ALL YOU HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT THE DEMOCRAT BUDGET

Ken Berwitz

Here is the first paragraph of the Associated Press's story on the Democrat budget - the first Democrat budget in four years:

An exhausted Senate gave pre-dawn approval Saturday to a Democratic $3.7 trillion budget for next year that embraces nearly $1 trillion in tax increases over the coming decade but shelters domestic programs targeted for cuts by House Republicans.

Simply stated:  spend a ton more money we don't have, raise taxes, cut little or nothing.

Greece on steroids.

What do you think about this?  Don't tell me now, tell me November of next year.

ILLEGALS AND OBAMACARE

Ken Berwitz

Yesterday, the senate voted on an amendment to the budget resolution which opposed ObamaCare benefits being given to the illegal aliens President Obama has handed green cards.

On a virtual straight line vote, the senate voted down the resolution.  This means the United States senate is saying that it is not enough to simply give legal status to illegals, but they will immediately reap the benefit of taxpayer-funded health care as well.

Every Democrat voted to give provide ObamacCare to these illegals who Mr. Obama has magically made legal, and all but two Republicans voted not to.

What do you think about this?  Don't tell me now, tell me November of next year.

RAHM EMANUEL: RACIST LIAR?

Ken Berwitz

Did you ever think that Chicago's Mayor, the hardline Democrat Rahm Emanuel, would be called a racist and a liar by Black constituents?  Did you ever think he would be blamed for promoting Black gangs and causing the murder of Black people?

Well, that is what is happening now.

And why is it happening?  Because Mr. Emanuel intends to close underused schools, mostly in Black areas by merging the students into nearby schools.  Oh, the outrage.

Just in case you think I'm exaggerating, here are a few excerpts from Friday's article posted at CBS News - Chicago.  Read on, and see for yourself:

The Chicago Public Schools' plan to close 53 schools and 61 buildings, mostly in black neighborhoods, has some West Side residents vowing to fight the Emanuel administration until the end.

As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, to hear some tell it on the West Side, Mayor Rahm Emanuel is a racist liar who doesn't care about the kids. And they're just getting started.

"I dont see any Caucasians being moved, bussed, or murdered in the streets as they travel along gang lines, or stand on the steps of a CPS school," said activist Wendy Matil Pearson as opponents of the school closing plans protested outside Horatio May Elementary Community Academy in the Austin neighborhood

The protesters said the CPS school closing plan would bring nothing more than more street violence and more blight.

"We will have more gangs, more murders, more killers, and everything," said CPS student Brittany Sanders.

Valerie Leonard, co-founder of the Lawndale Alliance, accused the mayor of trying to drive African Americans out of the city.

"He says that he wants to turn around the city of Chicago, make a new Chicago. Does that new Chicago mean no black folks?" she said. "Where are people going to go? They're not going to stay around in the community if there are no schools!"

The protesters weren't the first to accuse Emanuel of racism in his school-closing effort. The Chicago Teachers Union has repeatedly said the school closing plans are racist, as most of the schools that would be closed are in African-American communities.

On Thursday, CTU President Karen Lewis said the plan was both "racist" and "classist," and she called Emanuel "the murder mayor."

"He is the murder mayor," she said, referencing the city's recent problems with gun violence. "Look at the murder rate in this city. He's murdering schools, he's murdering good jobs. He's murdering housing. I don't know what else to call him. He's the murder mayor."

There you have it.  Rahm Emanuel is....a racist, a liar, a facilitator of gang warfare, driving Black people out of Chicago, a classist (whatever that means) and "the murder Mayor".

I am especially fascinated by the comments from karen lewis.  Isn't this the same karen lewis who demanded huge raises for Chicago teachers, despite the fact that over 4/5ths of Chicago 4th graders are not proficient in reading, and about 4/5ths of Chicago 8th graders are not proficient in either reading or math?  (Remember, we're not talking about how many are really good at reading or math, we are talking about nothing more than basic proficiency.)

