Ken Berwitz

What a silly question that is.  We all know that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, not Connecticut.  Right?

Then how come his social security number is from the numerical sequence reserved specifically for Connecticut?

First, by way of explanation, here is an excerpt from Alexander Burns' blog at

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs confronted WorldNetDaily correspondent Lester Kinsolving in the White House briefing Thursday, challenging the reporter to say whether he believed President Obama is a U.S. citizen after questioning the authenticity of Obama's Social Security number.

In the last question of the day, Kinsolving asked Gibbs "why the president is using a Social Security Number reserved for Connecticut applicants" alluding to a popular conspiracy theory among some who question the president's citizenship.

Gibbs began to reply, saying he was "amazed" by the question, before interrupting himself to ask directly: "Do you think the president was born here, Lester? Do you think the president was born in the United States?"

"I don't know," the conservative correspondent answered, adding he wants to see Obama's birth certificate.

"I've seen the real birth certificate. I put it on the Internet," Gibbs shot back. "And I appreciate your forthrightness on the birth answer."

Interesting.  But does Mr. Kinsolving have any basis for claiming Mr. Obama's social security number comes from a state he never lived in?  Well, here is an excerpt from the World Net Daily article which delves into this claim.  You decide:

NEW YORK Two private investigators working independently are asking why President Obama is using a Social Security number set aside for applicants in Connecticut while there is no record he ever had a mailing address in the state.

In addition, the records indicate the number was issued between 1977 and 1979, yet Obama's earliest employment reportedly was in 1975 at a Baskin-Robbins ice-cream shop in Oahu, Hawaii.

WND has copies of affidavits filed separately in a presidential eligibility lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia by Ohio licensed private investigator Susan Daniels and Colorado private investigator John N. Sampson.

The investigators believe Obama needs to explain why he is using a Social Security number reserved for Connecticut applicants that was issued at a date later than he is known to have held employment.

The Social Security website confirms the first three numbers in his ID are reserved for applicants with Connecticut addresses, 040-049.

"Since 1973, Social Security numbers have been issued by our central office," the Social Security website explains. "The first three (3) digits of a person's social security number are determined by the ZIP code of the mailing address shown on the application for a social security number."

The question is being raised amid speculation about the president's history fueled by an extraordinary lack of public documentation. Along with his original birth certificate, Obama also has not released educational records, scholarly articles, passport documents, medical records, papers from his service in the Illinois state Senate, Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records and adoption papers.

Let's summarize:  If this is true, Mr. Obama is using a social security number that there is no plausible way he can have, and - along with the long-form birth certificate so much has been made of - is withholding just about every document which would give us insight into his actual background, thus who he actually is.

If we were talking about George Bush's background, do you think our wonderful "neutral" media would have unconditionally buried this story?  Do you think the White House press corps would have allowed his press secretary to get away with giving a non-answer to the question, which is what Gibbs did?

Remember, this is a media which spent years scouring records to try and prove Mr. Bush missed a few national guard meetings in the early 1970's.  It is also a media which, more recently, descended on Wasilla, Alaska to dig up every conceivable bit of dirt they could on Sarah Palin.  Why is it so completely uninterested in Mr. Obama's background, or why he is keeping it from them.

During the presidential campaign I blogged that Mr. Obama had to show us documentation that he was legally able to be President.  I pointed out there would be a political cataclysm if we found out Mr. Obama was ineligible after he became President and started signing legislation.

Now we find out that his social security number may well have been plucked out of the air.  Why?  What reason could there be?  And, if this is true, what was his real social security number and why is it being suppressed?

A media uninterested in answers to these questions is a media not doing its job.

free` It is even worse than that Ken, if you question why obama would spend millions of dollars keeping his BC private when for $10 he could get it and then show it, they call you a birther and wont even bother to answer if that makes any sense to them. (06/11/10)

Would you want to be judged by an organization that hates you?

From William Kristol of the Weekly Standard:

THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned that senior Obama administration officials have been telling foreign governments that the administration intends to support an effort next week at the United Nations to set up an independent commission, under UN auspices, to investigate Israel's behavior in the Gaza flotilla incident. The White House has apparently shrugged off concerns from elsewhere in the U.S. government that a) this is an extraordinary singling out of Israel, since all kinds of much worse incidents happen around the world without spurring UN investigations; b) that the investigation will be one-sided, focusing entirely on Israeli behavior and not on Turkey or on Hamas; and c) that this sets a terrible precedent for outside investigations of incidents involving U.S. troops or intelligence operatives as we conduct our own war on terror.

While UN Ambassador Susan Rice is reported to have played an important role in pushing for U.S. support of a UN investigation, the decision is, one official stressed, of course the president's. The government of Israel has been consulting with the U.S. government on its own Israeli investigative panel, to be led by a retired supreme court justice, that would include respected international participants, including one from the U.S. But the Obama administration is reportedly saying that such a kosher panel is not good enough to satisfy the international community, or the Obama White House.

