According to the AP, Milwaukee schoolteachers have dropped their lawsuit demanding that Joe and Jane Taxpayer again foot (ok, the actual body part is a bit further north) the bill for theirViagra needs, as they did until it was dropped some time ago.

I'd like to think they did so because the demand was a ridiculous overreach which proved just how great their sense of entitlement was.

But it's probably because their case was soft and, er, wouldn't stand up in court.

Could this be what the Wisconsin 14 are up to?

Read the following article from Newsradio 620 WTMJ (too short to excerpt) and decide for yourself:

MADISON - Tuesday brought the 18th day that Wisconsin Senate Democrats stayed out of the state to avoid a quorum in a vote for Governor Scott Walker's budget repair bill which would roll back many public workers unions' negotiating rights.

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, a Republican from Juneau, believes the delay is actually a plan by organizers attached to President Barack Obama to get Wisconsin Republican legislators recalled.

"There's many people that are beginning to believe this is a delay tactic by the Democrats in the Senate so that these recall elections can be organized by the Obama team out of Chicago, which they are, as we start to do the research on the people that have filed the petition," Fitzgerald told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News."

When asked whether Fitzgerald knew that for a fact, he responded, "The organizer against (River Hills Republican Senator) Alberta Darling definitely has direct links to the Obama camp.  There's no doubt about it.  These guys might be out until June.  Unfortunately, what they're trying to do is flip the majority, and I think that's becoming very evident."

He further stated that labor officials were "pulling the strings on this thing."

"There's nobody in that caucus that has the strength or the ability to walk into that chamber without the sign from labor," said Fitzgerald.

Newsradio 620 WTMJ has asked Senator Mark Miller's office for a response.

If this is true, what does it mean?

It means that Wisconsin Democrats are not happy with democracy - i.e. will of voters who made them the minority party last November.  So every state senator absconded from Wisconsin almost 3 weeks ago, because passing budgetary legislation requires at least 20 state senators and there are just 19 Republicans.  By doing so, Democrats are preventing the duly elected senate from debating and passing a budget.  In other words, they are subverting democracy, plain and simple.

Now the question is whether they intend to stay out until their union masters (who is better at organizing than unions) try to recall, and remove, enough elected Republicans to change the outcome of the November vote.

The people of Wisconsin are being screwed.  Not in private, not on the sly, but on the 50 yard line in front of a packed house.

I hope that, beyond Newsradio 620 WTMJ, in-state media have enough integrity to report about this (I've given up on the national media).  And I especially hope that enough Wisconsin citizens are smart enough to realize how their vote is being stolen from them, and make these anti-democracy toads pay.

This excerpt from a truly disturbing article by Ursula Lindsey at yahoo.com, is for the people who still cling to their gossamer fantasy that the fall of Hosni Mubarak would create anything even remotely resembling democracy as we know it.

This is what happened when women marched in Tahrir Square to celebrate International Woman's Day, and demand representation in the new government:

About a thousand women protested in Cairo's Tahrir Square Tuesday, battling hecklers from opposition to get fair representation in the new constitution. Ursula Lindsey on their courageous fight. Plus, secret Egypt security files exposed and more reports from Women in the World.

Protesters were attacked and driven out of the square, accused of being foreigners (quite a few foreign women and journalists were present), and had their flyers and posters torn up.

Egyptian women took to the streets in unprecedented numbers during the three weeks of protests that toppled President Hosni Mubarak. Many were exhilarated and inspired by the experience. But now, they say, theyre being denied a role in building the countrys future.

The all-male legal committee that was convened to amend the countrys constitution has drafted an amendment that prohibits a man with a foreign wife from running for president. The amendments wording makes it clear that a woman running for president isnt even envisaged.

Hassan El Zughby, a 48-year-old accountant, was horrified by the protesters demand that women be allowed to run for the presidency. All Egyptians will reject this completely, he said. Women have a role, and men have a role. Were used to men ruling. Who rules in my house? My father. And who rules in my family? I do.

Vast numbers of Egyptian women pursue university educations and play an active role in society. But many Egyptian women complain of constant sexual harassment on the streets of Egyptian cities.

