THE UN'S 'INTELLIGENCE' REGARDING IRAN

Ken Berwitz

I must owe the UN an apology.

Here I was, thinking that it is a useless, ineffective organization that can't handle anything internationally, and they proveD me wrong.

They MUST have proved me wrong, because they are telling me (and you) definitively that Iran has no nuclear capability --- even as ahmadinejihad is telling us he has nukes.

Here, courtesy of Reuters, is what I'm talking about:.

No proof Iran running 3,000 centrifuges: diplomats

By Mark Heinrich1 hour, 34 minutes ago

There is no evidence for the Iranian president's announcement that Iran has 3,000 centrifuges running, which would allow it to produce significant amounts of nuclear fuel, diplomats familiar with U.N. inspections said.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad defiantly proclaimed the achievement on Sunday after Western powers cast doubt on an Iranian atomic transparency plan and warned of stiffer sanctions against Tehran over its refusal to stop enriching uranium.

Nuclear experts say 3,000 centrifuges run smoothly in unison at supersonic speed for long periods could refine enough uranium for an atom bomb in about a year, although Iran says it has no plan to develop nuclear weapons.

But Ahmadinejad's reference to 3,000 "working" appeared at odds with the latest quarterly International Atomic Energy Agency report on Iran, which said about 2,000 centrifuges were enriching uranium as of August 19 at the underground Natanz plant.

About 800 centrifuges were at various stages of installation and testing there and in a small pilot facility but few were enriching uranium. Even the 2,000 in the main plant were operating well below capacity, the August 30 report said.

One diplomat familiar with observations by inspectors for the Vienna-based U.N. nuclear watchdog agency said "there's no evidence" of 3,000 centrifuges running together.

"Wishful thinking, perhaps," said the diplomat, who did not want to be named. "There are various way to count these numbers. We don't know what he meant. Maybe (Ahmadinejad) just combined numbers from the main plant and pilot facility."

Another diplomat close to the IAEA said, "Ahmadinejad may just be reflecting the number of centrifuges installed."

SOME ADVANCES POSSIBLE

Analysts could not rule out that Iran had made production advances since mid-August, but it was unlikely to be to the extent that Ahmadinejad suggested.

The first diplomat said IAEA inspectors could revisit the Natanz complex and bring back updated figures for a meeting of the IAEA's 35-nation board of governors that is to begin on Monday.

Iran says it wants nuclear technology to generate electricity so it can export more oil, but has failed to convince big powers it is not covertly trying to build bombs.

The U.N. Security Council has imposed two rounds of limited sanctions since December and Western countries have threatened to toughen them.

Ahmadinejad first announced "industrial" enrichment capacity in April. But many analysts have treated periodic Iranian statements about atomic breakthroughs with skepticism, saying they could be meant to convince Western foes the programme is irreversible -- even if U.N. sanctions are intensified.

The IAEA report indicated that the pace of Iran's centrifuge installation had slowed markedly since April. Diplomats cite as possible factors both technical difficulties and political restraint designed to head off more painful sanctions.

Iran has repeatedly dismissed reports that its programme is stumbling and vowed to resist any sanctions.

I consider ahmadinejihad (yes I added two letters to his name) a madman, a religious fanatic and a hate-filled mass murdering wannabe.  There are few things he could ever say that I would believe .

But if there is one thing neither I nor you, nor the UN nor anyone else can afford to dismiss out of hand, it is the possibility that Iran now has a nuclear capability.

What if ahmadinejihad has what he says he has?  What if this lunatic USES what he says he has, as he has made plain he intends to do?

What will the UN say then?  That they're sorry?

We already saw how capable the UN was in this regard, when hans blix's merry men were led on a countrywide wild goose chase by sadddam -- while blix himself stayed in New York and lived the good life.

Do you really want to put the future of the world in the hands of an organization which monitors madmen this way?  Do you really believe a thing these feckless fosdicks say?

The UN can't even figure out how to stop genocide by machete in Sudan.  Its forces have demonstrated far more proficiency in raping underage girls in the Congo and other areas where the population is helpless than they have in preventing any conflict.  You want to rest your life and the lives of everyone you know on THEIR best guess?

Think about it.

THE NEW Y0RK TIMES: HILLARY WHO? WHAT CAMPAIGN SCANDAL

Ken Berwitz

There have been two major Democratic fundraising scandals uncovered in the past week, both of which directly put major campaign money into the hands of Hillary Clinton (among others).  One involves Norman Hsu and the involves Sant S. Chatwal.

You can read my blogs on both of these dirtbags by scrolling back a short distance.  If you haven't done so already, please do.  It's not good to be uninformed.

I just got off a plane about an hour ago, from Newark NJ to Chicago.   While in the air, I scoured ttoday's New York Times for information on either of these two scoundrels and their direct ties to Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton.  And guess what:  NOT ONE WORD about either of them.

A few days ago the Times did a story that simultaneously mentioned Hsu's dirty money history and noted that Hillary was giving the money we know he gave her - so far - to charity.  The tens of thousands he procured through third parties?  Hillary is keeping and was not mentioned in the article.  That's a neat trick; dutifully point out what a slimeball Hsu is and at the same time turn Hillary, who got almost $50,000 directly and indirectly from him, as a saint on earth, who is giving $23,500 of that money to charity.

Now, after doing their best to ameliorate the Hsu scandal, it is out of the paper.  And the Chatwal scandal didn't make it to the hallowed Times pages at all.

This, folks, is blatant bias in favor of Hillary Clinton by the New York Times.

Ok, I admit that saying the Times is advocating for Senator Clinton is roughly equivalent to saying that my wife is advocating for me to hit the lottery.  Some things are self-evident.  But I thought it should be stated in so many words when it happens.

