DARWIN AWARD FINALIST

Ken Berwitz

Here is this week's entry for the Darwin Awards.  It comes to us from (the appropriately named) Stan Finger, writing for the Wichita Eagle:

Couple robbed while inside dumpster

BY STAN FINGER

The Wichita Eagle

WICHITA A man and woman decided to give the phrase "dumpster diving" a new twist over the weekend, crawling inside one on North Waco so they could be alone.

But while they were engaged in what Wichita police described as "an intimate moment," they were robbed by a man armed with a pocket knife.

It all unfolded shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of North Waco, police said, when the man and woman, both 44, crawled into a dumpster for privacy.

A short time later, a 59-year-old man and his 64-year-old companion interrupted the couple inside the dumpster.

With the older man encouraging him, the 59-year-old man pulled out a pocket knife and took shoes, jewelry and the 44-year-old man's wallet.

Police were notified, and officers found the two suspects a short time later. The stolen property was recovered.

Are these people trash, or what?

What did they use for protection?  A Hefty bag?

This adds a new dimension to the term "Down in the dumps".  Or is that a new dementia.

Enough.  The next bad joke is yours.

THE RACIST GAMBIT (CONT.)

Ken Berwitz

Toby Harndon, of London's Daily Telegraph, has a very good column on the racist gambit (i.e. the attempt to deflect all criticism of Barack Obama by calling it racist).  I don't agree with everything Mr. Harndon says, but I agree with most of it.  See what you think:

Not all criticism of Barack Obama is racist

By Toby Harnden World Last updated: September 14th, 2009

To call someone a racist can be a cheap way to shut down all debate. As Andrew Breitbart correctly noted on Bill Mahers show, calling a person a racist is the worst thing you can call a person in this country. Strangely, however, it is a charge that is often flung around without any evidence whatsoever. Check out how Wilson is branded a racist pig here.

Take the case of Congressman Joe Wilson, whose intemperate You lie! outburst is still prompting much angst on the Left and adoration on the Right. He was clearly wrong to shout what he did. Theres a case for saying that he had a point on the substance, as I blogged here, but thats irrelevant he was disrespectful of the office of the President and breached congressional rules of decorum. He should have apologised, he did and the apology was accepted.

That should have been the end of the story. But no, there seems to be an eager determination to paint Wilson as racist. Its possible that he is. Who knows? I have never met him and I cant get inside his head. But I have no evidence that he is.

For some, however, the fact that he is white, a Republican and from South Carolina seems to be enough. There seems to be precious little else that NYT columnist Maureen Dowd cites in this piece.

Ive always thought that Dowd is an acerbic wit and a great writer. But after a healthy degree of scepticism during the campaign shes now nailed her colours to the mast as an Obamamaniac. Check out this IrishCentral.com interview with Dowd by Niall ODowd in which she described Obama as doing really well and is elegant, intelligent, well-spoken. She contrasts him with George W. Bush thus: From the lawless and heedless to the law-abiding and mindful.

On this issue, it seems that Dowds personal politics have clouded her judgement.

On NPR over the weekend, there was a hand-wringing debate after a Wilson supporter praised him for calling a spade a spade. Some listeners were outraged, saying this was racial code language. The quote was played and it didnt sound to me like it was. Its a very old idiom. Could it sometimes be used in a racist way? Certainly. But fairness dictates that one should be sure before making the accusation that it is.

And when you have to look as hard for racism as Bill Maher does here then perhaps youre searching for something that isnt there.

As Politicos Jonathan Martin reports, this notion that racism is behind criticism of Obama seems to be taking hold among Democrats.

Wisely, the White House is not going there Robert Gibbs had the chance yesterday but did not. I am sure this is partly a political calculation if you start crying racist every time Obama is criticised then he will be in danger of being marginalised as the Black President. He no more wants to be that than he wanted to be the Black Candidate.

