A LITTLE SOMETHING THE NETWORKS OVERLOOKED......

Ken Berwitz

What was one of the first things Barack Obama said he would do upon assuming the office of President in January of 2009?

No, silly, it wasn't to set up his golf schedule for the next four years - good guess, though.  Actually it was to close Guantanamo.

Well, it is now four years later, and we have this, excerpted from Charlie Savage's article in yesterday's New York Times:

The State Department on Monday reassigned Daniel Fried, the special envoy for closing the prison at Guantnamo Bay, Cuba, and will not replace him, according to an internal personnel announcement. Mr. Fried's office is being closed, and his former responsibilities will be "assumed" by the office of the department's legal adviser, the notice said.

The announcement that no senior official in President Obama's second term will succeed Mr. Fried in working primarily on diplomatic issues pertaining to repatriating or resettling detainees appeared to signal that the administration does not currently see the closing of the prison as a realistic priority, despite repeated statements that it still intends to do so.

Tell me:  isn't it big news that Obama & Co. held off closing Gitmo for his entire first term, and now is making it clear that it will not happen?

-Is it a black mark on Mr. Obama, since he - along with most of the mainstream media - made it clear the facility had to close?

-Is it a vindication of former President George Bush, who never considered closing the facility, and was mercilessly attacked by those same media for not doing so?

-Or is it both?

Well, if you're waiting for CBS, NBC or ABC to let you know how they feel about it, the wait is going to be a long one.  Because, according to Scott Whitlock of newsbusters.org, none of the three mentioned it in last night's national news, and none of them mentioned it on today's morning shows.

Scott does, however, remind us of what a big deal it was when Mr. Obama first promised the closing:

On January 22, 2009, then-World News anchor Charles Gibson enthused, "The new President says America is taking the moral high ground in making the country safer." On the January 23, 2009 CBS Evening News, Bob Schieffer parroted, "He will close Guantanamo prison and outlaw torture. He has told the world that we will practice what we preach."

Here's what Obama's campaign website pledged in 2008:

Guantanamo has become a recruiting tool for our enemies. The legal framework behind Guantanamo has failed completely...The first step to reclaiming America's standing in the world has to be closing this facility. As president, Barack Obama will close the detention facility at Guantanamo.

Fascinating, isn't it, that when Mr. Obama promised to close Gitmo it was the biggest deal in the world; a crystal-clear demonstration that, unlike the brutish thug George Bush, Barack Obama was a man of high-minded principle and superseding honor.

But now that he has instead made it crystal-clear that he is keeping Gitmo open, probably for exactly the same reasons Mr. Bush did?  Suddenly the networks have forgotten his pledge ever existed.

Guantanamo?  What's Guantanamo?  Haven't you heard, Beyonce may have lip-synced the Star Spangled Banner and Chris Brown got into another fight.  For God sake, try to stay with the real news, ok?

Over the years, I have found many, many reasons to call this sorry bunch President Obama's Accomplice Media.  Be assured this is another one of those reasons.

ARAB SPRING UPDATE: ALL THE NEWS THAT'S FIT TO LIE ABOUT

Ken Berwitz

Here, folks, is what the Egyptian government - that paradigm of the Arab Spring, of freedom and democracy - thinks about the holocaust.

Excerpted from Paul Alster's article at foxnews.com (but not CBS, NBC or ABC, of course):

A key figure in Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi's government called the Holocaust a hoax cooked up by U.S. intelligence operatives and claimed the 6 million Jews who were killed by Nazis simply moved to the U.S.

The outrageous claims, by Fathi Shihab-Eddim, a senior figure close to President Morsi who is now responsible for appointing the editors of all state-run Egyptian newspapers, came as the world marked Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan. 27, and also as the U.S. continues to assess its relationship with the increasingly radical Arab state.

"The sad truth is that these views are relatively common in the Arab world and are the result of ignorance on one hand and of government-sponsored Holocaust denial on the other hand."

"The myth of the Holocaust is an industry that America invented," Shihab-Eddim said, leaving no room for doubt that the Egyptian government -- like Iran's -- has at the very least significant elements that deny humanity's greatest crime of all.

"Fathi goes on to claim that the 6 million Jews all really moved to the United States during the war (and oddly no one noticed) and that the number of Jews killed in the war was about the number who died in traffic accidents," Greenfield wrote in Frontpagemag.com.

There you have it, folks.  The holocaust (or, rather, lack of holocaust), as explained by a key aide of Egyptian President mohamed morsi; the "man" entrusted with selecting the editors of every state-run publication.