Women remain woefully absent from positions of power, whether in government or business. Dania Gharaibeh, another womens rights activist, stood near El Zughby, rolling her eyes at his remarks. She held a poster that emphasized womens lack of political representation. It noted that there are no women on the legal committee re-writing the constitution; no women on the so-called Council of Elders, an informal advisory board of public figures; and only one woman in the new cabinet. Even among opposition groups, women rarely occupy leadership positions.

Many of the protesters male critics invoked religion saying Islam itself decrees that men and women are different, and that men should be responsible for, and rule over, women. At one point, a crowd of male counterprotesters circled a women in a niqab (the full, black veil that covers everything but a womans eyes and is worn by Islamic fundamentalists here) chanting,  This is an Egyptian woman!

But toward the end of the afternoon, that debate degenerated into violence.

Suddenly we heard people raising their voices and women screaming. I didnt see exactly what happened because we had to run, says Engy Ghozlan, another young activist.

One woman was attacked, says journalist Pakinam Amer. And after that we heard gunfire shots. People started targeting women. They were being very hostile, very aggressive. They were systematically trying to get us out of Tahrir.

Does that look like your idea of democracy?  Your idea of tolerance?  Your idea of acceptance?  I know it doesn't look like mine.

So we are left to hope against hope that the new government won't be worse than the last one.  As you can see, there are no guarantees at all.

Even a bad government can be better than the alternative.  That sobering thought should be kept in mind as Egypt lurches toward its "democracy".

Candidate Barack Obama promised, in most direct terms, to close Guantanamo, and do so within a year of becoming President

Well, Mr. Obama became President.  So what happened?

It is well over two years later.  And not only is Guantanamo still operating, but  - as excerpted from an article by Peter Finn and Anne E. Kornblut in today's Washington Post:

President Obama signed an executive order Monday that will create a formal system of indefinite detention for those held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who continue to pose a significant threat to national security. The administration also said it will start new military commission trials for detainees there.

The announcements, coming more than two years after Obama vowed in another executive order to close the detention center, all but cements Guantanamo Bay's continuing role in U.S. counterterrorism policy.

Do I blame Mr. Obama for keeping Guantanamo operational as a repository for terrorists?  No I do not.  It is exactly what he should be doing.

But shouldn't he also be admitting he was wrong about Guantanamo when he campaigned in 2008?  And shouldn't he be apologizing to former President Bush who Mr. Obama admits, by his own actions, had it right in the first place?

I hope Mr. Bush isn't sitting by the phone waiting for that apology, though.  Because I have a feeling the wait is going to be a very, very long one.....

WisOldMan What a remarkable flip-flop, on the issue central to the talk from the left about Bush-Cheney "war crimes". Takes your breathe away. (03/08/11)

As regular readers know, three weeks ago I contacted (or at any rate tried to contact) Nancy Dubuc, President of Lifetime Network, regarding the impropriety (to say the least) of hiring the lunatic-left, hate-filled, anti-Semitic roseanne barr to star in a Hawaii based reality show.

I laid out chapter and verse of the things barr has said and done -- but I never got a response from Ms. Dubuc.

So I decided to escalate.  I just joined zimbio.com, where you can write articles directed at various individuals, and posted the following on both Ms. Dubuc's and barr's page:

On February 15th I emailed Lifetime Networks President Nancy Dubuc, about the fact that roseanne barr has been hired by the network to do a Hawaii-based reality show.  This is what I said at that time:

My name is Ken Berwitz.  I write a political blog (www.hopelesslypartisan.com).

I would like to know why roseanne barr has been given a show on Lifetime, in view of her rich history of making hateful comments about groups of people and individuals - with a special hatred reserved for Jews (please read my blog (http://www.hopelesslypartisan.com/item_9529.htm) and see for yourself).

Thanks in advance for your response - which I will post for my readers if/when it is received.

Here is the blog I linked Ms. Dubuc to:

If you are a media personality who hates, make sure you hate from the left.  That way, it won't cost you a cent.

Want proof?

First let's note that Lifetime Networks just gave roseanne barr her own show, via these excerpts from the insidetv.ew.com web site:

The Barr is back: Roseanne Barr is returning to TV in a new Lifetime docu-series as she sets out to believe it or not run a macadamia nut farm in Hawaii.

