DRILLING FOR OIL: THE PROGRESS OF A WEDGE ISSUE (CONT.)

Ken Berwitz

Here is the latest on what I consider to be the single biggest wedge issue of the 2008 campaign:  drilling for oil so that we can increase our domestic supply.

I am posting an excerpt from today's article by Zachary Coile of the San Francisco Examiner, which gives us the details:

Pelosi blocks offshore drilling vote GOP wants

Friday, August 1, 2008

(08-01) 04:00 PDT Washington --

For weeks, pressure has been mounting in Congress to approve more domestic oil drilling, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has held the line, using her power to block a vote on offshore drilling.

President Bush has made almost daily calls for Democratic leaders to take action. House GOP leaders, citing a new poll showing that a slim majority of Californians now favor offshore drilling, issued a release Thursday saying "even (Pelosi's) own California neighbors oppose her efforts to block new drilling far off American coasts." GOP lawmakers are so disgruntled they're urging Bush to deny Congress its August break by calling a special session on energy.

Some Democrats wary

Even some Democrats are getting antsy, fearing the party's stance could hurt them in the fall elections. But Pelosi, who has opposed offshore drilling throughout her two decades in Congress, insists opening new areas to drilling won't lower gas prices in the short term. She believes a vote would only help the GOP blame Democrats for high gas prices.

"I will not ... give the administration an excuse for its failure," Pelosi said at an end-of-session roundtable interview Thursday.

Republicans have put a bull's-eye on the federal moratorium on coastal drilling, which has kept most of the East and West coasts off limits to new oil rigs since 1982. Bush announced earlier this month that he would lift the presidential moratorium on drilling, and the GOP is now seeking to lift the congressional ban.

Pelosi drew derision from her critics for telling the Web site Politico this week that she was blocking a vote on offshore drilling because "I'm trying to save the planet." But she elaborated on that theme Thursday, saying she sees energy independence and fighting global warming as "my flagship issue." She said she will use her power to resist a policy that could increase the country's oil dependency.

"I'm not going to be diverted for a political tactic from a course of action that has a big-picture view - a vision about an energy-independent future that reduces our dependence on fossil fuels ... and focuses on those renewables that are protective of the environment," she said.

Republicans are quietly gleeful at Pelosi's tactics, which have only breathed more life into an issue the GOP is clinging to as a lifeline in an otherwise grim year for the party. Some House Republicans said Thursday that they will ask Bush to order a special session of Congress in August if lawmakers adjourn this week, as expected, without voting on drilling.

While a special session is unlikely, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, made clear that his party plans to use the issue as a bludgeon against Democrats throughout the five-week August recess.

"A solid majority of Americans want us to have more drilling for more American-made energy, and they aren't going to take no for an answer," Boehner said Thursday. "Speaker Pelosi, Senators (Harry) Reid and (Barack) Obama are defying the will of the American people, and they're doing so at their own risk."

Some Democrats have already started to shift their views. Rep. Tim Holden, D-Pa., who voted two years ago against drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and for a federal ban on offshore drilling, told a hometown paper last weekend he now wants to "drill everywhere."

A new CNN/Opinion Research poll released this week found that 69 percent of Americans favor more offshore drilling, while 30 percent oppose it. But the poll found the public was split over whether more coastal drilling would lower gas prices, with 51 percent saying yes and 49 percent saying no.

Barring a new terrorist attack or some other major event, the cost of oil/gas is, to me, the one issue most likely to move voters from one side to the other.  It is the single best chance for Republicans to retain the White House and to stave off major Democratic congressional gains in November.

If Republicans are smart (how's that for a stretch?) they will make Nancy Pelosi the poster politician in every race.  They will use her the way Democrats used Newt Gingrich a decade ago.  They will tie her to every Democratic candidate.

And John McCain will make his proposals for increasing domestic supply (offshore drilling, nuclear plants, etc.) the cornerstone of his campaign against Barack Obama, who appears irreversibly committed to none of the above.

If McCain runs against the ridiculous Obama/Democratic position that  increasing our domestic oil production won't affect anything, he can win this election with room to spare -- and maybe bring more than a few congressional Republicans along for the (less expensive) ride.

NOchangefromLast8YearsofFailure What a crock- Change from McCain't and Palin- I dont think so.Thanks for the Budget deficit and economy in the Crapper, Dubya...while Sneered-faced Cheney ran off with more money than he'll ever be able to spend from Halliburton and your worthless war with my tax money. Have fun GOPers paying this debt off for generations... let's let warhawk McCain and nutjob"pipeline for God" Palin add to the freakin' debt.... 4 years from now the country will be disgusted with marketed product the name GOP brings to mind if McAint/Palin win.... IS AYMAN AL-ZAWAHIRI SEVERELY INJURED OR DEAD?

