THE "LAMB" VIEW OF MINE SAFETY

Ken Berwitz

I'm certainly no expert on mining and don't pretend otherwise.  But I know a LAMB (member of the Lunatic-left And Mega-moonbat Brigade) when I see one.

With that in mind, here is a sampling of wit and wisdom about the tragic mine disaster in Utah, straight from the "comments" section of one the most popular LAMB sites, www.crooksandliars.com:.

None of this should be any surprise to anyone on this blogit takes something tragic like an exposed boobie before the media sits up and takes notice so it should be no surprise that even after the Sako Mine disaster and the 6 now in Utah that it would still take 3 more deaths before Mine Safety would be an issue.

EVERYBODY could tell this guy was a worm from the get go. Both MSNBC and CNN were calling his first news conference weird.

Now he has cost 3 more incredibly brave men their lives with his self serving crap.

Just like almost every Republican this guy should be in jail. And hopefully will be.

Did you see this jackass (Murray) marching around in that video with the stick in his hand showing everybody how they were doing the rescue? And the shot of him watching the video was scary to me. What an egomaniac. Lock him up!!

They guy should be in jail. Hes a murderer.

murray controls the mining town.everyone in this town owes their living to this guy

word is, if any of them say anything to the press that is seen as negative, they can kiss their livings goodbye

the worst thing i heard this week is a wingnut radio host being an apologist for murray lying about the earthquake

saying that murray said that to protect himself from lawsuits.cuz sometimes accidents just happen

except we all know that we are gonna find that this mine was being run with substandard safety measures

i fucking hate the right in this country

Im waiting for when the Shrub deciders he wants to be dictator do you think his dumb ass will want to be called the Czar Czar?

The heck of a job tag is incredibly fitting. This is Utahs Katrina. I-35w was Minneapolis Katrina. Five years of appointing the absolute WORST person possible to positions of responsibility has come home to roost for the bush admin. Too bad hell never pay for it or care about it.

How many innocents have to die before Bush-Cheney are impeached for their cronyism, lies and incompetence? Goddess knows they dont have the common decency to step down..

I bet you didn't know that mining tragedies started in the Bush administration, that mines which were built and operational long before the Bush presidency magically became unsafe when the current president took office, that _________ is a murderer (pick from the choices above),that Bush was responsible for Katrina and the Minneapolis bridge collapse, etc. etc. etc.  And don't forget the indication that "God" became "Goddess" in the last screed.

Now:  where in all that did you see ALTERNATIVE ideas, other than just shut it down and punish the owner and every Republican you can find?

These are the people whose candidates you might or might not decide to vote into power next year.  Think about it.  And think long and hard about your choices.

ED MORRISSEY ON ZIMBABWE

Ken Berwitz

Ed Morrissey of www.captainsquartersblog.com has a grim, heartbreaking assessment regarding what little is left of Zimbabwe under robert mugabe.  It hurts to read this, but Morrissey - as usual - is brilliant in his analysis about the situation there and what will happen once the inevitable collapse comes.

Read it and weep.  .

Zimbabwe Collapse In Four Months: Telegraph

Zimbabwe has just about reached the end of its tether, according to Western officials contacted by The Telegraph, and in four months will be reduced to anarchy. Britain has plans to evacuate its 20,000 citizens on an emergency basis as the former agricultural power will send its starving people into the street in a paroxysm of anger, tribal conflicts, and utter collapse:

Speaking anonymously because of the sensitivity of the subject, one Western official said: "It is hard to be definitive, but probably within months, by the end of the year, we will see the formal economy cease to work."

He added: "One of the great dangers in all this, if Mugabe hangs on for much longer, is that the country will slip from authoritarianism to anarchy, the government will lose control of the provinces, it will lose control of the towns and you will have a situation where the central authority's writ no longer holds." ....

There are also fears that a breakdown in law and order could lead to an outbreak of ethnic conflict between Zimbabwe's two main tribes, Mugabe's own Shona and the Ndebele in the southwest.

Some political groups are already talking about regime change as an opportunity to press for independence, while more extreme elements have voiced agendas that could amount to "ethnic cleansing".