But theres also a moral element racism is an extraordinarily serious charge to make and it should never be done casually. And if its flung around without evidence then that makes it all the more easy for people to dismiss the charge of racism on the occasions when it is justified.

Do I think some criticism is Obama is racially motivated? Yes. And when there is evidence for that it should be cited and the individual exposed. Are there some politicians in the South who find it very hard to accept that a black man is President? I am sure there are, as jokes like this indicate. But that doesnt mean that all white GOP politicians in the South are racists.

Calling critics of Obama racist is this way can all too easily be a way of trying to make all criticism of Obama a kind of hate speech. Thats no way of conducting a free and open debate.

Since this column was written, no less a light than jimmy carter - a failed President who has dedicated his life to the destruction of Israel - also chimed in, as you can see from this excerpt of his interview with NBC's Brian Williams:

"I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man," Carter said in an sit-down with NBC's Brian Williams.

Carter specifically said that Wilson's comment was "dastardly" and part of an "inherent feeling" held by many Americans -- particularly Southerners -- that African-Americans "are not qualified to lead this great country.

NBC's Today show also had on the serial racism-invoker michael eric dyson to second the motion by assuring us that White people who criticize Mr. Obama are racists.  Fascinatingly, in dyson's diatribe he indicted "White America".  All of it.

That's not racist?  That isn't a stereotype?  That is acceptable?  The racist calls all White people racists and we're supposed to buy it.

Did Matt Lauer call dyson out on his vile stereotype?  Of course not.

Let me illustrate the idiocy of this "logic" by using myself as an example.  After the presidential election, I wrote that, despite my very negative feelings about Barack Obama, I was very happy that a Black man won the presidency, because of what it showed about the USA, and that it could not have happened in many other countries.  My exact words:

I may not like Barack Obama and I may not trust him or his political views.  But I very much like the fact that he, as a Black man, was able to win a national election.

How many countries in the world could a parallel situation have occurred in?  Not many.

So let's see:  I don't like Barack Obama but I'm thrilled that we elected a Black man.  Using the "logic" of these geniuses, that makes me a racist.

Simply stated, the claim is BS.  Utter BS.  It stinks.  But it is the card that is relentlessly being played.

And the fact that the White House isn't doing so - yet - doesn't impress me.  I don't know whether it is because they don't believe it, or because they don't have to since their proxies are.  Point of order:  have you heard Robert Gibbs specifically disclaim the premise that criticizing President Obama is tantamount to racism?  I know I haven't.

Will the racist gambit work?  Only if we let it.

======================================================================

UPDATE:  It finally happened.  NBC is reporting that Robert Gibbs said that "Obama the nation's first black president doesn't think that criticism of his policies is 'based on the color of his skin.' "

I'd love to think Gibbs made this statement because of what I wrote here.  But somehow I doubt it......

OUR SHAMELESSLY BIASED MEDIA

Ken Berwitz

There isn't even a pretense anymore.

Read this excerpt from a piece by Mike Calderone and Mike Allen (themselves guilty of bias, as I will show you) at www.politico.com:

Divide between right, mainstream media

By MICHAEL CALDERONE & MIKE ALLEN | 9/15/09 4:29 PM EDT

Updated: 9/16/09 6:54 AM EDT

The right-wing medias single-minded focus on a handful of targets over the past months and its success in pushing those stories into the mainstream have underscored the sharp divide between traditional news organizations and the bloggers and talk show hosts aggressively pursuing an ideological agenda on-line and on TV and radio.

From birthers to tea parties to town halls and ACORN, the scandal-plagued anti-poverty group not to mention President Obamas speech last week to school children and the background of former White House aide Van Jones issues initially dismissed or missed entirely by the national media have burst, if only fleetingly, onto the national agenda after relentless coverage on Fox News, talk radio and in the blogosphere.