Ken Berwitz

I picked up this report from CBS news (which claims it as an exclusive, though it is all over the internet).  How I hope the news is true:

Exclusive: Al Qaeda No. 2 Injured?
Aug. 1, 2008

(CBS) Ayman al-Zawahiri - the second most powerful leader in al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden's No. 2 - may be critically wounded and possibly dead, CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Lara Logan reports exclusively.

CBS News has obtained a copy of an intercepted letter from sources in Pakistan, which urgently requests a doctor to treat al-Zawahiri. He's believed to be somewhere in Pakistan's remote tribal areas of Pakistan.

The letter refers to Sheikh Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri by name - and says that he is in "severe pain" and his "injuries are infected."

It is reportedly written by local Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud, whose signature and seal are visible on the letter.

The Taliban logo and the Mehsud's seal have been confirmed by experts as legitimate.

However, CBS News has not been able to confirm the authenticity of Baitullah Mehsud's signature and seal.

The letter is dated July 29 - one day after a U.S. air strike that killed al Qaeda weapons expert Abu Khabab al-Masri, and five other Arabs in South Waziristan.

U.S. authorities have said they do not have information that al-Zawahiri was present during Monday's strike, or that he was injured.

However, a counter-intelligence expert and other U.S. officials confirmed to CBS News that the U.S. is looking into reports that al-Zawahiri is dead.

Logan reports that while there have been false death rumors regarding al-Zawahiri before, there have been no denials yet from Pakistan, the U.S. or al Qaeda Web sites.

Apart from the joy and elation any decent person would feel about the demise of this murdering subhuman scum, it is also a reminder that - even though we may not see it overtly or read about it day to day - there are always efforts to find the al qaeda hierarchy and "bing it to justice" (i.e. kill the bastards).

The Democratic leadership likes to pretend this doesn't happen.  That's great for rabble-rousing and getting cheap votes.  But it does.

Let's all hope the reports are confirmed....and that bin laden will be nailed next time.

Jack Wormer It is so easy to befuddle the average, gullible American with disinformation! Especially in this campaign-season I would NOT lend credence to anything coming out of Irak/Afghanistan whether from friend or foe.... (08/02/08)

CHRISTOPHER BRIDGES/ludacris & BARACK OBAMA

Ken Berwitz

What do you do when a rap "artist" who you have complimented and who you personally listen to puts out a song to support you, and the song is so odious that you have to denounce it?

You may not be familiar with the name christopher bridges.  You probably know him by his stage name, which is "ludacris".

He should only be ludicrous and nothing more.  But he is a lot more than that.

bridges/ludicris is one of the most successful of the all-too-many rap singers whose "music" is comprised of the sickest vilest filth imaginable, replete with the worst language you can think of.  What is even sicker and more vile is that he has become fabulously rich performing this sick, vile filth - in no small part to children.

Barack Obama likes christopher bridges' music.  He has it on his iPod.  That's not me talking, that's Mr. Obama talking.

But, like the other sick, vile people in Obama's life (think jeremiah wright, william ayers, bernardine dohrn, antoin 'tony' rezko and - based on Obama's denunciation of her as a racist - his own grandmother), when the voters might react negatively he suddenly turns on a dime and attacks them ferociously.

Here are the lyrics to christopher bridges' "music" in support of Barack Obama (if you have the stomach you can listen to it by clicking here.).  The bold print is mine:

I'm back on it like I just signed my record deal
Yeah the best is here, the Bentley Coup paint is dripping wet, it got sex appeal
Never should have hated
You never should've doubted him
With a slot in the president's iPod Obama shattered 'em

Said I handled his biz and I'm one of his favorite rappers
Well give Luda a special pardon if I'm ever in the slammer
Better yet put him in office, make me your vice president
Hillary hated on you, so that bitch is irrelevant

Jesse talking slick and apologizing for what?
If you said it then you meant it how you want it have a gut!
And all you other politicians trying to hate on my man,
watch us win a majority vote in every state on my man

You can't stop what's bout to happen, we bout to make history
The first black president is destined and it's meant to be
The threats ain't fazing us, the nooses or the jokes
So get off your ass, black people, it's time to get out and vote!

Paint the White House black and I'm sure that's got 'em terrified
McCain don't belong in any chair unless he's paralyzed
Yeah I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped
Ball up all of his speeches and I throw 'em like candy wrap
'cause what you talking I hear nothing even relevant
and you the worst of all 43 presidents

Get out and vote or the end will be near
The world is ready for change because Obama is here!
'cause Obama is here
The world is ready for change because Obama is here!

