It is about 11:05PM, and we are awaiting a statement from President Obama.  Every network is assuring us that Mr. Obama will report the death of osama bin laden.

The indications are that he was killed, probably by a drone attack, about a week ago and that the holdup was because they were waiting for definite DNA confirmation.  (Note:  Subsequent reports suggest the killing was a lot more recent.   The story is still evolving, and is therefore rapidly changing.  Eventually we'll have an accurate account.)

If this is true, the news is wonderful.  It is great.

If ever a "man" deserved to die a violent death, this is the one.

I only hope that his pal zawahiri bought it too.

More on this tomorrow.

UPDATE:  This morning, the reports are that it was not a drone, it was a ground operation and bin laden was shot in the head.

Even better.

I am trying not to carp at the fact that, in his statement, President Obama desperately tried to make this operation his.  Mr. Obama's wording that "I directed" the forces to go into the compound, makes it sound as if he were commanding the operation rather than simply giving it a go-ahead after our military did all the work.

And I am trying (unsuccessfully) to contain my anger at the reports that bin laden was given a muslim burial at sea.

I understand why we did not want there to be a physical burial plot, which his supporters and other USA hating groups could use as a rallying site.  But I do not understand why this subhuman scum was given a proper muslim burial.

He should have been held in a place of dishonor.  Then the body should have been disposed of with no respect afforded it whatsoever.

-The muslims who said bin laden did not speak for them would have applauded this treatment, because, to them, he would be a despoiler of their religion.

-And the ones who said he did speak for them?  Who gives a damn.  Screw them.

FURTHER UPDATE:  There are conflicting reports that a burial at sea is disrespectful.   Apparently some Muslim clerics say it is and some say it is not.

Boy do I hope the first group is right.

ONE MORE UPDATE:  From Fox news:

Usama bin Laden was given a religious funeral prior to his burial at sea, senior military officials told Fox News.

Religious rites were conducted on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier at about 1:10 a.m. Monday in the Persian Gulf.

In accordance with Islamic practice, bin Laden was washed and wrapped in a white sheet before buried at sea at 2 a.m. local time, senior U.S. military and intelligence officials said.

WHY?  What did this sack of camel dung do to get this kind of deference?

Now I'm disgusted.

Continuing its newly established love affair with hamas, what passes for Egyptian government these days has stated its intent to fully open the Rafah Crossing between Egypt an Gaza.  This is in direct violation of a 2005 agreement between Egypt, Israel, the USA and the European Union.

How nice.  Now hamas will not have to shuttle all its weaponry through underground tunnels, it will be able to run at least some of it right through the gate.

What we are seeing is the transformation of Egypt from a relatively secular state (in the cities, anyway) which engaged in a cold, but sustained, peace with Israel into an Islamic state that intends to be at war with Israel.

Is that an improvement?  Are things better there since the demise of Hosni Mubarak?

Thank you President Obama and thank you Secretary of State Clinton for your dilligent, ultimately successful efforts to remove Mubarak.  I'm sure you are more than proud of the result.

The 2012 elections cannot come fast enough.

Just a quick blog to show you how Jerome Corsi's new book, "Where's The Birth Certificate" is doing.

As you may be aware, Mr. Corsi's book is not available yet; its publish date is May 17th.  But it can be pre-purchased at, among other places,

Given that Mr. Obama has now issued what he purports to be his long-form birth certificate, it has been speculated by at least one major conservative web site,, that Jerome Corsi comes out a "loser" (presumably because, since the birth certificate is out there, the book will do poorly).

Well, it is now four days after Mr. Obama made it available.  And here is how Mr. Corsi's book is doing on amazon:

Amazon Bestsellers Rank: #47 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

#1 in Books > Nonfiction > Law > One-L

#1 in Books > Nonfiction > Law > Constitutional Law

#1 in Books > Nonfiction > Government

Does that result -  #1 in three specific categories and in the top 50 for all books combined - look bad to you?  It sure doesn't look bad to me.

I'll tell you what it does look like to me, though:  it looks like Barack Obama's supposed "birth certificate" is being met with a great deal of skepticism.  It looks like an awful lot of people still wonder where the real birth certificate is.

I'll continue to keep an eye on the sales of Mr. Corsi's book, and blog about it at least one more time before the publication date.

This comes to us from our pal West Coast Russ.

I don't know if the event described below did or did not actually happen.  But, then again, who cares?  It's a fun story either way:

In Mt. Vernon, Texas, Drummond's Bar began construction on expansion of their
building to increase their business. In response, the local Baptist Church
started a campaign to block the bar from expanding with petitions and prayers.
Work progressed right up until the week before the grand reopening when
lightning struck the bar and it burned to the ground.