If it wasnt for Fox or talk radio, wed be done as a republic, Glenn Beck declared Tuesday morning on Fox & Friends. Beck, whos aggressively pushed the Van Jones and ACORN stories, told the morning show hosts that he plans to devote his hour-long, top-rated 5 p.m. show  to new undercover tapes of ACORN employees.

Last week, Big Government, a site run by conservative Andrew Breitbart, showed videos of undercover stings in three ACORN offices, where journalists posing as pimps and prostitutes were instructed by employees on how to skirt legal restrictions on housing. The tapes got big play on The Drudge Reportwhere Breitbart has workedand right-leaning news outlets and commentary shows. But only after the Senate voted to cut off federal funding to ACORN on Monday did the story get more attention in the mainstream media.

ABC "World News" anchor Charles Gibson seemed caught off guard by the ACORN tapes on Tuesday when he told Chicago radio hosts Don Wade and Roma that he hadn't heard of them, in a clip flagged by prominent conservative blogger Michelle Malkin. Gibson added that "maybe this is just one you leave to the cables."

Jon Banner, executive producer of ABCs World News, told POLITICO that hes been discussing doing an ACORN piece with chief White House correspondent Jake Tapper over the past week, but the show hasnt run one on the latest scandal. World News, he said, is expected to report on ACORN tonight.

Its a very different editorial process when you have 24 hours to fill as opposed to 22 minutes, Banner said, explaining why ACORN hasnt yet fit in the evening newscast. Lately, Banner noted that the program has been focused on covering Afghanistan, health care, the economy and the anniversary of 9/11.

While Banner admits that some stories may get more attention on cable, blogs or talk radio, it doesnt mean theyre suited for the World News audience. Theres a tremendous amount of for lack of a better word noise out there. Were not in the business of noise.

Indeed, World News has to distill the news of the world, in under a half hour, and cant be expected to cover every budding controversy in the blogosphere. Nevertheless, Beck, and others, claimed that competing networks slowness in jumping on the ACORN or Van Jones stories indicates some sort of bias.

That first paragraph tells you all you need to know about Calderone and Allen.  It isn't that mainstream media are avoiding coverage of major stories, it is that those dreaded RIGHT WINGERS are pushing these trifling matters so hard that mainstream media are forced to look at them for a day or two before ignoring them again.

Oh, the humanity!

Let's take these sweet little nothings one by one:

-"birthers":  The same media that spent untold hours of research, over 8 years, trying to prove that President Bush may have missed a few national guard meetings in the early 1970's, refuses to cover the fact that President Obama has spent a million bucks fighting the release of his birth certificate.  Some even claim that the "certification of live birth" he has trotted out is his real birth certificate, either because they are ignorant or lying to your face..  If it were Republican President Barack Obama, would the media be a tad more interested in why he fights to hard to keep this information from us, when a five minute telephone call to Hawaii's bureau of records and a processing fee of probably less than $20 would end the speculation right there?

-"tea parties":  They were held all over the country, culminating in a major march on Washington DC that had anywhere from 70,000 to hundreds of thousands of participants.  By comparison, Cindy Sheehan, at the height of her notoriety, almost never had more than a couple of hundred people with her on the side of the road in Crawford, Texas - most days she barely had a dozen or two.  But it was Republican President George Bush she was going after, so Sheehan was front page news every day.

-"town halls":  People - most of them coming from their homes as individual citizens, not sent by the union or a soros-backed organization,  protesting across the country, and media resent having to cover it?  They think it's a right wing plot?  That's too bad.

-"ACORN" - which even calderone and allen admit is "scandal-plagued", and which has gotten tens and tens of millions of taxpayer dollars, with the possibility of literally billions more from the so-called "stimulus package" - is caught aiding and abetting illegal activity, including the prostitution of underage illegals from central American.  And that's not a news story, just some right wing flight of fancy?  If ACORN were procuring Republican votes intead of Democratic votes, would they be so quick to bury it?

