PAUL MIRENGOFF EXPLAINS THE CHAOS IN EGYPT

Ken Berwitz

Paul Mirengoff's latest blog at powerlineblog.com explains, in just four short paragraphs, what appears to be happening on the increasingly chaotic streets of Egyptian cities, and just what a mess Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have made of things there.

Here is the link (Paul's piece is too short to excerpt).  Please read it and see if you agree.

DID ISRAEL HIT A SYRIAN CONVOY ON ITS WAY TO HEZBOLLAH

Ken Berwitz

Media are buzzing with the news that Israel's Air Force may have struck, and destroyed, a convoy of trucks heading into Lebanon with arms for hezbollah - a terrorist group committed to the annihilation of Israel.

Boy I hope they've got that right.

A QUICK OBSERVATION ABOUT THE LATEST GDP DATA

Ken Berwitz

Fourth quarter GDP (Gross Domestic Product): minus .1%.

We have gone from a pathetically anemic recovery to negative territory.

I await the White House's explanation of why this is George Bush's fault.

free' I hope that number doesn't count December. Not only Christmas but record gun sales that month. (01/30/13)

THE MENENDEZ-MELGIN CONNECTION

Ken Berwitz

Last year, US Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) was accused of having a personal proclivity for sex with underage Dominican prostitutes.  He denied it.

This week, news broke that the FBI has been investigating the charges against Menendez.  He calls them "fallacious".

Now we have this, excerpted from from Marc Caputo, Jay Weaver and Scott Hiaasen's article for the Miami Herald:

FBI agents late Tuesday night raided the West Palm Beach business of an eye doctor suspected of providing free trips and even underage Dominican Republic prostitutes to U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J. - who has denied what he calls the "fallacious allegations."

Agents gathered at the medical-office complex of Dr. Salomon Melgen, a contributor to Menendez and other prominent politicians, to start hauling away potential evidence in several vans.

The investigation is believed to be focusing on Melgen's finances and the allegations about Menendez's trips and contact with prostitutes. A spokesman for Menendez could not be reached for comment, nor could Melgen.

Melgen has an outstanding IRS lien of $11.1 million for taxes owed from 2006 to 2009, according to records filed with the Palm Beach County recorder's office. A previous IRS lien for $6.2 million was released in 2011.

Despite those financial problems, Melgen and his family have contributed at least $357,000 to candidates and committees since 1998, according to Florida and federal campaign records. Of that, the Melgens have contributed about 9 percent to Menendez's federal campaigns.

Let's think about this.

A United States Senator is being accused of :

-engaging in sexual escapades with Dominican prostitutes, including underage prostitutes,

-during which his trips to the Dominican Republican may have been paid for by an "eye doctor" who, it is alleged,

-somehow forgot to pay over $11 million dollars in federal taxes for just one four year period -- which, at a 36% tax rate, and assuming he paid no federal taxes at all during that period, means he raked in, at minimum, over $30 million dollars in four years:  over $7.5 million a year (if he did pay federal taxes, his haul would be even greater).

That is one helluvan eye practice.  One helluva problem for Melgen.  And, even more of a problem for the U.S. Senator he has been feeding all this money to.

Robert Menendez has just started a new 6 year term.  What do you suppose the over-and-under is that he can survive the first of those years?

WAS NEIL HESLIN HECKLED? (MSNBC'S LATEST FRAUD)

Ken Berwitz

(Note:  most of the information I am using for this blog came from an article posted at twitchy.com).

Neil Heslin is the father of one of the 6 year old children murdered by adam lanza in Newtown Connecticut last month.

Yesterday Mr. Heslin testified before members of the Connecticut legislature and advocated for stronger gun control.  During his testimony he said:

"I ask if there's anybody in this room that can give me one reason or challenge this question, why anybody in this room needs to have one of these assault-style weapons or military weapons or high-capacity clips."

No one responded - probably because it was assumed Mr. Heslin's question was rhetorical in nature; i.e. he was making a point, not really asking.

But then, after waiting a full 5 seconds, in silence, Mr. Heslin added this:

"Not one person can answer that question."

Then, and only then, several people called out references to the second amendment.

At that point, the chairperson, disregarding the fact that Mr. Heslin had made it 100% clear he was asking for responses, said "Please no comments while Mr. Heslin is speaking. Or we'll clear the room. Mr. Heslin please continue."

And Heslin continued by saying "We're all entitled to our own opinion, and I respect their opinions and their thoughts.  But I wish they'd respect mine and give it a little bit of thought...."

That is what happened.  Nothing more.  But don't take my word.  Watch the video (starting at 15:04) and see/hear it for yourself:

Did you watch the video?  Good.

Now that you know what I have said is completely accurate, please be aware that MSNBC - continuing in the great tradition which we saw last year when it did the same during the Trayvon Martin story - edited the tape.  In this case MSNBC cropped out the beginning, in which Mr. Heslin posed his comment as a question, thus creating the illusion that he was being heckled by the people who, in actuality, were doing nothing other than answering him.

But, MSNBC being MSNBC, here is how the network is still reporting the incident:

Heslin asked why anyone needs assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Gun rights activists replied, "Our rights will not be infringed!" and "Second Amendment!" Local news sources reported that there were nearly a dozen hecklers, who were quickly silenced.

An outright lie - right down to the usage of exclamation points which suggest the responses were said more aggressively than how you hear them on the tape.

There were no hecklers.  Not one.

Not at all surprisingly, MSNBC's fraudulent editing job was the basis for countless attacks on the so-called "hecklers", and on gun rights advocates in general.  To the dupes who fell for MSNBC's fraud, they were.....(fill in the ten worst adjectives you can think of, you'll probably be right just about every time).  Use the link I've provided at the beginning of this blog and see for yourself.

And now - a day after the damage was done and without any apology whatsoever, MSNBC has put up a less edited video which shows the segment more accurately, with a disclaimer at the bottom of the page saying:

Editor's note: This story has been amended from the original version to clarify the context of the remarks; the original video has been replaced with a fuller version.

Translation:  "We edited the video to make it fit our political propaganda, and now that we've fed our red meat to whoever is gullible enough to believe us, we're "amending" it by putting up the truth instead of our lying BS.  Gotcha."

What liars.  What frauds.  What a disgrace MSNBC is to journalism - even the low-end journalism we see these days.

============================================

UPDATE:  As bad as I have portrayed MSNBC's editing job, it was even worse.

I just watched the edited tape, which (not at all surprisingly) was shown on the martin bashir show.  It not only edited out the "question" part of what Neil Heslin said, it also edited out the 5 seconds of waiting time and his comment that "not one person can answer that question".  All it shows is Mr. Heslin asking why anyone would need these kinds of weapons, and an immediate cut to the responses.  Then, since the commentary which follows is based on this edited tape, it sounds idiotic to anyone who knows what really took place.

martin bashir would need remedial help to achieve cretin status.  And MSNBC proudly features him every weekday.  That tells you everything you need to know about MSNBC.