How much of a kangaroo court can Israel expect at the UN?  Read this excerpt from a report by several years ago (it has gotten even worse since):

This year, during the 61th Session of the General Assembly (2006-2007), the time spent by ambassadors on enacting the 22nd anti-Israel resolution of the year was time not spent on passing a single resolution on Sudan's genocide in Darfur. Diplomats at foreign ministries or UN missions have a limited amount of time to devote to any particular UN session. Because every proposed UN resolution is subjected to intensive review by various levels and branches of government, a direct result of the anti-Israel texts is a crippling of the UN's ability to tackle the world's ills.

UN bias against Israel is overt in bodies such as the General Assembly, which each year passes some nineteen resolutions against Israel and none against most other member states, including the world's most repressive regimes. The World Health Organization, meeting at its annual assembly in Geneva in 2005, passed but one resolution against a specific country: Israel was charged with violating Palestinian rights to health. Similarly, the International Labour Organization, at its annual 2005 conference in Geneva, carried only one major country-specific report on its annual agenda -- a lengthy document charging Israel with violating the rights of Palestinian workers.

According to the exit polls, 78% of US Jews voted for Barack Obama in 2008.  Presumably, most of them support Israel.

I hope they're happy with what they got.  Speaking as one of the other 22%, I can assure you I am not.

This is for the folks who have bought into the Obama administration's starry-eyed assessment of our economy.

From Reuters:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sales at retailers unexpectedly fell in May for the first time since September following a record slump in purchases of building materials, adding to fears the economic recovery was losing some steam.

The Commerce Department said total retail sales dropped 1.2 percent, the largest decline since September, after rising by an upwardly revised 0.6 percent in April. Sales in April were previously reported to have increased 0.4 percent.

Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast retail sales rising 0.2 percent last month.

What did we get for the almost one trillion dollars in "stimulus" money congress allotted for this administration?  A 20 - 25% jump in unemployment, and now this.

You can draw your own conclusions.  Preferably on election day.

Here is Mike Huckabee's opinion of President Obama's performance during the oil rig disaster.  It is too short to excerpt, so you get the whole thing.  See what you think of it:

President Obama's Mishandling Of The Gulf Oil Spill

by Mike Huckabee

In politics, 2 things matter - perception and effective policy. President Obama has failed in both.

The Administration claimed to be "on top of this since day one," but the reality is that the President didn't personally address the issue for many days until the public outcry was too loud to ignore.

While the President has had plenty of time in the last 50 days to play golf, host glitzy celebrity events at the White House and go on vacation - he's only managed a few self-serving photo-op stops in the Gulf.

The President blasts the BP CEO, but hasn't even spoken to him - he delivers blustery comments about "kicking someone's a**" - while trying to cover his own his own rear.

He has rebuffed efforts and ideas by the local governors and by private sector entities. Instead, the President's unwillingness to lead or get out of the way has cost us dearly.

In times of crisis, leaders lead and politicians make speeches. President Obama has made a lot of speeches.

I bold-printed that last line because I think it encapsulates President Obama's performance very well.

Even some people who thought that President Bush completely botched the hurricane Katrina disaster (I'm not one of them) are comparing Bush's performance favorably to Obama's.

They're right.

We know a lot about New York Governor David Paterson.

We know that he became Governor because Eliot Spitzer resigned in disgrace.  We know that his "vetting" appeared to end at the fact that he was the son of powerful, savvy New York politician Basil Paterson.  We know he is a serial philanderer.  We know he has no problem using his campaign funds for personal expenses.

And now we know that he is willing to play chicken with the state legislature, in a way that could literally shut New York down.

From Marcia Kramer, of CBS News:

Jun 11, 2010 6:07 am US/Eastern

Chaos, Anarchy To Reign If Paterson Shuts Down NY

Monday Could Be Doomsday If Budget Deal Can't Be Reached

Shutdown Would Mean Closing Of State Parks, DMV, Courts, N.Y. Lottery

Marcia Kramer

Chaos and anarchy. That's what New York Gov. David Paterson is warning if he's forced to shut down the government in a few days.

The clowns in the state Legislature, now deadlocked for 71 days on the budget, are ready to take down the "big tent" and bring state government to a standstill. At least that's what Paterson thinks.

"No one knows the full ramifications of a government shutdown," said Paterson. "It would create unimaginable chaos around the state and the greater metropolitan areas."

Such chaos includes closing all state parks, motor vehicles offices, courts, and even the lottery. Public assistance payments would not be made and unemployment payments might also be held up.

The governor is in this pickle, in part, because wild cards like Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. (D-Bronx) and possibly scandal-scarred Sen. Pedro Espada (D-Bronx) might not go along.