Are you sickened?  Well be even more sickened by the fact that these are some of the tamest lyrics this sick excuse for a human being puts out.

So what does Barack Obama do?  What can he do? He trots out his flak, Bill Burton, to denounce the guy he has on his iPod and who he thought so much of:

"As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesnt want his daughters or any children exposed to," said spokesman Bill Burton. "This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics."

Well, gee.  I guess ol' ludacris must have blindsided Barack Obama with this song.  Because Mr. Obama clearly wants no part of rap "artists" like this.  So when Obama was complimenting bridges/ludicris' "music" and telling us he even had some on his own iPod, he couldn't have known that bridges/ludacris was capable of such disgusting lyrics.  Right?

Wrong.  And I can prove it.

Here is a tiny sampling of lyrics from bridges/ludacris before the Obama song.  I selected them from literally dozens just like them:

Let's start with the poignant, deep, "Blow it out":

AOWWWW!
I never used to snore in my sleep 'til this rap shit started
Warm thoughts fill the hot-headed and cold-hearted
Your whole paycheck, you burp it and then fart it
And y'all think I'm gon' stop? BLOW IT OUT YA ASS!
In one year I got rich, now life's movin so fast
But bein broke with no food is just a thing of the past
Plus I'm the new phenomenon like white women with ass
And y'all prayin that I flop? BLOW IT OUT YA ASS!

Then we have the lovely "Move Bitch":

[Ludacris]
OH NO! The fight's out
I'ma 'bout to punch yo...lights out
Get the FUCK back, guard ya grill
There's somethin' wrong, we can't stay still
I've been drankin' and bustin' two
and I been thankin' of bustin' you
Upside ya motherfuckin' forehead
And if your friends jump in, "Ohhh gurrlll", they'll be mo' dead
Causin' confusion, Disturbin Tha Peace
It's not an illusion, we runnin the streets
So bye-bye to all you groupies and golddiggers
Is there a bumper on your ass? NO NIGGA!
I'm doin' a hundred on the highway
So if you do the speed limit, get the FUCK outta my way
I'm D.U.I., hardly ever caught sober
and you about to get ran the FUCK over

[Chorus]

[Mystikal over second chorus]
BITCH! Watch out, watch out, watch out
BITCH! Watch out, watch out, watch out, move

I will conclude this tiny sampling with the heartfelt emotionally wrenching "Get The Fuck Back"

intro I-20]
What the fuck's up!
DTP in this mother fucker
And for all ya'll that don't like it
Do one thing, get the fuck back
'Cause all my niggas iz ready
Luda, 20, Fate, Shawna
Let's show these mutha fuckers how we disturb the peace
Get the fuck back, bitch
[shooting and screaming in the background]

[Chorus]
[Ludacris]
Fuck That!
Get the fuck back!
Luda make your skull crack
Tuck that
Bitch, your whole town's on my nutsack
Cuff that
Put it in your weed, nigga, puff that
What's that
People gon' die tonight

The point of presenting this sub-garbage is simple:  Obama knew EXACTLY what bridges/ludacris was BEFORE his "song" of support.

And Obama knew just as well that at least some of the millions upon millions of dollars this sick excuse for a human being rakes in are from CD sales for children.........just like Barack Obama's own daughters.

So when Barack Obama implies through his paid flak that this is some kind of revelation to him, he is lying to your face.

And the attempt to explain it away with the insincere, ridiculous statement I quoted above means that Obama and his people think you are stupid.  Stupid and ignorant.  Stupid, ignorant and capable of being made a complete fool of.

They are either right or wrong.  Which is it?

THE MCCAIN "MOSES" AD

Ken Berwitz

While the Obama camp and its fawning media continue to have their deidies in a bunch over John McCain's "Paris Hilton" ad, he's put out another one.

It not only is a riot, but makes Obama look like the most supersedingly arrogant fool on the planet -- in his own words..

Here, see for yourself, courtesy of www.breitbart.com (if you have trouble clicking on the video below, just click here instead):

.

Praise The One: New McCain Ad Attacks The Divine Obama
"In 2008, the world will be blessed. They will call him 'The One.'"

There you have it.  His mouth, his voice, his words.  That isn't McCain speaking, it's Obama speaking.

And if their undies were in a bunch over "Paris Hilton", then this  "Moses" commercial is going to give them, oh, ten conniptions.

Call it Charlton versus the charlatan.