-"The speech...to schoolchildren":  This speech was supplemented by Department of Education recommendations for teachers to follow which elevated President Obama to unique status among all Presidents (he was the only one even mentioned by name to study or discuss).  If that were Republican President Obama, would they have reported it?

-"van jones":  One of 32 unvetted "czars" appointed by President Obama who run major parts of government and answer to no one but him - and unbelievably unfit for the job he was handed.  If Republican President George Bush had ever tried to create a stealth government-within-a-government like this, with "czars" like van jones, would he not have been mercilessly attacked by the press?

Don't you find it interesting - and sickening - that all Calderone and Allen can glean from this is that the right wing is making some political points?  Don't you find it interesting - and sickening - that there is no understanding that if "the right" is covering these stories more it is due 100% to their NOT being covered by the mainstream media?

Wouldn't you think this would trouble Calderone and Allen a bit?  Maybe a lot?

Well, now you know better.

And it is for this reason that they are as shamelessly biased as the mainstream media their piece gives a free pass to.

====================================================================

One other thing:  Calderone and Allen say this about Fox News:

While liberals may dismiss Fox, the network clearly dominates cable news -- often beating both MSNBC and CNN combined in prime-time.

No guys, Fox doesn't "often" beat MSNBC and CNN combined in prime time.  Except for very rare occasions it ALWAYS beats MSNBC and CNN combined in prime time.  In fact, on average it comes close to doubling MSNBC and CNN combined in prime time.

Since you didn't bother to do the minute or two of research that would have given you this information, I did it for you.  Here are the latest data from www.mediabistro.com.  Read them and see the real story:

Does it occur to you fellas that the reason Fox predominates is not just because it is covering these stories and the other guys aren't.  It is because a lot of people feel they are major stories that should be covered and Fox is the only network doing so?

Think about it.

HOW TO DRIVE IN NEW JERSEY

Ken Berwitz

My wife works with a really terrific lady named Molly (I don't give out last names in the blog).  Since Molly lives in Asbury Park, we'll just call her Asbury Park Molly.

Asbury Park Molly handed my wife a very funny (and, for the most part, all too true) description of how to drive in New Jersey.  For those of you who either drive in The Garden State (What garden?  Beats me) or expect to any time soon, this will be an invaluable aid for you.

Here it is:

HOW TO DRIVE IN NEW JERSEY

Overview:

There are only two things needed to drive effectively in NJ:  A horn and a middle finger.  Everything else is superfluous, including knowing where you are going.  For those of you who live in Jersey or have lived there, the following rules will come as no surprise.  For those who havent traveled there before, BEWARE!!!  Be PREPARED!!!

The Rules:

1. You must first learn to pronounce the city names.  It is Nork rhymes with Fork not New-ark.  Also, Trenton is not pronounced Tren-ton, it is Trent-in.

2. The morning rush hour is from 5 AM to noon.  The evening rush hour is from noon to 7 PM.  Fridays rush hour starts on Thursday morning.

3. The minimum acceptable speed on the New Jersey Turnpike is 85 MPH.  On the Garden State Parkway it is 105 or 110.  Anything less is considered rude because it slows down other drivers (just ask our Governor).

4. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere.  Jersey has its own version of traffic rules.  For example, cars/trucks with the loudest muffler go first at a four-way stop.  The trucks with the biggest tires go second.

5. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear-ended, cursed out and possibly shot.

6. Never honk at anyone.  EVER!  It is another offense that can get you shot.

7. Road construction is permanent and continuous in all of New Jersey.  Detour barrels are moved around for your entertainment pleasure during the middle of the night, to make the next days driving a bit more exciting.

8. Watch carefully for road hazards such as drunks, skunks, dogs, cats, barrels, cones, rubber-neckers, shredded tires, cell-phones, dear and other road kill -- and the homeless feeding on any of these items.

9. MapQuest does NOT work here none of the roads are where it says they are or go where it says they go.  All the New Jersey Turnpike E-Z Pass lanes are moved each night, once again to make your ride more exciting.

