KIMANI GRAY: THE NEW TRAYVON MARTIN?

Ken Berwitz

Here we go again.

On Saturday night, Kimani Gray, 16 years old and already a familiar face to the law (three arrests since October), was shot to death by Police in East Flatbush, NY.

Police maintain that when they approached Gray, who was with four other males, he stepped back and reached toward his belt area.  They claim he was told to show his hands, but, instead, pulled a gun.  Police fired 11 shots, most of which hit Gray, who was taken to Kings County Hospital and pronounced dead.

However, one eyewitness (who claims to have seen the incident from a window) says she is "certain" Gray did not pull a gun.  And several witnesses claim he begged police not to shoot him before they opened fire.

A .38 caliber gun was found at the scene.  But, at least as of now, there has been no evidence released to indicate Gray's fingerprints were on it.

Since then, there have been demonstrations - or riots, depending on your point of view - every night in that neighborhood.  Police have been pelted with rocks and bottles, and stores have been looted.

Is this a mess?  Yes, obviously it is.

Who is telling the truth, who is mistaken and who is lying?  There are no for-certain answers yet.

Is this Trayvon Martin II?  We'll see.

I certainly hope not.

Zeke ..... .... .... Where is the picture of a 12 year old Kimani Gray? . . .. Where any of those cops White-Hispanics --- or Orange-Macedonians ? ..... .... Over 100 years ago,, Booker T. Washington (founder of the Tuskegee Institute) said it: .... .... "There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs -- partly because they want sympathy, and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. ... There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don't want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public." -- Booker T. Washington in his 1911 book, My Larger Education .... .... (03/14/13)

SEQUESTER WATCH

It is day 14 of the sequester.

Do you feel any different?  Do you think anything has changed?  Do you think the country has gone to hell in a handbasket?

No?  Me neither.

Not surprisingly Mr. Obama's Accomplice Media did not jump all over his whining, ridiculous shunting of the blame for closing the White House to tourists on the Secret Service, as if he had no say in the matter.

But, as his poll numbers go down (the latest Washington Post poll shows his approval rating has dropped from 55% approve/41% disapprove in mid-January, to 50%/46% now, which parallels the trend shown by Gallup and Rasmussen, it is becoming clear that - despite the protection media are giving him, increasing numbers of voters are concluding that he has been lying to them about the sequester (among other things).

The Obama administration desperately needs a crisis to "prove" Barack Obama was right about what horrible consequences would come down on us if there were forced cuts in our impossibly bloated deficit spending.  And, by God, it is going to come up with one, even if it has to create the crisis out of thin air - while hoping you are "low information" enough to be convinced it is real.

And in the absence of any such crisis, he is now forced to do what, as President, he should have been doing all along:  meeting with leaders of both parties and trying to get something done, instead of going out on the campaign trail, playing golf, and planning his next vacation.

Who says nothing good has come of this?

Another installment of sequester watch tomorrow.

=================================================

SEQUESTER UPDATE:  Today President Obama - who told us just days ago that the White House tours were the province of Secret Service, not the President - is telling us he has asked the Secret Service to reconsider shutting the tours down.

Your job, if you choose to take it, is to be so gullible that you believe he had nothing to do with the shut-down in the first place, and couldn't have made this request at any time until now.  Your job is also to be so gullible that you believe this is not being done because his poll numbers are dropping.

Please do not take the job.  Have some self-respect.

Zeke .... Yeah, Yeah --- I looked up dat woid in da dictionary -- Sequester : .... Isolate, Banish, Separate, Remove , ... ... ... .... ... Dis is a real good idea. ..... Exactly what we should do wid dem bums in Washington. ... ..... (03/14/13)

GUTTING MEDICARE

Ken Berwitz

Remember when President Obama and his Democrat cohorts told us that ObamaCare would keep Medicare intact?

Try to imagine how many seniors voted for Mr. Obama last November because they believed that promise.

Ok, now please read the following excerpts from Matt Cover's article at cnsnews.com, and decide whether you think that belief was well-founded:

The Obama administration is planning new cuts to Medicare, a federal regulatory filing reveals, cuts that could mean higher premiums or seniors losing their coverage altogether.

The new cuts come in the form of a planned reduction in the reimbursement rates the government pays to insurance companies that operate Medicare Advantage plans, which are services administered by private for-profit or non-profit providers that offer additional services than can be found in traditional Medicare.

In a Feb. 15 regulatory filing, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the surprised rate cuts of 2.3 percent - meaning it would pay health care providers 2.3 percent less for providing services to patients.

CMS said it was cutting payments because it foresaw the overall costs of the Medicare Advantage program shrinking by 3.2 percent, despite the fact that health care costs - the driver of all federal health care program costs - are only rising.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) wrote to the CMS urging them to consider political reality and reverse their planned Medicare Advantage cuts.

"This assumption is highly problematic because - even though it almost certainly will turn out to be wrong - it translates into lower funding to support the health benefits of the 14 million Medicare beneficiaries who are currently enrolled in MA [Medicare Advantage] plans," Rubio wrote on March 8.

So?  How do you think those trusting seniors are making out under the reality of what Mr. Obama and his people are doing?

How many more doctors (from the already-depleted current number) will no longer accept Medicare patients because of this cut?

As a result of that further depletion, how many seniors will either get less health care or none at all?  How many will die?

And - a big last question - why would anyone ever believe a word anyone from this administration says?

Oh, one other thing:  How much have you heard or read about this cut in mainstream media?  What's that you say?  Little or nothing?

Why do you suppose?.....

Zeke .... ..... ObamieKare only takes $750 BILLION out of Medicare. .... .... Three-Fourths of a Trilllion -- 0.75 Terra-Bucks. ..... ..... ..... Spoke with a guy from Aetna a couple of weeks ago .... he said that premiums and copays would go up. . . [Surprise ! Surprise !] .......... (03/14/13)

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Ken Berwitz

Today's quote - and it is a fascinating one - comes to us from the Muslim brotherhood:  those nice folks who include, among their members, mohamed morsi, who, in large part, can thank President Obama for his current position as President of Egypt.

Reacting to a United Nations proposal aimed at reducing violence against women, the brotherhood issued a statement which said this:

"The document includes articles that contradict established principles of Islam, undermine Islamic ethics and destroy the family, the basic building block of society, according to the Egyptian Constitution.  This declaration, if ratified, would lead to complete disintegration of society, and would certainly be the final step in the intellectual and cultural invasion of Muslim countries, eliminating the moral specificity that helps preserve cohesion of Islamic societies."

Hey, don't look at me.  They said it, I didn't.

And don't expect morsi to criticize them for it either....which should tell you how things are going for women in Egypt these days.

Thank you, Muslim brotherhood for that candid self-appraisal.  Somewhere in the distance, I can hear Cyndi Lauper singing "True Colors".

PRIME TIME ED SCHULTZ: R.I.P.

Ken Berwitz

Ed Schultz is being dumped out of prime time.

As of April, he will be banished to the 5PM - 7PM on Saturdays and Sundays - deep in the heart of  "Nobodywillbewatchingville.  Schultz's prime time slot will be taken over by mega-weenie Chris Hayes.

My opinion?  As much as I dislike Ed Schultz, I think this is nuts.

His ratings may not approach those of Bill O'Reilly, his direct competition at Fox, but they have held steady at about 35% or so of O'Reilly's, which is every bit as good as keith olbermann did.  And he obviously has a strong following.

I can only wonder what the thought process would be that replaces someone like Schultz, who effectively presents himself as a "working-class hero" type (phony as the act is), with the left wing equivalent of Tucker Carlson during his obnoxious bowtie years.

Big mistake.
