, taken to get that training) exactly the same amount for exactly the same procedures will do for encouraging young people to become doctors.  Can you see them running - not walking, running - to apply to medical schools?

ObamaCare was a monstrosity then.  It is a monstrosity now.  Yet, collectively (what an appropriate word to use for this administration), this country has re-elected Barack Obama anyway.

We deserve what we vote for.  So we deserve this.  Will we finally learn before it is too late....or is it too late already?

Oh, one other thing:  If you use the link I've provided and read Ms. Sagon's entire piece (which I hope you do), be sure to read some of the comments as well.  This being an AARP site, you might think most people would be supportive of the "solution".  If so, you're in for a major surprise.

Put another way, seniors are not stupid.  See for yourself.

Zeke ..... .... ObamieKare makes delivery of Health Services more efficient. ..... ...... Soon, janitors will be able to perform surgery -- and they can cart out the parts removed from the patient. All that wasted time walking between hospital rooms can be used for mopping and waxing floors. .... .... Since patients have cell phones, they can order meals from local pizza and fast food places. ..... .... ...... .... ...... However, rest assured. There will be NO LOWERING of training and professional certification of patient care for the final aspects : Only fully licensed Undertakers can treat patients, once they are deceased. ...... ..... .... KERMIT WHO?

Ken Berwitz

From my blog of March 22 - two weeks ago - which talked about kermit gosnell, the Philadelphia abortionist who turned out to be a mass murderer as well:

In all, gosnell is charged with 8 counts of murder - one adult and 7 live babies - along with a raft of illegal procedures, including (but not limited to) falsifying how far along pregnant women were so that he could turn illegal abortions into legal ones.

Asking the readers who do not live in the Philadelphia area (though I probably could include them as well):  How much coverage have you seen or heard about this absolute monster's trial from our media?  As much as (abortion doctor George) Tiller's shooting?  Half as much?  A quarter?  A tiny fraction?  Anything at all?

Have you seen or heard the features?  The panel discussions?

Have you seen or heard any tying of gosnell's murder of live babies to Barack Obama's one-man stand against BAIPA (the Born Alive Infant Protection Act), which media conveniently buried through two presidential election campaigns?

See, our media have a problem.  The preponderance of media sentiment favors the legality of abortion.  And gosnell performed lots and lots of abortions.

So the fact that he is charged with ignoring even the most rudimentary procedures in doing so, of lying about the stage of some women's pregnancies, of  doling out anesthesia on a "how much $$$ do you have" basis, and of killing the babies which, inconveniently, managed to be born alive?  Well we better tread softly on this one, guys.  If we are serious about reporting this we risk being attacked by NARAL, NOW, and other organized left-wing ideologues posing as "women's rights" groups.  We'll lose our credibility with them, and we can't have that.  Better to do some nominal reporting on gosnell, and go on to other news.

From David Freddoso's article yesterday, at hotair.com:

You might not know it, but there's a mass murder trial going on in Philadelphia. There has been plenty of courtroom drama, and the death penalty remains a possibility.

The media are seldom shy about such sensational affairs, but they have been with one. Perhaps it's because the accused mass murderer is an abortion doctor, who along with his medically untrained staff is accused of killing a female patient and several babies who had already been born, alive and breathing.

Doctor Kermit Gosnell's preferred method of killing these latter, according to witnesses, was to sever their spinal cords. Upon his arrest in January 2011, his urine-scented and blood-soaked clinic was deemed a "house of horrors." (I will spare readers further details, which are far worse.)

Gruesome enough for you?

But two weeks further into the gosnell trial, and there is still virtually no coverage.  How can that possibly be?

Is it because, as beyond-sick as the charges are, the fact that gosnell is an abortion doctor protects him from the media coverage his murderous house of horrors should be getting?

You decide.  I already have.

ONE FOR THE LOST TRIBE

Ken Berwitz

Here's another one for the "Lost Tribe" to explain away.

Excerpted from Keith Koffler's blog at whitehousedossier.com:

The White House is picking winners and losers as it cuts back because of the sequester, and a planned reception for American Jews is getting the short end of the stick.

Many other events are proceeding as planned, but according to the Jewish news service JTA, the annual White House celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month is canceled.

Next Tuesday, the Obamas will be treated to a command East Room performance "celebrating" Memphis soul music, with performances by stars like Justin Timberlake and Queen Latifah.

During the (elder) Bush administration, Secretary of State James Baker allegedly said "Fuck the Jews, they didn't vote for us anyway".  Apparently, the Obama version is "Fuck the Jews, they are going to vote for us anyway".  Sadly, once you get by the offensive reference to Jews, in both cases the facts are all too true.

Politically, why should Barack Obama worry about Jews when so great a percentage of them come running to vote for him no matter what he does?

Of course that argument is even more true for Black voters - who gave well over 90% of the vote to Obama, compared to about 70% among Jews.  But that didn't stop him from keeping the soul music affair on the schedule, did it?

What do you make of that, Lost Tribers?  I can't wait to hear your next rationization.

THE KAMALA HARRIS "INSULT"

Ken Berwitz

Initially, I wasn't going to comment on President Obama's statement, made yesterday at a fundraiser (what else), that California Attorney General Kamala Harris is a good looking woman.  The reason?  There was nothing at all offensive about what he said.

But having watched one "women's rights" loopy-doop after another, straight from the netherworld of "I'll tell you what is and isn't okay to say about a woman, and don't dare deviate from it" attack the statement, which forced Mr. Obama to apologize today, I feel compelled to do so.

Here is Mr. Obama's exact quote:

"You have to be careful to, first of all, say she is brilliant and she is dedicated and she is tough, and she is exactly what you'd want in anybody who is administering the law, and making sure that everybody is getting a fair shake.  She also happens to be, by far, the best looking attorney general in the country."

Now:  what is wrong with that?  What is there to apologize for?  Help me out and tell me, because I don't know.

The President voiced a number of compliments about Attorney General Harris...the last of which was that she is very good looking (which she is).  AND?

Can someone explain why is it insulting to tell someone she (or for that matter he) is good looking?

If Mr. Obama had defined Ms. Harris as being good looking - i.e. if that were all he had to say about her - I would feel very differently.  I can certainly see the insult in calling the Attorney General of a state - whose position requires legal expertise, high intelligence, political acumen, interpersonal skills, etc. etc. etc.- good looking and nothing else.  But, as the quote plainly shows, that is not at all how Mr. Obama defined Ms. Harris.

For that reason, may I suggest that the women's rights hardliners who are having a cow over this, try growing up.

And if they do, I'll try not to think about the fact that, visually speaking, several of them are indistinguishable from the cow they are having.

(Consider that last sentence a test to make a point.  What Barack Obama said was not insulting, but what I said was insulting.  See the difference?)

free' Ken, you just don't seem to get it, by singling out her as pretty, he has hurt the feelings of the not so pretty AG's. And in the mamby pamby world of the left, that must be stopped. (04/06/13)