10. If someone actually has their turn signal ON, it is good etiquette to wave them to the shoulder immediately and let them know it has been accidentally activated.  Theyll be very appreciative.

11. If you are in the left lane and only driving 70 MPH in a 55 65 MPH zone, you are considered a road hazard and will be flipped off accordingly.  If you return the flip-off, you will be shot.

12. Do not try to estimate travel time.  Just leave Monday afternoon for Tuesday appointments, by noon Thursday for Friday appointments, and right after church on Sunday for anything on Monday morning.

I hope this has been helpful.  Happy motoring.

RACISM AND JIMMY CARTER'S CABINET

Ken Berwitz

jimmy carter is taking time out from his main activity - working toward ending Israel as a Jewish state - to tell us that the people who criticize President Obama mostly do so because they are racist.

With this in mind, I thought you might want to see who carter selected for his cabinet when he was President.  Here, from www.infoplease.com, is the entire list:

Cabinet Members Under Carter

Shirley Mount Hufstedler, 1979
Secretary of State Cyrus R. Vance, 1977
Edmund S. Muskie, 1980
Secretary of the Treasury W. Michael Blumenthal, 1977
G. William Miller, 1979
Secretary of Defense Harold Brown, 1977
Attorney General Griffin B. Bell, 1977
Benjamin R. Civiletti, 1979
Secretary of the Interior Cecil D. Andrus, 1977
Secretary of Agriculture Bob S. Bergland, 1977
Secretary of Commerce Juanita M. Kreps, 1977
Philip M. Klutznick, 1979
Secretary of Labor F. Ray Marshall, 1977
Secretary of Health and Human Services1 Joseph A. Califano, Jr., 1977
Patricia Roberts Harris, 1979
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Patricia Roberts Harris, 1977
Moon Landrieu, 1979
Secretary of Transportation Brock Adams, 1977
Neil E. Goldschmidt, 1979
Secretary of Energy James R. Schlesinger, 1977
Charles W. Duncan, Jr., 1979
Secretary of Education

1. Known as Department of Health, Education, and Welfare until May 1980.

WITH ONE EXCEPTION (THE VERY LIGHT-SKINNED PATRICIA ROBERTS HARRIS), EVERY ORIGINAL CABINET MEMBER AND EVERY REPLACEMENT WAS WHITE.

And let's remember that jimmy carter was a Democrat - and, therefore had a huge majority of Black support (82%, versus just 16% for Gerald Ford).  This is how he thanked them.

By way of comparison, Republican George Bush, who averaged less than 10% Black support across his two presidential elections, had more Black Secretaries of State than jimmy carter had Black cabinet members in total.

If any reader still wants to listen to this hypocrite and fraud give lectures on who is and isn't a racist, be my guest.  But don't say you didn't know.  Because you do.

(a hat tip to rface)

BOBW JIMMY CARTER WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS NOT ONLY ONE OF THE WORSE PRESIDENTS THAT WE EVER HAD BUT ALSO AS A WALKING TALKING -PRUNE. WHO CARES WHAT THIS IDIOT HAS TO SAY- THE ONLY PERSOM DUMBER THAN THIS QUACK IS IDIOT JOE BIDEN PERHAPS THEY SHOULD PUT EACH OTHERS SMELLY FOOT AND EACH OTHERS MOUTH (09/16/09)

MARY TRAVERS R.I.P.

Ken Berwitz

The incomparable Mary Travers, of Peter Paul and Mary, died today in Danbury, Connecticut after a years-long battle with leukemia.  She was 72 years old.

If Peter Paul and Mary was not the single greatest folk-trio of all time it was certainly in the top 3.  And, to me, the amazingly evocative singing of Mary Travers was the major reason why.

In the late 60's/early 70's, I worked on the upper east side, at Lexington Avenue and 60th Street.  Mary Travers lived a few blocks from there and, when she wasn't on tour, we would occasionally see her walking with her child to central park.  There was nothing special about it, she was just being a regular mom, enjoying time with her little one.  That sticks in my mind as vividly as the magical way she sang.