Sources said the next emergency bill from Paterson will have up to $350 million in cuts to human services and mental health. But Republicans, who could become Paterson's new allies in the budget battle, aren't satisfied with that.

They want $750 million in new cuts like:

-Delaying the 10 percent welfare grant increases

-Withholding welfare from those who don't comply with employment requirements

      - Reducing the personal needs allowance of people in drug and alcohol programs

Diaz will not go along with that.

"I am not voting for any more cuts. I understand that it is painful," said Diaz. "But the governor is leaving me no choice."

The other renegade, Espada, thinks there might be a budget deal in the offing, but, he said, "I would vote no if such a massive cut were included because the state needs a fiscal plan.

Paterson called both men "thugs."

Espada, like some in both houses of the Legislature, thinks lawmakers will find a way to avoid bringing the government to a grinding halt.

"There will not be a shutdown on Monday. We've never wanted a shutdown," he said.

It's really too early to tell what is going to happen. Will Espada and Diaz back down? Will Paterson make a deal with the Republicans? Or will pigs fly?

Let me say that I do not know which side (if either) is right in this brawl.  I do know that they are up against an impossibly bloated New York state budget that Paterson, to his credit, seems willing to tackle - at least in part.  I also know that the state legislature, with all pious posturing emanating from it, created and passed the budgets that brought New York to this ugly point in time.

So we have a weak, corrupt Governor in a head-to-head battle with a ridiculously profligate state legislature over how to spend money that isn't there.

With apologies to Adolph Green and Betty Comden:

New York, New York, in a helluva state.

The money's gone and the budget is late.

A bunch of losers deciding its fate.

New York New York....etc.

My sister just sent me a description of six affairs.

A couple I have seen before.  A couple I have seen for the first time.  And most I laughed at.  Maybe you will too:

The 1st Affair

A married man was having an affair with his secretary. One day they went to her place
and made love all afternoon. Exhausted, they fell asleep
and woke up at 8 PM.

The man hurriedly dressed and told his lover to take his shoes outside and rub them in the grass and dirt. He put on his shoes and drove home.

'Where have you been?' his wife demanded. 'I can't lie to you,' he replied, 'I'm having an affair with my secretary. We had sex all afternoon.'

She looked down at his shoes and said: 'You lying bastard!
You've been playing golf!'

The 2nd Affair

A middle-aged couple had two beautiful daughters but always talked about having a son. The

They decided to try one last time for the son they always wanted. The wife got pregnant
and delivered a healthy baby boy.

The joyful father rushed to the nursery to see his new son.

He was horrified at the ugliest child he had ever seen.

He told his wife: 'There's no way I can be the father of this baby. Look at the two beautiful daughters I fathered! Have you been fooling around behind my back?'

The wife smiled sweetly and replied: 'No, not this time!'

The 3rd Affair

A mortician was working late one night. He examined the body of Mr. Schwartz,
about to be cremated, and made a startling discovery. Schwartz had the largest private part
he had ever seen!

'I'm sorry Mr. Schwartz,' the mortician commented, 'I can't allow you to be cremated
with such an impressive private part. It must be saved for posterity.'

So, he removed it, stuffed it into his briefcase, and took it home.

'I have something to show you won't believe,' he said to his wife,
opening his briefcase.

'My God!' the wife exclaimed, 'Schwartz is dead!'

The 4th Affair

A woman was in bed with her lover when she heard her husband opening the front door.

'Hurry,' she said, 'stand in the corner.'

She rubbed baby oil all over him, then dusted him with talcum powder.

'Don't move until I tell you,' she said. 'Pretend you're a statue.'

'What's this?' the husband inquired as he entered the room.

'Oh it's a statue,' she replied. 'The Smiths bought one and I liked it
so I got one for us, too.'

No more was said, not even when they went to bed.

Around 2 AM the husband got up, went to the kitchen and returned
with a sandwich and a beer.

'Here,' he said to the statue, 'have this. I stood like that for two days at the Smiths
and nobody offered me a damned thing.'

The 5th Affair

A man walked into a cafe, went to the bar and ordered a beer. 'Certainly, Sir, that'll be one cent.'

'One Cent?' the man exclaimed.

He glanced at the menu and asked: 'How much for a nice juicy steak
and a bottle of wine?'

'A nickel,' the barman replied.

'A nickel?' exclaimed the man. 'Where's the guy who owns this place?'

The bartender replied: 'Upstairs, with my wife.'

The man asked: 'What's he doing upstairs with your wife?'

The bartender replied: 'The same thing I'm doing
to his business down here.'

The 6th Affair

Jake was dying. His wife sat at the bedside. He looked up and said weakly: 'I have something I must confess.'

'There's no need to, 'his wife replied.

'No,' he insisted, 'I want to die in peace. I slept with your sister, your best friend, her best friend, and your mother!'

'I know,' she replied.

'Now just rest and let the poison work.'