The dictatorship of Robert Mugabe could not have made more bad moves had it planned on destroying the nation. It took its productive farms from their owners -- whites from the British era of Rhodesia -- and assigned them to political cronies, who turned Zimbabwe from a net exporter of agriculture to a beggar nation. Mugabe then tried to drive the poor out of the cities, and the black market that fed most of them collapsed. Faced with rising shortages and the predictable inflation that followed, Mugabe capped prices -- and now no one can find anything on store shelves. Riots break out whenever anything arrives.

Their capital has little electricity and less potable water. Four out of five people live in abject poverty. Even if Mugabe left at this point, people will start dying in droves very soon -- those who stay, anyway. Millions have fled Zimbabwe, and millions more have packed their bags. There may be no one left to challenge Mugabe for power.

What have the African nations done about this disaster? Typically, nothing. They just held a conference where the leaders of Zimbabwe's neighbors applauded and feted Mugabe, even while talking sotto voce about the need for change. The Southern African Development Community has shown themselves to be cowards in confronting one of the most incompetent dictators on that or any other continent, apparently content to see Zimbabwe's people starve as opposed to confronting Mugabe.

If nothing changes in the immediate future, the once self-sufficient Zimbabwe will descend into the madness of tribal warfare and genocide, much like the Democratic Republic of the Congo did as Zaire. We will then hear plenty from activists, demanding interventions and UN peacekeeping missions, likely from the same neighbors who refused to lift a finger to stop Mugabe over the last several years, and even applauded him at the SADC. Famines will roll across the productive land, and Western television will be filled with advertisements begging for relief for the afflicted population.

Africa, unfortunately, is a constant re-run. At some point, we're going to have to insist that Africans deal with Africa. .

Did you read this and weep.  Good.

Now get angry.  Very angry.  Where are the organizations that exist to prevent this very thing from happening?

Where are the neighboring African states?  Why do they look the other way?  Are they ignoring Zimbabwe because some of them fear that the scrutiny won't stop at just one country's borders?

Where is the UN?  Are they ignoring Zimbabwe because.......y'know what, never mind.  What in hell does the UN do effectively ANYWHERE, let alone Zimbabwe?  If there is a more useless organization today let me know.

And where are the countries that know full well how to attack the USA for deposing the taliban and saddam hussein, but are feckless and clueless when it comes to preventing the holocaust in Zimbabwe that is occurring in front of their eyes - not to mention Darfur and Rwanda, etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum, ad nauseam.

You don't like how the USA tries to save countries from lunatic extremists and mass murderers?  Fine, then show us a list of countries which do more good in more places, and take less from them..  I'll wait.  And it will be a long one.

RANDOM THOUGHTS

Ken Berwitz

In no particular order.........

-Chris Mouthews (yeah, I know his real name is Matthews) has become an object of derision and even hatred to the LAMB crowd.  Why?  Because instead of attacking Bush and Republicans all the time, he attacks them maybe 80 - 85% of the time.  That makes him A "Republican lover" to the LAMBs.   On crooksandliars.com some of the regulars have taken to calling him "tweety", which I think is a derisive reference to the way he looks and the pitch of his voice.  They really are haters over there.

-Nine coal miners are apparently dead in Utah.  Six are almost certainly dead from the initial incident and then three rescue workers were killed while trying to get to them.  If ever there was a time NOT to politicize mining, this has to be it.  Can't it wait for a couple of weeks, until they have found the 6 who are missing?  Isn't that the most basic common decency?

-If Fred Thompson wants to be a player in 2008 he better stop doing a Mario Cuomo imitation - that is, he better stop making sounds like he is in the race as weeks and weeks go by without him actually taking the plunge.  Whatever ardor there was for a Thompson candidacy is going to wither every day unless and until he does.