The program will follow Barr as she runs a 40-acre nut farm on Hawaiis Big Island along with her writer-musician boyfriend Johnny Argent and her son, Jake.

Roseanne Barr is an undeniable force of nature and the idea of following her in this unique premise excited us from the get-go, said Nancy Dubuc, Lifetime president and GM. Roseanne is funny and brutally-honest, and our audience will relate to her decision to go on this adventure and create an entirely new life for herself. We are thrilled she will make her long-awaited return to television on Lifetime.

Isn't it wonderful that Lifetime's President/GM, Nancy Dubuc, gushes about how funny and honest barr is and how thrilled Lifetime is to get her.

Well, Nancy, here are just a few of the many, many roseanne barr quotes that might give you a different perspective on how "funny" barr really is:

-November, 2008, speaking about Black voters in California, who voted overwhelmingly for Proposition 8:   "They showed themselves every inch as bigoted and ignorant as their white christian right wing counterpartners who voted for mccain-palin and bush-cheney"

-January, 2011, speaking about Sarah Palin:  I hate Sarah Palin, Id slap her

-May, 2007, speaking about Israel:  I hate Israel too much to host The View

-February 11th, on her blog (which also viciously attacks Jews):  The Ruling Classes are less than one percent of the world's population, yet through their control of trade routes upon the Open Seas, the ungodly pirates that they are, control 99% of the world's resources, and move them through the world by water. They kill dispassionately and by stealing the wealth of entire communities and classes. After being arrested and tried by a Judicial system NOT heavily weighted in their favor (as now), they shall face a fate more horrifying than death (to them). These greedy moral derelicts will be forced to actually pay back the money they stole, every single plundered dime!!

Without Bullshit, the Twin Towers of Patriarchy, Warmongering-Piracy and Woman Hating-Pedophilia will collapse under their own weight.

And then we have this proud moment from last year, when the Jewish-born barr displayed her humorous side by having herself made up to look like adolf hitler, and baking what she called "burnt Jew cookies":

Roseanne Barr as Adolf Hilter holding burnt Jew cookies in Heeb

Uh Nancy?  Still think roseanne barr is "funny"?  Still "thrilled" to get her?

I'd love a statement about this from Ms. Dubuc and/or the other executives at Lifetime.  Wouldn't you?

Well, today is March 8, and I'm still waiting for a reply.

In fairness, it is possible that Ms. Dubuc never got my email.  I couldn't find her specific email address at the Lifetime web site, so I used the generic "feedback" option and addressed it to her.

But I'd find it hard to believe she won't see what I have written here;  even if she doesn't personally read zimbio.com, someone she knows almost certainly does.

Let's see if I can finally get a response from her.

I'll let you know what, if anything, happens...........

Warner Bros finally had their fill.  Enough of a fill to remove the star of a hugely profitable hit sitcom, "Two and A Half Men"

Well, now there are one and a half.  charlie sheen has been fired from the show.

And his reaction?  To go on another disjointed, lunatic-quality rant - which has quickly become his trademark, and the key reason anyone pays attention to him.

In sheen's twisted mind, this is "winning".  But is it?

Tell you what:  if sheen starts ranting in the nude, he'll have even more facebook fans and twitter followers.  And if he brings one or both of his porn "goddesses" on the video to perform sex acts while he rants, he'll get even more.

That is not "winning", it is being so nutty and/or so bizarre, and/or so pornographic that people feel compelled to take a look.  A little like watching a train wreck in progress -- actually, now that I think of it, watching charlie sheen these days is a lot like watching a train wreck in progress.

If you want to read a pretty good article about the firing, and hear charlie sheen's reaction to it, click here.

If, however, your preference is to pay attention to things that are meaningful in our lives, know that unless he does something very significant in the future, this is probably the last blog I will write about charlie sheen.

Good riddance.