But somehow the blame for everything lies with Rahm Emanuel.  Black "activists" (has anyone ever defined that term) and the head of a grossly underperforming union are calling him all the horrible things listed above, because he has committed the "crime" of attempting fiscal responsibility - i.e. trying to extricate Chicago from its huge financial hole by making a logical, necessary budget-cutting move.

Congratulations, Mr. Emanuel.  How does it feel to be an honorary Republican?

ISRAEL: IGNORANCE AND CERTAINTY

Ken Berwitz

I have said this many times, but it can never be said enough:  There is no subject discussed with a greater combination of ignorance and certainty as Israel.

Here is the latest of countless examples, from Friday's edition of the PBS show "Inside Washington".

NINA TOTENBERG, NPR: There also has to be lines that make sense for the Palestinian state, and, you know, I can't argue this with Charles with the same kind of detail and prevail, but I have looked at what the offers have been, and they're not realistic for either side still. They haven't solved Jerusalem. The Israelis don't want to share Jerusalem. Nobody wants to share Jerusalem. These are very hard issues.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: But you're simply factually wrong. In the agreement in what was offered in 2008 by [former Prime Minister Ehud] Olmert, Jerusalem was split. In what Israel offered in Camp David in the year 2000 with Clinton as the witness, the Israelis offered a division of Jerusalem for the first time ever. That's simply factually wrong. The Israelis have offered this, and Arafat wouldn't sign.

TOTENBERG: The question is how was it split.

KRAUTHAMMER: No. The question is would Arafat or anybody ever sign an agreement that accepts a Jewish state, and for six decades, the answer has been "No".

Simply stated, Ms. Totenberg didn't know what she was talking about, but she was talking anyway.  And even when Mr. Krauthammer corrected her with indisputable facts, rather than admit she was wrong Totenberg just shifted her attack to "how" Jerusalem would be split.

This time - this time - Charles Krauthammer was there to correct her - more exactly, to expose her abject ignorance to PBS viewers.

But how many times is ignorant nonsense like what Totenberg was spouting out there with no one to do what Mr. Krauthammer did?  I've lost count.

And ignorance about Jerusalem is far from the only issue where ignorance is displayed. Every time I hear the term "peace process" used I shake my head in disgust.  WHAT "peace process"?

-Gaza is controlled by hamas, a terrorist organization committed, in writing, to Israel's annihilation and the killing of all Jews both in and out of Israel.

-Judea and Samaria (the west bank) is controlled by fatah, which not only has signed a "unity agreement" with hamas - thus is just fine with its written committment to annihilate Israel and kill Jews - but teaches its children that Israel does not exist, and that there is great glory if they die a shahid (martyr) by blowing themselves up to kill Jews.

In all these years, Palestinian Arabs have never offered even one peace plan, nor have they ever accepted any of the numerous peace plans offered by Israel.  That is not a sarcasm, it is a demonstrable fact.

But, despite this, multitudes of ignorant "journalists" who are either too lazy and/or incompetent to learn the facts, or are so anti-Israel they don't want to tell you about them, continue to use the term "peace process" as if it has any basis in reality.

They are pathetic.

SEQUESTER WATCH

Ken  Berwitz

It is day 24 of the sequester.

Do you feel any different?  Do you think anything has changed?  Do you think the country has gone to hell in a handbasket?

No?  Me neither.

But that has not stopped Mr. Obama and his fellow Democrats, from desperately trying to make people suffer so they can "prove" the sequester is hurting us.

Derek Hunter, writing for townhall.com, has written an excellent summary of how they are doing it - including how Obama & Co.'s cataclysmic ravings about what would happen if it kicked in have a) not materialized and b) are (deservedly) becoming a public relations nightmare for them.

A few excerpts:

The government must implement - at most -- $44 billion in "cuts" this year. Half comes from the Pentagon. As for the rest, the president seems to want to deliberately implement them in the most visible, painful way possible - a liberal temper tantrum that rivals anything youve ever seen a 5-year-old do in a toy aisle.