-My wife pulls this on me all the time.  I'll make a sandwich, say a white fish salad sandwich on a bialy (we're talking today's lunch).  Then I will take a bite or two, and some of the white fish salad will hang out the opposite side, which means if I go there next I will get the full regular bite and big glob of extra white fish salad - the best!!  But at that moment my wife will always - and I do mean always - say "can I have a bite?" and invariably zero in on the glob.  What's more, she doesn't leave even a hint of it;  she may be a small person but she bites like a barracuda after a hunger strike.  So all the good stuff is gone.  But I admit that she compensates by being really good, even after all these years, at........er, never mind.

-Is John Edwards' campaign about to completely implode?  What's holding this guy up other than decent numbers in one state's polling?  Now, to make things even worse, his wife - who seems to be his personal apologist - is whining that he can't compete because he's not female or Black.  Hello, anyone home?  Those are things that are supposed to HURT you, remember?  The only good thing about this candidacy is that while the human oil slick is campaigning he isn't suing doctors and hospitals.

-Joba Chamberlain is the most exciting Yankee pitcher I've seen since Mariano Rivera came up over a decade ago.  His fastball hovers in the 97 - 100MPH range and, unlike most flamethrowers, he has terrific control over its location.  Not only that, but he has as nasty a slider as I've ever seen.  It runs around 90MPH, is belt high halfway to the plate which compels the batter to swing, but winds up at ground level which means the batter misses it by a foot.  God would have trouble batting .300 against this guy.  And he's only 21.

-Eight months after his stroke, Senator Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota) still appears to be unable to assume his duties. With the greatest of respect to Mr. Johnson - and I do have every bit that much respect for him, he's a good man - it's time to relinquish the senate seat so that South Dakota has full representation again, even if it means a Republican takes his place.  Maybe the state can hold a special election in November.  I don't know if that's legally feasible but, if it is, the people rather than the Governor would then select a replacement for Johnson's last year.  That sounds pretty fair to me.

-The Cross Bronx Expressway stinks.

SWEETNESS-LIGHT.COM ON THE NEWARK SLAYINGS

Ken Berwitz

Have you noticed that the horrific killings of three young college students in Newark and almost-killing of a fourth who, by pure luck, survived the assassination, are just about gone from the news now - at least as a major story?

Hey, that makes sense.  It was only four decent young people, not involved with drugs or gangs or crime, who were massacred by a number of subhuman "people" involved in all three - and were illegal aliens to boot.  Nothing to see here. Move along, sheeple.

Well,  maybe we shouldn't move a long.  The always-worth-reading website, www.sweetness-light.com, has copied an article from the Washington Post about this heartbreaking crime and commented on it.  Here is what they have on their website:.

Two More Illegal Aliens Arrested Newark Slayings

August 19th, 2007

From a shocked Washington Post:

Local Arrests in Newark Slayings

Man, Found in Md., Is Called Ringleader

By Daniela Deane and Matt Zapotosky
Sunday, August 19, 2007; A01

A key suspect in the brutal killings of three college students in Newark was arrested early yesterday in Oxon Hill, where authorities found the 24-year-old Nicaraguan man among a group drinking beer and getting tattooed in a filthy apartment furnished with little more than mattresses on the floor.

Twenty minutes later, police arrested his 16-year-old half brother in the basement of a Woodbridge townhouse as the intense manhunt in the execution-style killings moved to the Washington immigrant community, authorities said.

Authorities said the suspects Rodolfo Godinez and the teenager, who is not being identified because he is to be charged as a juvenile were arrested on fugitive warrants for their involvement in the grisly Aug. 4 killings.

Godinez is believed to be a ringleader in the killings that shocked Newark and the rest of the nation with their incomprehensible brutality, authorities said. Police have said the students were forced to kneel against a wall behind an elementary school before being shot in the head. Cellphones and jewelry were taken from them, and two were slashed in the face with either a knife or a machete.

Although authorities in New Jersey have said they have found no gang link to the killings, a witness to Godinezs arrest said the man talked about being in MS-13, a notorious gang with roots in El Salvador that operates in a handful of metropolitan areas across the United States, including the Washington region. And law enforcement sources in the Washington area said they believe there is a possibility of gang involvement in the killings.