In Mary Travers, we have lost a truly great talent.  May she rest in peace.

MICHELLE MALKIN ON THE ACORN "PROTECTION RACKETS"

Ken Berwitz

Here is Michelle Malkin's latest column - which talks about the undercover operation that exposed ACORN for what most (though, sadly, not all) intelligent people already knew it was.  Please pay special attention to the last paragraph, which I have put in bold print:

ACORN Watch: A "Sting"-ing Indictment of Media Hypocrisy

by Michelle Malkin

Undercover journalism is only acceptable when it fits a liberal agenda.  That is the message from "professional" reporters and left-wing activists outraged about three successful video stings targeting President Obama's old friends at the left-wing tax-subsidized outfit ACORN.

Conservative documentarian James O'Keefe and writer Hannah Giles, working for the BigGovernment.com website, posed as a pimp and prostitute during visits to ACORN offices in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Brooklyn. ACORN housing officials and tax advisers offered them brazen suggestions on how to lie on their applications, disguise their income, obscure their child sex-ring business and hide cash from abusive johns. ("When you buy the house with the backyard, you get a tin," an ACORN counselor in New York told Giles, "and you bury it down in there, cover it and put the grass over it.")

Summing up the ACORN Housing Corporation philosophy, another Brooklyn ACORN official told the undercover pair bluntly: "Honesty is not going to get you the house."

ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson blasted the investigation as "gotcha journalism." Echoing ACORN's defenders, MSNBC anchor Norah O'Donnell fretted on Tuesday that Giles and O'Keefe's methods "might be viewed as entrapment. That some conservative activists used hidden cameras to get this stuff on camera."

O'Donnell has apparently forgotten the inglorious history of news "entrapment" by her betters at NBC News.

This is the network that surreptitiously rigged GM pickup trucks in staged crash tests in 1993 to show that the vehicles were unsafe -- and failed to inform viewers that the simulations used incendiary devices to ignite the explosions. Jane Pauley admitted in a nationally televised apology that "NBC's contractor did put incendiary devices under the trucks to ensure there would be a fire if gasoline were released from the gas tank. NBC personnel knew this before we aired the program, but the public was not informed because consultants at the scene told us the devices did not start the fire. We agree with GM that we should have told the viewer about these devices."

This is the network that pioneered the "To Catch a Predator" series -- an investigative sting operation to nab Internet pedophiles. Until last year, the journalists worked with activist group Perverted Justice, whose members posed as children in web chat rooms to lure alleged pedophiles to a residential home.

This is the network that sent out an intrepid NBC News reporter in a canoe to cover treacherous New Jersey flooding in 2005 -- only to be shown up by passers-by who sloshed in front of the camera and demonstrated that the water was only a few inches deep.

This is the network that tried to arrange Islamophobia stings at NASCAR events in 2006 to try to "expose" racism among Southerners. The network worked with a Muslim activist who sent a recruitment notice across the Internet:

"I have been talking with a producer of the NBC Dateline show, and he is in the process of filming a piece on anti-Muslim and anti-Arab discrimination in the USA. They are looking for some Muslim male candidates for their show who would be willing to go to non-Muslim gatherings and see if they attract any discriminatory comments or actions while being filmed. NBC is willing to fly in someone and cover their weekend expenses. The filming would take place all day on Saturday and Sunday."

The same sting tactics were adopted by ABC News' Primetime Live news show in Alabama and Texas.

"Professional" undercover journalists see their work as serving the public and national interests, exposing wrongdoing, and blowing the whistle on illicit activities that would not otherwise see the light of day. But this is exactly what the ACORN stings have done.