After this event, the church folks were rather smug in their outlook, bragging
about the power of prayer, until the bar owner sued the church on the grounds
that the church "...was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building,
either through direct or indirect actions or means."

In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or
any connection to the building's demise.

The judge read through the plaintiff's complaint and the defendant's reply, and
at the opening hearing he commented: "I don't know how I'm going to decide this,
but it appears from the paperwork that we have a bar owner who believes in the
power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that now does not."

It's hard to find any part of the great musical "Fiddler On The Roof" that would match up to the United Nation's horrible behavior regarding Syria.  But here it is:

(Yente)  Avram, I have a perfect match for your son. A wonderful girl."

"Who is it?"

"Ruchel, the shoemaker's daughter."

"Ruchel? But she can hardly see. She's almost blind."

(Yente) "Tell the truth, Avram, is your son so much to look at? The way she sees and the way he looks, it's a perfect match."

What is the parallel?  It is that Syria's subhuman, mass murdering dicator, bashar al-assad, continues to slaughter his people, and the UN continues to be conveniently blind to it all.  A perfect match.

Excerpted from Joseph Klein's article at

United Nations MIA on Syria

The United Nations Security Council has reverted to its usual modus operandi: inaction. On April 27th, after receiving a detailed report by the UNs Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs, Lynn Pascoe, on the violence unleashed by the Syrian government against its own people, the council members were unable to agree on a simple press statement calling on the Syrian government to stop its brutality.

The Security Council members listened to Pascoe, but the result was pre-ordained. Under Security Council rules, all fifteen members must approve in order for a press statement to be issued in the name of the council. In this case, Lebanon refused to go along with any press release for fear of offending Syria.

The Syrian ambassador responded to the Iranian connection charge by characterizing it as a Hollywoodian attempt to link the two countries, which he asserted did not respect the Security Councils status and clearly showed the true negative intent of the United States towards Syria.

Lebanons UN Ambassador Nawaf Salam explained that there were special links between his country and Syria due to history and common fraternal interests, as well as mutual security concerns.

Exactly what special links does Ambassador Salam have in mind, considering that Syria has been implicated in the assassination of the former Prime Minister of Lebanon, Rafik Hariri? One might think that many people in Lebanon who are concerned about Lebanons independence would want to distance themselves from the Syrian government. That might have been true before Hezbollah, Irans terrorist arm in Lebanon, engineered the collapse of the ruling coalition headed by Rafik Hariris son, Saad Hariri, leaving a caretaker government that effectively reflects Hezbollahs Syria-friendly agenda. Syria is strategically important to Iran as a conduit for transporting arms to Hezbollah in Lebanon for use against Israel.

Adding to the disgrace of Security Council paralysis, Syria is currently likely to be elected to the UN Human Rights Council unless there is a last minute successful effort to stop them. While the Human Rights Council is scheduled to discuss Syria during a special session, the Arab League has indicated its support for having Syria join the Human Rights Council in May.

At the United Nations, if you have the right friends, you not only get shielded from the consequences of your human rights violations. You get a seat of honor on the UNs Human Rights Council.

Beautiful.  The UN does not so much as criticize Syria for slaughtering its own citizens, but it will reward Syria with a seat on the "Human Rights" Council" - alongside such champions of human rights as China, Cuba, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia (among others).

Now you know why it is called the "UN".  Because it is

-UNwilling and UNable to do a thing about mass murderers like al-assad (he is far from the only one),

-UNilaterally opposed to any enemy of Israel being chastised for anything ever,

-UNimaginably ineffective when its own troops rape and kill women in places like the Cong, and therefore

-UNresponsive to human suffering.

The UN is dead.  Morally, spiritually and ethically dead.  But it still lies in state on Manhattan's east side.

Maybe it is time for a proper burial.  I suggest New York Mayor Bloomberg re-open Staten Island's Fresh Kills landfill, and dump the UN there.  It just might make the rest of the garbage smell better by comparison.

Well, the NATO airstrikes have certainly accomplished something.

moammar qaddafi is still alive and in power.  But his son, and three of his grandchildren are dead.

Is this supposed to bring peace to Libya?

Is this supposed to mobilize Libyans against qaddafi?

Would this have happened if the USA has voluntarily given up control of the bombing in Libya and handed it to NATO?

Could Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton bungle this mess any worse?

There are more reasons for the spike in energy prices than this administration's continuing refusal to exploit our vast oil reserves.  And one of the most significant is its trillion dollar deficits and concomitant devaluation of the dollar.

Excerpted from Gary White's article at the London Daily Telegraph:

If President Obama is to be believed, "speculators" are responsible for the rise in oil prices that threatens the global recovery. However, for the real drivers of the oil price, the President needs to look closer to home.