Cancelling White House tours was just the tip of the iceberg. Our government spends $10 billion per day, every day. The sequester asks it to cut what amounts to the change found in government couch cushions every day, and all Hell is breaking loose.

Rather than cancel expensive and unnecessary junkets and conferences, meat inspectors are being furloughed. Instead of cutting back on office supplies and unneeded new uniforms, 149 control towers at small airports are being closed.

But these attempts by Democrats to enflame the American public have failed miserably. No one has noticed the "horrors" of sequestration because they pale in comparison to the real horrors of the Obama economy. The median income of American families has dropped by more than $5,000 under President Obama. That means fewer people can afford to go through the mythical longer TSA lines at airports to catch flights not at all delayed by the non-existent air traffic controller-shortage, so they can fly to Washington and not visit the closed White House.

President Obama and his fellow Democrats desperately need a crisis to "prove" what horrible consequences would come down on us if there were forced cuts in our impossibly bloated deficit spending.  And, by God, they are going to come up with one, even if they have to create the crisis out of thin air - while hoping you are "low information" enough to be convinced it is real.

Think of it as a test to see just how dumb, and/or how unconditionally committed to Obama & Co., you are.

NOTE:  After over three weeks of daily posts showing what a farce the chicken-little sequester scare has been, I think the point has been made, and then some.  Additional installments of sequester watch will be posted when appropriate, but not necessarily every day..

REAL RACISM (CONT.)

Ken Berwitz

This installment of Real Racism describes an ugly, insidious way of making Black people in New York City vulnerable, by indulging in smug, imperious, holier-than-thou political correctness.  And today's key perpetrator is the New York Times, aided and abetted by a far-left judge whose arrogance is guaranteed to create countless victims, the vast majority of them Black and Latino.

On Friday, the New York Times ran  a front-page story about a class-action lawsuit, Floyd v. New York,  in which New York City police are accused of being racist in their "stop and frisk" procedures.

Written by reporter Joseph Goldstein, the story twists, tortures, mangles and contorts reality to get to what apparently is Mr. Goldstein's - and the Times' - preferred conclusion:  that NYPD's "stop and frisk" activity is, in fact, racist in nature (the fact that, since stop-and-frisk was implemented, violent crime in New York City has plummeted?  Who cares?).

Heather McDonald, writing for City Journal, makes guacamole out of Goldstein's story - as it so richly deserves.  You can read Ms. McDonald's decimation by clicking here.  But let me give you just an excerpt or two:

It takes determination to out-demagogue New York City's anti-cop advocates, but the New York Times has done just that. A front-page article in Friday's print edition announces: BRONX INSPECTOR, SECRETLY TAPED, SUGGESTS RACE IS A FACTOR IN STOPS. The story goes on to claim in its lead paragraph that a secretly taped recording "suggests that, in at least one precinct, a persons skin color can be a deciding factor in who is stopped." In fact, the exchange in the recording, between a police officer and his precinct commander, suggests something altogether different: that crime determines who is stopped by the police.

McCormack's remarks on the tape show a commander fiercely committed to protecting the almost exclusively black and Hispanic residents of his precinct.

McCormack couldn't have been clearer: The vast majority of residents in the precinct are decent, law-abiding people. But simply because he tells his officers at roll call the suspect descriptions in a recent robbery pattern-which descriptions come from witnesses and victims of those robberies-the Times implies that he is demanding that people be stopped virtually on the basis of their skin color alone in all stops.

In this connection, I thought it would be useful to understand who will benefit, and who will be victimized, by either ending stop-and-frisk or making the use of this procedure so politically correct that it loses its value.  To do this, it is necessary to see who commits violent crimes in New York City, and who is victimized by those crimes.

According to 2010 census figures, non-Hispanic Black people comprise 23% of New York City's population,  Hispanics comprise 29% and Whites comprise 33%.  But when it comes to violent crime, the statistics are very different.

Here are the latest government data on violent crime in New York City, which cover the first 6 months of 2012:

-Murder and manslaughter:  Blacks:  55% of the arrests, 64% of the victims.  Latino:  29% of the arrests, 25% of the victims.  Whites:  11% of the arrests, 7% of the victims.