And remember, fathi shihab-eddim would never, ever have said that without morsi's agreement and support:  hardly surprising since morsi himself has called Jews the descendants of apes and pigs.

This is the mindset of the great new "freedom and democracy" version of Egypt - the one Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were so instrumental handing the country over to.

That's much better than Hosni Mubarak, isn't it?

Let me end with these questions for the "Lost Tribe" - i.e. the Jews and non-Jews who support Israel but somehow figured out a rationale to vote for Barack Obama anyway:

-Are you pleased with what your guy worked so hard for?

-Do you thrill at these comments?

-Do you think they suggest that Egypt will in any way, shape, manner or form hold to the peace agreement with Israel that Hosni Mubarak honored for his entire time as Egypt's head of state?

Thanks, guys.  Thanks for nothing.

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Ken Berwitz

The quote of the day comes from Al Gore, that nice man who cares so much about the impact of fossil fuels on our environment that he sold his failing network, Current TV, to Al Jazeera, which is wholly owned by the Emir of Qatar - a country which generates 70% of its entire revenue from the sale, therefore usage, of oil, which, the last time I checked still is a fossil fuel.

But the quote of the day is not Gore's weaselly, illogical "defense" of the sale (which turned his financial disaster into an estimated $100 million of profit - again, only because of fossil fuels).  It is his defense of giving the terrorist-loving Al-Jazeera a ready-made, if small, propaganda forum in the United States:

"I certainly understand that criticism. I disagree with it, because I think Al Jazeera has obviously long established itself as a really distinguished and effective news gathering organization.  And by the way, its climate coverage has been far more extensive and of high quality than any of the networks there."

Let me give you, and especially Al Gore, a heads-up on how "distinguished" Al Jazeera is, by posting excerpts from Daniel Greenfield's disturbing article, posted at frontpagemag.com earlier this month:

In 2009, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, host of the network's most popular Arabic-language show, "Shariah and Life," said on air: "Oh, Allah, take this oppressive Jewish, Zionist band of people. Oh Allah, do not spare a single one of them. Oh Allah, count their numbers and kill them, down to the very last one."

In 2008, Al Jazeera threw an on-air party for Samir Kuntar when he was released from an Israeli prison. Kuntar led a Palestine Liberation Front terrorist team that kidnapped an Israeli family in 1979. He shot the father and killed the 4-year-old daughter by smashing her head against rocks along the beach. Al Jazeera's Beirut bureau chief hands Kuntar a scimitar to cut the celebratory cake and says: "This is the sword of the Arabs, Samir."

Both of these broadcasts occurred a mere few years ago. Al Jazeera has certainly not changed since then.

Liberal media critics will argue that Al Jazeera in English is different in terms of tone and content, but they should also ask themselves which is the real Al Jazeera? Is the real Al Jazeera the Arabic version or the English version?

In other words, we have the English version of Al Jazeera - the one useful idiots like Al Gore can rationalize as being "distinguished"; as providing the kind of coverage he wants on climate change (even as its ownership rakes in untold billions each year from selling the same fossil fuel Gore claims is destroying our climate).

And we have the Arabic version of Al Jazeera - the one useful idiots like Al Gore, and most of what passes for our mainstream media these days, ignore - which begs God to commit genocide against Jews, and tosses a celebratory party for a heartless murderer whose act of great bravery was to take a defenseless four year old girl and smash her head against the rocks until she was mutilated and dead.

Which do you think is the real Al Jazeera?  The obvious answer will require that you use about 1/10th of 1% of your intellectual capacity.

Then consider the fact that Al Gore used 100% of his, and came up with the wrong answer anyway.

Maybe that, more than anything else, explains his quote of the day.

...BUT WE'LL LET HIM GO IF YOU JUST GIVE US.....

Ken Berwitz

Here is a truly unpleasant, unsettling story I pulled from foxnews.com; a story which other mainstream media seem to have little or no interest in.  Maybe you'll feel that it is as important as I do.

Excerpted from Perry Chiamonte's article, co-written with the Associated Press:

Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, an American imprisoned in Iran on charges of evangelizing, was sentenced this morning to eight years in prison.

According to the American Center for Law and Justice, Abedini was verbally sentenced in Tehran by Judge Pir-Abassi, known as the "hanging judge," to eight years in prison for threatening the national security of Iran through his leadership in Christian house churches. He will serve the time in Iran's notorious Evin Prison, known as one of the most brutal.

The evidence, the ACLJ reports, was based on Abedinis activities primarily during the early 2000s, when house churches were not considered a threat in Iran.