Ken Berwitz For anyone interested in knowing what zeke's post means, at 8:22 I accidentally posted the title of this blog, with no text (it has since been deleted). And, for the record, zeke is 100% correct. (03/08/11)

Here is an excerpt from Alana Goodman's article at cnsnews.com.  It doesn't require a lot of analysis to understand what Ms. Goodman is saying.  But I do strongly urge you to watch the accompanying video, so you know for sure that the story is 100% accurate:

NPR Senior VP: Zionists Dont Control NPR Like They Control the Newspapers

Alana Goodman 03.08.2011 - 10:57 AM

As if NPR needed any more problems: the news organizations senior VP for development, Ron Schiller, was allegedly caught on film making some very unflattering remarks about Tea Partiers, Republicans, and Zionists, the Daily Caller reported this morning:

A man who appears to be a National Public Radio senior executive, Ron Schiller, has been captured on camera savaging conservatives and the Tea Party movement.

In a new video released Tuesday morning by conservative filmmaker James OKeefe, Schiller and Betsy Liley, NPRs director of institutional giving, are seen meeting with two men who, unbeknownst to the NPR executives, are posing as members of a Muslim Brotherhood front group. The men, who identified themselves as Ibrahim Kasaam and Amir Malik from the fictitious Muslim Education Action Center (MEAC) Trust, met with Schiller and Liley at Caf Milano, a well-known Georgetown restaurant, and explained their desire to give up to $5 million to NPR because, the Zionist coverage is quite substantial elsewhere.

The whole video can be watched here. Schiller spoke at length about the Tea Partys ignorance, intolerance, whiteness, gun-totingness, and so on. His comments about Republicans and the firing of Juan Williams are sure to offend as well.

If you are a listener to, and/or supporter of, NPR - Jewish or non-Jewish -  I would hope this has a major impact on your future NPR-related activities.

As the world watches and waits, the Libyan slaughter continues.  Unabated.

Excerpted from an article in today's London Daily Guardian:

The regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has launched a devastating assault on the opposition-held town of Zawiyah, deploying up to 50 tanks and scores of pickup trucks carrying troops.

Emerging accounts told of massive damage inflicted on the refinery town, which rose up against the Gaddafi regime two weeks ago.

Earlier, the rebels said they had rejected an offer from the Libyan leader to negotiate his surrender of power. The government called such reports "absolute nonsense".

If it is confirmed, the defeat of opposition forces in Zawiyah, just 30 miles from Tripoli already claimed twice by the regime in recent days would mark a significant psychological moment for Gaddafi.

Residents described a hail of bullets, with women and children being killed and families trapped within their homes.

The violence of this assault marks a disturbing escalation in the developing civil war in Libya, suggesting that the regime has now decided to pursue a no-holds barred strategy to crush the rebellion, despite the growing threats of international action.

Witnesses in Zawiyah said many buildings, including mosques, had been destroyed and rebel forces had used loudhailers to call on residents to help defend positions in the town centre.

A Libyan man who lives in exile abroad said he managed to get through by phone to a friend in the city.

"My friend said it's miserable and that Gaddafi forces are trying to destroy the city. Many buildings are completely destroyed, including hospitals, electricity lines and generators," he said.

"People cannot run away, it's cordoned off. They cannot flee. All those who can fight are fighting, including teenagers. Children and women are being hidden."

Can someone explain to me what the so-called "civilized world" is waiting for?

Can someone explain to me what the UN is waiting for?  Maybe the same thing they waited for in Rwanda.  And Sudan.  And Serbia.

And can someone explain to me what the United States is doing?  Are we at least pressuring the UN to act - even though no one with any knowledge of the organization's history would expect it move them off the dime?

And can someone estimate to me how many thousands, or tens of thousands, of innocent lives will be lost before there is an action against the butcher qaddafi?

What kind of a world is this, that sits by as spectators while helpless men, women and children are slaughtered?

free` Ken, this is what kind of world this is ------------- While the Arab world burns... the UN holds a conference on Israel - israelmatzav.blogspot.com/2011/03/while-arab-world-burns-un-holds.html --------------- “While hundreds of millions of people throughout the Middle East are standing up to brutal regimes and demanding basic human rights, these NGOs and the corrupt UN system continue collaboration in the obsessive and disproportionate assault on Israel,” says Prof. Gerald Steinberg (03/08/11)