-Shootings (when victim is struck with a bullet):  Blacks:  73% of the arrests, 71% of the victims.  Hispanics:  24% of the arrests, 25% of the victims.  Whites:  3% of the arrests, 3% of the victims;

-Felonious assault:  Blacks:  52% of the arrests, 47% of the victims.  Hispanics:  34% of the arrests, 34% of the victims.  Whites:  10% of the arrests, 13% of the victims;

-Rape:  Blacks:  49% of the arrests, 41% of the victims.  Hispanic:  43% of the arrests, 38% of the victims.  Whites:  5% of the arrests, 18% of the victims;

-Other felony sex crimes:  Blacks:  44% of the arrests, 43% of the victims.  Hispanics:  40% of the arrests, 34% of the victims/  Whites:  12% of the arrests, 17% of the victims.

As you can plainly see, in New York City, Blacks and Hispanics (I prefer the term "Latino" but I'm using the government's terminology) are far more likely to commit violent crimes than their incidence in the population.  And you can see just as plainly that Blacks and Hispanics are far more likely to be victimized by violent crimes than their incidence in the population.

So, using a bit of common sense, is it hard to understand why stop-and-frisk is primarily conducted among Black and Hispanic people?

And, using the same amount of common sense, is it hard to understand why stop-and-frisk, conducted this way, primarily benefits Black and Hispanic people?

This said, it should be noted that judge hearing this class action suit is one Shira Scheindlin.  And Ms. Scheindlin is considered by many to be a far-leftist with a smug, imperious, holier-than-thou streak, who would like nothing more than to put the police in their place by killing off stop-and-frisk - no matter how beneficial its demise would be to violent criminals and no matter how many additional minority victims it will create.

The New York Post had Scheindlin's number last year, when they wrote a scathing editorial about her, which included this excerpt:

How much blood will federal Judge Shira Scheindlin have on her hands when she finishes dismantling the most effective anti-gun-violence program in urban America?

The Manhattan jurist yesterday ordered an immediate halt to the use of stop-and-frisk against suspected trespassers outside privately owned Bronx buildings.

This, even as the buildings' landlords have given cops permission to do so under the city's "Clean Halls" program.

Scheindlin makes no bones about why she's undercutting a program that has saved thousands of lives.

"The public interest in liberty and dignity under the Fourth Amendment trumps whatever modicum of added safety might be gained" by the use of stop-and-frisk, she wrote in a 157-page opinion.

Indeed, this is the same loony-left judge who refused to allow an expert to even testify about the effectiveness of stop-and-frisk as "irrelevant" and "too speculative."

Homicides here have fallen to all-time lows - reflecting the NYPD's critical shift from simply responding to crimes in favor of proactively preventing crime through crime-targeted vigilance.

Stop-and-frisk is a key reason why - however much Judge Scheindlin doesn't want to hear the evidence.

As Police Commissioner Ray Kelly noted yesterday, well-off New Yorkers - like federal judges, no doubt - are protected "by doormen who routinely challenge visitors to their apartment building"; less-prosperous tenants must rely on programs like Clean Halls - which is why "their landlords explicitly requested this level of protection."

Do you have any doubt where this class action suit is going?.

Well, if they end stop-and-frisk, at least it will make some people happy:  mostly the criminals who would be confident that if they carried guns or knives they would not be detected - along with the folks at The New York Times and Shira Scheindlin, of course.

But the Black and Hispanic citizens who will be victimized in the process?  Somehow I doubt that they will be quite as happy.

To demand an end to stop-and-frisk...when the crimes for which stop-and-frisk is necessary are disproportionately committed by Blacks and Hispanics against Blacks and Hispanics, is racism; just as stupid and destructive as it can be.

Real racism.  It comes in all forms, from all sources.  No group is immune to it and no group is immune from it.  Not even the liberal/left, polically correct ivory tower people who think they are striking a blow for equality by jeopardizing the minorities they have convinced themselves they are protecting.