"This is a real travesty - a mockery of justice,"  Jordan Sekulow, Executive Director of the ACLJ, who represents Pastor Saeed's wife and children living in the U.S., said in a statement. "From the very beginning, Iranian authorities have lied about all aspects of this case, even releasing rumors of his expected release. Iran has not only abused its own laws, it has trampled on the fundamentals of human rights. We call on the citizens of the world to rise up in protest. We call on governments around the world to stand and defend Pastor Saeed."

The exact crimes he is accused of only became public on Monday, when the prosecutor outlined charges that Abedini undermined the Iranian government by creating a network of Christian house churches and that he was attempting to sway Iranian youth away from Islam.

"This trial apparently is focused on 13 years ago, when Pastor Saeed converted from Islam to Christianity," Sekulow said in a statement to FoxNews.com last week.

To review:  Pastor Saeed Abedini was sentenced to 8 years in a notoriously brutal Iranian prison for the "crime" of, over a decade ago, converting to Christianity and possibly trying to convert others to his new-found faith.  This, in the bizarro world of Iran, is a "threat to national security" which, it logically follows, must hang on people being coerced to follow Islam and consider nothing else.

For a moment, let's forget the fact that, even if Mr. Abedini did what he was accused of, he did not do a thing wrong.  Let's forget that the actual "crimes" he was charged with became public on the same day he was sentenced.  And let's forget that, as noted elsewhere in the article, his defender was given all of one day to present a case.

The reality, based on what we have seen in the past with Iran, is that it could not care less about Saeed Abedini.  The reality is almost certainly that he is a pawn, being used as leverage against the United States.  That, since Iranian "justice" is based on shari'a law - therefore whatever the loudest-mouthed clergyman/politician says it is - Saeed Abedini can be released any time....if the United States makes sufficient concessions.

And what would those concessions be?  The best guess is that they probably relate to the sanctions imposed on Iran for its buildup of nuclear weapon capabilities, and the United States' positions on Israel - almost certainly on Israel's military, both defensive and offensive.

Let's remember that it is Iran which has ongoingly told the world it will vaporize Israel, not the other way around.  So if Israel has any designs on doing something to Iran, it is a direct consequence of the overt threats Iran has made.

Other than Israel and/or Jew haters (of which there is no shortage), what reasonable person would expect Israel to sit back and wait for Iran to go ahead with the planned annihilation?

So the issue is far from an individual pastor who has the misfortune of being valuable to Iran's interest in fomenting terrorism and death in other parts of the world - and not just Israel).  It is a test of how easily Iran can manipulate the Obama administration into doing its bidding -- by, among other things, further endangering our single most loyal ally in the region.

If I am right, and this is how the Saeed Abedini situation plays out, will President Obama step up to the plate and do the right thing?  I hope so.  But four years of this presidency has made it very difficult to be confident it will happen.

So keep your fingers crossed for Saeed Abedini, for Israel, for the other countries which might be affected,  and, more than anything else, for the honor and integrity of the United States of America.

free` When will people from the U.S. wise up and stay away from these shithole islamist countries? They are only asking for trouble. (01/29/13)

A-ROD: A WAY OUT FOR THE YANKEES?

Ken Berwitz

Has Alex Rodriguez (aka A-Rod) - an apparently over the hill former superstar whose hip surgery will keep him out for most, maybe all, of the 2013 season but who has four more seasons to go on his ludicrously huge contract - given the Yankees a way to cancel it?

According to an article in today's New York Daily News, Rodriguez and as many as 20 or so other major leaguers, were clients of  Anthony Bosch's "Biogenesis" clinic, and may have received hormonal treatments that appear to violate Major League Baseball's rules.  But good.

Rodriguez, through his lawyer, denies the charges.  But the article claims he was a paid-up client from 2009 right through April 30th of last year - a month into the most recent baseball season.

How do the Yankees feel about this?  Well here is their statement:

"We fully support the Commissioner's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. This matter is now in the hands of the Commissioner's Office. We will have no further comment until that investigation has concluded."

I read that  as saying "We can't do a thing about this unless the accusations pan out.  But, if they do, baby, A-Rod is going, going, gone".

Hmmmm, maybe the $12 million they shelled out for 3rd baseman (he plays 1st base too) Kevin Youkilis wasn't such a bad move after all.

We'll see.....

Ken Berwitz zeke - thanks for the belly laugh. Today, I needed it. (01/29/13)

Zeke .... .... .... The Yankees are taking a complete hands-off attitude in this matter. .... .... Well, except for painting a target on A-Rod's ass and borrowing a Place Kicker from the NY Jets. .... .... (01/29/13)
