TAXOCRITES

Ken Berwitz

How can rich Obama supporters justify using tax loopholes, sheltering money in tax havens and establishing residences in foreign lands with lower tax rates?

Well, the answer is that they can't.  But that doesn't stop these taxocrites from doing it anyway.

Michelle Malkin has written a terrific commentary about this, complete with the names of some (I guarantee far from all) rich Obama supporters who are neck deep in taxocrisy.

Please click here to read Ms. Malkin's entire compilation of compost piles who do this.  But, to whet your appetite, I'll give you an excerpt featuring just one of them:

*GOOGLE. The left-wing Internet giant provided Silicon Valley's biggest campaign finance boost to Obama, with individual employee donations supporting the tax-hiking candidate by a ratio of more than 31-to-one. Google rank-and-file workers pitched in some $800,000 to Obama. Google's CEO Eric Schmidt, Google cofounder Sergey Brin, Chief Legal Officer and Senior Vice President David Drummond, and Google vice president and chief Internet evangelist Vint Cerf are all vocal Obama supporters and top donors.

In December, Google's Netherlands subsidiary disclosed in a tax filing that it had shifted nearly $10 billion in revenues to a Bermuda shell company. That's "almost double the total from three years before," according to Bloomberg News. In response to criticism, Google defended the scheme as a legal response to government incentives. "It's called capitalism," Schmidt snarked defiantly.

Can't wait to read the rest?  I don't blame you.

But remember...if it's you, not them, those tax dollars damn well better be paid.

Taxocrites.  I just invented that word, and the more I think about it the more inadequate it is.

HUGO CHAVEZ: GOING...GOING.....

Ken Berwitz

Of all the home run calls various baseball announcers have used over the years, my favorite is still the late, great Mel Allen's "Going...going....gone!"

And, I am not especially unhappy to report, the same call may very soon be relevant for Venezuela's hugo chavez.

Excerpted from Anthony Bond's article in today's edition of London's Daily Mail:

Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez is in an induced coma being kept alive by life support following complications during cancer surgery, it was claimed today.

Sources at the hospital in Cuba where he is being treated told a Spanish newspaper he was showing 'very weak' vital signs, adding that doctors could decide to switch off the machines 'at any moment'.

With rumours swirling that Chavez had taken a turn for the worse, Venezuela's Vice President Nicolas Maduro said the ailing president's condition remains 'delicate' three weeks after his cancer surgery.

He did not provide further information about the president's condition and told Venezuelan's to ignore speculation about his health.

Is it true?  Is chavez this near to death?

Well, although a good number of foreign publications are reporting he has only months left (if that),  I don't see anything in the US mainstream media about it.  But this certainly does not mean it isn't true.  Heck, we've spent almost two years waiting for most mainstream media to talk about Operation Fast and Furious, haven't we?

Let's keep our fingers cro...er, eyes open.

WHEN GUNS ARE OK....

Ken Berwitz

Are guns ok?

Evidently, if you are the folks at Gannett's White Plains-based Journal News, the answer is yes.....when they are the ones in danger, that is.

You may remember that, a week and a half ago, the Journal News decided it would be a brilliant idea to post an interactive map showing the addresses of Westchester and Rockland County residents who have legal gun permits.  And when the inevitable protests arose, they threatened to double down and post the same information for neighboring Putnam County.

What great fun!  Stick it to those gun owners!

But, as mentioned in this blog (among many others), by posting which homes have legal guns, the Journal News was inherently posting which homes don't have legal guns;  information which would be invaluable to anyone interested in the safest homes to invade for the purpose of, say, robbery, rape, murder, etc.

In any event, since publication of the map the Journal News has received a number of threatening emails and telephone calls.  So - understandably enough - the people there became worried about their personal safety.

And, because they were worried about their personal safety, guess what they did?

That's right.  They hired security guards to protect them from harm.  ARMED security guards.

According to Dylan Skriloff's article at the Rockland County Times, the guards, from Westchester-based RGA Investigations have been on duty for some number of days and will remain at least until today (January 2).

Translation:  In the minds of the Journal News folks, protection for schoolchildren is not necessary.  But for them, get those armed guards in here, and fast.

It would be nice if  News Journal Editor cindy royle, who ok'ed the publication of that map, and Rockland Editor Caryn A. McBride, would put up an explanation of why their safety is so much more important than the safety of children....but I'm not holding my breath waiting to see it.

I hope royle, Ms. McBride and the powers that be at Gannett, are very proud of themselves.

JOHN BOEHNER FINALLY GETS ONE RIGHT

Ken Berwitz

Excerpted from an article at politico.com:

House Speaker John Boehner couldn't hold back when he spotted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the White House lobby last Friday.

It was only a few days before the nation would go over the fiscal cliff, no bipartisan agreement was in sight, and Reid had just publicly accused Boehner of running a "dictatorship" in the House and caring more about holding onto his gavel than striking a deal.

"Go f- yourself," Boehner sniped as he pointed his finger at Reid, according to multiple sources present.

Reid, a bit startled, replied: "What are you talking about?"

Boehner repeated: "Go f- yourself."

Finally, John Boehner gets something right.  It's about time someone said that to the execrable, lying hack Harry Reid.

Maybe this will be the start of Boehner getting a few other things right as well.

I would call it a precursor to that happened, but it seems a little late to use the term "precursor" about Mr. Boehner right now.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE WHO CRIED WOLF

Ken Berwitz

Hillary Clinton has a blood clot that is serious enough to put her in the hospital.

Let me stop here and reiterate what I said two days ago:  Whatever I think of Ms. Clinton politically, I (and, I hope, you) wish her a full, speedy recovery and perfect health for many years to come.

But, having watched the Today Show's feature on Ms. Clilnton this morning, which - though not said in so many words - clearly derided the initial belief that her physical problems were concocted so that she would not have to testify about the Benghazi attacks last September 11th, I feel compelled to remind readers of how well-founded that skepticism was.

The hearing she missed was the third on Benghazi that she should have testified at.  But Ms. Clinton - whose State Department made a complete mess of Benghazi, then lied for weeks about what caused the attack - already had found convenient reasons not to be at the first two.

Then, before this third one was to be held, out of nowhere we were told that she had suffered a "concussion" which would again prevent her from testifying.

Frankly speaking, there was every reason in the world not to believe her.  And I didn't.

In this connection, it should also be pointed out that a blood clot is not a concussion, so we still do not know what the real truth is.  Specifically we do not know whether:

-the concussion was phony and the blood clot real,

-the concussion was real and brought on the blood clot, or

-the blood clot is a completely separate issue...which would bring us back to the issue of whether a concussion was invented so she could avoid testifying.

The bottom line is that Ms. Clinton, just like the boy who cried wolf, kept pulling stunts to avoid testifying about Benghazi.  And that is why it was perfectly understandable for people to be skeptical  over her latest no-show.

Zeke .... .... Ken, it all depends on what your definition of "IS" . is. .... (01/02/13)

Hot Granny Whats the matter? Don't read or hear well. Mrs. Clinton and most of her staff was sick with a flu they had picked up in their travels. She got hydrated (not enough water in her system) and past out, hitting her head. It was her Doctor who ordered her to go home and rest. That may be why the blood mass behide her ear. And on top of all of that she was in touch with the Committee about Benghazi. There was never any wolf crying by Mrs. Clinton. Investigate before writing any thing. She could sue you. (01/16/13)