The US has continued to devalue its currency by allowing the Federal Reserve to print dollars like they are going out of fashion. This has boosted the price of all commodities and the trend is likely to continue for the rest of this year.

Commodities such as oil are priced in dollars. When the dollar falls, these commodities be they copper, wheat or oil become cheaper in other currencies. This prompts "speculators" to buy. Prices of raw materials have therefore risen on a sea of dollar liquidity fuelled by cheap money and quantitative easing.

This is the reason that the gold price keeps hitting all-time highs, as US policy causes faith in "fiat money" to crumble. No country in the world has its currency backed by gold and the plan to spend America out of the downturn is making a mockery of the country's "strong dollar" policy.

The President must also remember that it's not only "evil" bankers who are involved in the oil derivatives markets airlines and other large consumers have to hedge their businesses against fluctuations in prices. Oil companies also use derivatives to hedge positions. The proportion of speculators in the market is really quite small it's just that they are an easy target for politicians wishing to deflect opinion away from their own shortcomings.

It is not a coincidence that the dollar index, which tracks the US currency against those of six major trading partners, has fallen as the oil price has risen over the past year - there is a remarkable correlation.

As Mr. White shows, the devaluation of our dollar is, pretty clearly, a major component of the rise in oil prices.

What can we do about it?  Until Democrats either turn away from President Obama (not likely) or lose control of the senate (much more likely), not a great deal.  But it is important to understand just how much the trillion dollar deficits they are inflicting on us have to do with the price we now pay to fill our cars and heat our homes.

That's worth remembering on election day next year.

Yom Ha'shoah. That's the hebrew term for "day of the holocaust".

How do you handle a day like this?  Maybe the best way is to recognize that the day is not necessarily over.

Here is an excerpt from Jeff Jacoby's column in the Boston Globe.  It is probably too large of an except (sorry Jeff) but I would rather exceed internet propriety a bit than leave anything out.  Please pay special attention to the paragraphs I've put in bold print:

On this Holocaust Remembrance Day, it hardly needs to be said that mass murder didn't end with the defeat of the Third Reich. In the decades since 1945, innocent men, women, and children beyond number have been massacred -- in Mao's China and Pol Pot's Cambodia, in the Soviet gulag and North Korean slave camps, in Rwanda and Bosnia, Sudan and Syria, Pakistan and India, Congo and Uganda. Yet even in an epoch that has shattered every record for bloodiness and barbarity, the Holocaust is unique. What sets it apart from other campaigns of butchery is not its body count or its brutality or its genocidal nature. Nor is it the rapidity with which it was carried out, or the international indifference against which it unfolded.

The destruction of European Jewry stands alone because it was not a means to any end. The "Final Solution" was an end in itself. Jews were not murdered by the millions in the context of a struggle for power or land or wealth. There was no political or economic rationale for wiping out the Jews; they had nothing the Nazis coveted, and Germany gained nothing by their deaths. There was only the monomaniacal ideology of eliminationist antisemitism -- the determination to track down and kill anyone born of Jewish ancestry. "It was precisely this -- the fact of being born -- that was the mortal sin, to be punished by death," the historian Yehuda Bauer has observed. "That had never happened at any time -- or anywhere -- before."

Jews were satanic, Hitler said -- the seed and prototype of the Judeo-Christian values to which the National Socialist revolution was so violently opposed. Their very existence was a threat to the Nazi creed of Aryan power, blood, and soil. Consequently, they had to be physically destroyed. Not segregated, not expelled, not forced to convert or assimilate. Destroyed.

To accomplish that destruction, one of the most advanced nations on Earth committed astonishing financial, industrial, scientific, and human resources. Murdering Jews was of a higher priority even than winning the war against the Allies. In 1944, with Germany's military position growing desperate, military personnel and freight trains urgently needed on the battlefront were diverted to deport half a million Jews from Hungary and eastern Slovakia to the extermination camps. My father and his family were on one of those trains.

Hitler has been dead for 66 years, but in the ongoing campaign against the Jewish state, Hitlerism thrives. "Its geographic center of gravity has moved to the Middle East," writes Robert Wistrich, the foremost modern scholar of antisemitism, "but the tone and content of the rhetoric, along with the manifest will to exterminate the Jews, are virtually identical to German Nazism. . . . Radical Islamists of every stripe openly proclaim at every opportunity that the eradication of Israel is a divine commandment, the will of God, and a necessary prologue to the liberation of mankind."

In the 20th century, an obsession with Jews fueled the Holocaust and plunged Europe into history's bloodiest war. Two generations later, Auschwitz is history. The derangement it embodied is anything but.

Remember that, and you remember holocaust day well.

free` The author wrote: "My father and his family were on one of those trains." --------------- Unfortunately for some of us, Yom Ha'shoah is everyday. (05/01/11)