Remember when the New York Times was neutral on its news pages? Remember when it cared about its credibility?

Boy, you have a great memory.

THE ROSIE O'DONNELL CHAIR

Ken Berwitz

So you think that Rosie O'Donnell's departure from The View heralded a more intelligent, level-headed quality of discourse?

Think again.  O'Donnell was replaced by Whoopi Goldberg.

Here, courtesy of the Associated Press is the wit and wisdom of Ms. Goldberg on her first day in the Rosie chair:.

Goldberg Defends Vick in `View' Debut
Sep 4 02:34 PM US/Eastern
NEW YORK (AP) - So much for the sedate alternative to Rosie O'Donnell on "The View."

Whoopi Goldberg used her first day on the daytime chat show Tuesday to defend football star Michael Vick in his dogfighting case.

Goldberg said that "from where he comes from" in the South, dogfighting isn't that unusual.

"It's like cockfighting in Puerto Rico," she said. "There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country."

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges last week, admitting that he provided money for a dogfighting ring that operated on his Virginia property and helped kill six or eight pit bulls. Vick grew up in Newport News, Va.

Goldberg was selected by series creator Barbara Walters to replace O'Donnell, whose stormy tenure on the ABC program lasted less than a year.

In the Vick discussion, Goldberg served notice that she won't shy away from controversy.

Co-host Joy Behar looked horrified at Goldberg.

"How about dog torture and dog murdering?" Behar asked.

For many people, dogs are sport, Goldberg replied, and it appeared it took awhile for Vick to realize that he was up against serious charges.

"I just thought it was interesting, because it seemed like a light went off in his head when he realized this was something that the entire country didn't appreciate," she said.

Vick has been suspended indefinitely by the National Football League and will be sentenced on the dogfighting charges in December. He apologized and asked for forgiveness upon entering his plea in federal court last week.

.

Can she really be that dimwitted?  I don't think so.

I think maybe it's that Goldberg feels the pattern of outrageously idiotic comments was so beneficial to Rosie O'Donnell's career that it might do her some good too.   So what better way to start the ball rolling than to rationalize running illegal dog fights and killing the losers by various sick, loathsome and perverted means (such as electrocution, throwing them against walls, etc)?

I've always thought of Whoopi Goldberg as a very talented comedian and actress with some unfortunate cultural and political ideas.   I just didn't know she would sink this low to get some notoriety for what appears to be her flagging career.

Do you remember the last hit movie she was in?  Me neither.  Her TV show didn't make it.  Her radio gig isn't going anywhere.  So she's reduced to trying to make a wave or two by explaining away Michael Vick.

How sad.  How pathetic.  Yech.

Victoria James I agree that Whoopi made an error of bias when she tried to explain the sick actions of Vick. Has there ever been a case when a Black person has been accused/convicted of an action against a Non-Black person when the African-American community didn't say the Black person was innocent? "The race card" plays consistently in favor of African-American. I think both races should be on the side of justice. As long as prejudice plays the deciding factor, there will never be understanding or justice for either. (09/05/07)

rebecca lipscomb i don't know what low parts of the south ms goldberg has been visiting but in my southern arena there is only contempt for those who maim and torture the helpless. i guess she also visits the places where we mindlessly hate and mistreat black people. too bad and so sad to be so stupid as to say such things about an entire geographical section of our country. BUMPER STICKER SLOGAN UPDATE

Ken Berwitz

Remember when the human oil slick, john edwards, dismissed the global war on terror as a "bumper sticker slogan"?  Remember the Democratic candidates who agreed with him when he said it?

Well, here, courtesy of BBC News, is the latest installment of this phantom war, this "bumper sticker slogan":.

Denmark arrests 'bomb' suspects

Danish police have arrested eight people with alleged links to al-Qaeda on suspicion of planning a bomb attack.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 29, were arrested in Copenhagen and formed part of a terror cell with links to a senior al-Qaeda figure, police said.

They were of Afghan, Pakistani, Somali and Turkish origin and six were Danish citizens, police said.

Denmark's contribution to the US-led military campaign in Iraq has prompted fears that terrorists may target it.

The country also drew anger from Muslims worldwide after a Danish newspaper last year printed cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.

'Unstable explosive'

Police said they raided 11 addresses overnight on Monday in and around Copenhagen.

Buildings in the city's southern suburb of Ishoej and its Noerrebro district - both with large immigrant populations - were among those cordoned off by police.

We have prevented a terror attack
Jakob Scharf
Danish police intelligence agency

The suspects had been under surveillance for some time and Danish investigators had liaised with "several foreign co-operation partners" before making the arrests, police said.

Later on Tuesday, two of the suspects, both 21, were remanded in custody for 27 days, with the first 13 days to be spent in solitary confinement.

The six others would probably be released after questioning, said Jakob Scharf, an official from the Danish police intelligence agency.

"We have prevented a terror attack," Mr Scharf said, but he gave no details of what might have been the intended target of the alleged bombers.

"We would describe the main suspects as militant Islamists with international contacts, including leading members of al-Qaeda," he added.

Danish security services have conducted two major raids on suspected terrorists since 2005.

In February, a court sentenced a Danish citizen of Palestinian origin for involvement in a plan to blow up a European target.

Another three defendants in the trial were acquitted. One of them is awaiting a retrial.

And four men arrested last year in the city of Odense are due to go on trial on Wednesday on suspicion of planning terror attacks. .

That's what john edwards, dennis kucinich, mike gravel, etc think is a "bumper sticker slogan".

Are these people imbeciles?  Or are they just so partisan that reality has been pushed from their cerebrums to some nether region - probably to the posterior - of their essence?

Personally I don't care which, as long as they stay far, far away from the oval office.