Taxpayers deserve to know how ACORN and its vast web of nonprofit, tax-exempt affiliates are using their money (40 percent of the group's revenue comes from the government). The flagship group trains publicly funded ACORN tax advisers and mortgage counselors across the country. In fact, ACORN is now managing apartments in Bedford-Stuyvesant, N.Y., for the newly completed Atlantic Avenue Apartments. Yet, ACORN Housing Corporation has a long history of abusing federal housing funds and AmeriCorps grants for political activities.

Head-in-the-sand ABC News anchor Charles Gibson claimed he "didn't know" about the ACORN scandal this week and snarked that "maybe this is just one you leave to the cables."

Giles and O'Keefe's investigations (and there are more to come, according to BigGovernment.com's Andrew Breitbart) have exposed not one but two protection rackets: ACORN's -- and the ostrich media's.

Ms. Malkin is dead-on, 100% right.  ACORN is running a protection racket, as amply demonstrated by the videos (and, we are told, there are more to come).

And our wonderful "neutral" media are even worse.  That is because ACORN doesn't pretend to be nonpartisan.  But the media people who either look the other way or profess ignorance that the story even exists (reread the utterly shameless lie from Charles Gibson)?  They do.

Clearly, that is the biggest lie of all.

BOBW IF OUR WONDERFUL CONGRESSMAN AND FAT SENATORS DID NOT HAVE ON TINTED EYEGLASSES TYHEY WOULD WAKE UP -PROTECT AMERICA AND HAVE A FULL BLOWN CONGESSIONAL HEARING AND TRULLY INVESTIGATE ACORN. ALL IT TAKES ARE SOME BALLS AND FORTITUDE TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT (09/16/09)

THE RACIST GAMBIT: IS IT WORKING?

Ken Berwitz

How does the general public feel about the inference that to oppose "Obamacare" is to be a racist?

I'll let Rasmussen Research give you a hint:

12% Say Most Opponents of Obama Health Care Plan Are Racist

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Twelve percent (12%) of voters nationwide believe that most opponents of President Obamas health care reform plan are racist. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 67% of voters disagree, and 21% are not sure.

In recent days, several Democrats have suggested that racism is a factor. The most prominent to make that accusation is former President Jimmy Carter.

Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans reject the notion that most of the opponents are racist. So do 78% of voters not affiliated with either major party. However, just 39% of Democrats share that view. Twenty-two percent (22%) of those in the presidents party say that most of the opposition to his plan comes from racists, and another 39% are not sure.

The presidents health care proposal has encountered stronger opposition than anticipated by the White House. For most of the summer, a majority of the nations voters opposed the plan. Following the presidents nationally televised speech last week, support for the plan increased temporarily. However, support is now back to pre-speech levels.

Maybe, just maybe, the racism gambit is not a good one - no matter how many of the reliably loyal media are willing to drone out agreement.

And doesn't it figure that jimmy carter, abject failure of a President that he was, would pick the day this study is released to tell us that opposition to President Obama is largely due to racism?

What a disaster on legs carter is, and always has been.  He would need remedial help to achieve loser status.

JON STEWART NAILS ACORN

Ken Berwitz

Now that I've written a number of blogs about the ACORN scandal - which mainstream media are avoiding the way a wolfman avoids garlic and wolfbane - I thought you might be interested in how Jon Stewart handled the story.

Here is his commentary from The Daily Show, via www.bighollywood.com.  (If you have trouble seeing it, just click here instead):

I'm not always a fan of Mr. Stewart's.  But credit where credit is due:  he nailed this one beautifully.

At “Hopelessly Partisan” we discuss all issues, big and small. In here, nothing is sacred and nothing is out of bounds.

So settle back, preferably after laughing your way through a copy of “The Hopelessly Partisan Guide To American Politics”, and let the battle begin. In this blog, your opinion counts every bit as much as anyone else's, maybe even more.

And to show that my willingness to provide all sides of the issues is sincere, here are links to a variety of web sites, from the left, the middle (more or less) and the right. Read them and either smile in agreement or gnash your teeth in anger!!
