CHRIS MOUTTHEWS' SELECTIVE OUTRAGE

Ken Berwitz

Last night I made the mistake of watching Chris Matthews (or, as I call him, Chris Moutthews) for a couple of minutes.

Mr. Moutthews was sneering out an insult about Sarah Palin because she said that the "troopergate" findings "vindicated" her.  He pointed out, correctly, that the investigation concluded that her behavior was an "abuse of power".  He sarcastically commented that, in essence, anyone who found findings like these a vindication must be living on another planet.  And viewers who didn't know better were left to assume that Moutthews was correct and Palin was ridiculous.

The problem, however, is that Mr. Moutthews left something out.  While it is true that an abuse of power was mentioned, the investigation also concluded that what Ms. Palin did (fire Walter Monegan, Alaska's public safety commissioner) was entirely within her rights

Sarah Palin decided, for whatever her reasons, that someone who served at her pleasure and discretion should be relieved of his duties -- something that EVERY governor in EVERY state can do and presumably has done at one time or another.

In other words.......What Sarah Palin did was absolutely nothing with nothing.

Moutthews also left out the fact that the lead investigator was Hollis French, a Democrat and a political enemy of Palin's.  If the investigation had been headed by someone neutral, it is entirely likely that, given the 100% legality of what she did, the "abuse of power" line wouldn't have been there  at all.

So, bottom line, Moutthews lied by omission.  What he said was true, but he left out part of the story to intentionally lead viewers to an erroneous conclusion.

Gee, I wonder if he works for MSNBC......

OBAMA & ACORN: THE LIES CONTINUE

Ken Berwitz

Will Barack Obama stop lying about his association with ACORN?

Can Barack Obama stop lying about his association with ACORN (or, for that matter, anything else)?

Obama on ACORN Controversy: A Distraction We Dont Need ACORNs Help

October 14, 2008

ABC News noted that Senator

McCain today said that there has been voter fraud going on in the battleground states. ACORN is tampering with Americans most precious right; there has to be a full and complete investigation.  And he also said that you need to disclose your full relationship with ACORN. Im wondering if you have any reaction to the reports of voter fraud and also to Sen. McCains charge?

Obama replied: first of all, my relationship to ACORN is pretty straightforward.  Its probably 13 years ago when I was still practicing law, I represented ACORN and my partner in that representation was the US Justice Department in having Illinois implement what was called the Motor Voter law,  to make sure that people could go to DMVs and drivers license facilities to get registered.. It wasnt being implemented. That was my relationship and is my relationship to ACORN.

There is an ACORN organization in Chicago,

Obama continued. They have been active. As an elected official, Ive had interactions with them. But they are not advising our campaign. Weve got the best voter registration and turnout and volunteer operation in politics right now and we dont need ACORNs help.

My understanding in terms of the voter fraud, because having run a voter registration drive, I know how problems arise, this is typically a situation where ACORN probably paid people to get registrations and these folks, not wanting to actually register people because thats actually hard work, just went into a phone book or made up names and submitted false registrations to get paid,

Obama said. So theres been fraud perpetrated probably on ACORN if they paid these individuals and they actually didnt do registrations.

But this

isnt a situation where theres actually people who are going to try to vote cause these are phony names, Obama said. And, its doubtful (Dallas Cowboys quarterback) Tony Romo (whose name has been fraudulently submitted) is gonna show up in Ohio to vote. So this is another one of these distractions that gets stirred up in the course of a campaign.

But what I want to make sure of, is that this is not used as an excuse for the kind of voter suppression strategies and tactics that we

ve seen in the past. Lets just make sure everybody is voting, everybodys registered.  Lets make sure that everybodys doing it in a lawful way.

As we have previously noted, Mr.

Obama worked for Project Vote in 1992, which is ACORN. (They even share the same address and phone number on their form 990s).

ACORN, in turn, has worked to get him elected ever since.

Also, as have previously reported, Mr.

Obama trained leaders for ACORN for years, according to a top ACORN official.

And, lest we forget, he slipped ACORN $832,598 via their book keepers Citizen Services. (A detail they also forgot to admit to the

FEC.)

So why should we believe anything this man says?

And would someone please ask Mr.

Obama to cite even one provable instance of voter suppression?

We

ll wait.

.
Barack Obama lies and lies.  But he can sell and sell, so a good many people believe and believe.

McCain better have one helluva good debate tonight.  I wonder if he's capable of doing it...and I wonder if it's too late anyway.