The men are wanted in connection with the killings of Terrance Aeriel, 18, and Dashon Harvey and Iofemi Hightower, both 20. Aeriels sister, Natasha, 19, was shot in the head in the attack but survived. The Aeriels and Harvey were students at Delaware State University, and Hightower planned to enroll there this fall.

Godinez was arrested at Riverside Plaza apartments on Oxon Hill Road by about a dozen officers from federal, state and local agencies, said Robert Fernandez, commander of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, who participated in the arrest.

Fernandez said 10 Hispanic males were in the three-bedroom, two-bath apartment when officers stormed in, guns drawn. He said the apartment had almost no furniture besides a torn-up couch, a small TV on a milk crate and a bunch of mattresses on the floor. He said the apartment, which he described as dirty with clothes thrown everywhere, looked vacant.

There was a tattoo gun on the kitchen counter with some ink spilled around it, Fernandez said. He said that one of the men had a half-finished tattoo but that it was unclear what the men were tattooing on one another

A man who was in the apartment at the time of the arrest said that Godinez and a friend had shown up about 11 a.m. Thursday and that Godinez was drinking beer and tattooing some of the other men.

The man said Godinez talked about being a member of MS-13.

He said that when police took Godinez away, he yelled, MS-13 forever. Police could not confirm the report.

Godinezs half brother was arrested shortly afterward in the basement of a townhouse on Grist Mill Terrace in Woodbridge, police said. Prince William County police said three other Hispanic men were also arrested in the Woodbridge raid and charged with obstruction of justice for giving false information to detectives

Godinez has been charged with three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, four counts of robbery, two weapons counts and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, said Carolyn Murray, an Essex County, N.J., assistant prosecutor. The 16-year-old will initially be charged as a juvenile with similar crimes, she said

Godinez is being held in the Prince Georges County jail, and his half brother is at the Prince William jail pending extradition to New Jersey, authorities said

Fernandez said authorities identified the half brothers as being involved in the case after three arrests were made in Newark

Godinez was arrested in 2002 after an alleged robbery and stabbing outside an Irvington, N.J., bar. He was charged with aggravated assault and robbery, then jumped his $50,000 bail, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Essex County sheriffs officers did not find him and stopped looking in 2005, when a woman who answered his phone said he had left the country, Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura told the newspaper.

Of course the article does not mention whether they are in the US legally or not. They only speak of the Washington immigrant community.

So it is a certainty they are illegal aliens.

And of course they are still in this country even after committing crimes and jumping bail.

Essex County sheriffs officers did not find him and stopped looking in 2005, when a woman who answered his phone said he had left the country

How convenient. Yet another advantage illegals have over the citizenry.

And how interesting it is that we are finally hearing mention of MS-13?

Funny how that has not been brought up before.  .

Too bad these kids weren't into gangsta rap.  Then shwrpton and jackson and the rest of the "is there a buck in it for me" crowd would be all over this.

We live in a very sick society these days.  And stories like this are the symptoms.

THREAT LEVELS

Ken Berwitz

My sister just e-mailed this to me.  It is stereotypical, unfair.....and funny as hell.  But somewhere in there it also makes a pretty important point, so I'm passing it along to you:.

Subject: Threat levels

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have recently raised their security level from 'Miffed' to 'Peeved'. Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to 'Irritated' or even 'A Bit Cross'.  Londoners have not been 'A Bit Cross' since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but ran out.

Terrorists have been re-categorized from 'Tiresome' to a 'Bloody Nuisance'. The last time the British issued a 'Bloody Nuisance' warning level was during the great fire of 1666.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from 'Run' to 'Hide'. The only two higher levels in France are 'Surrender' and 'Collaborate'. The rise was precipitated by a recent fire, which destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralysing the country's military capability.

It's not only the English and French that are on a heightened level of alert.

Italy has increased the alert level from 'Shout Loudly and Excitedly' to 'Elaborate Military Posturing'. Two more levels remain: 'Ineffective Combat Operations' and 'Change Sides'.

The Germans also increased their alert state from 'Disdainful Arrogance' to 'Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs'. They also have two higher levels: 'Invade a Neighbour' and 'Lose.'

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual, and the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old ones.
.

It's funny, isn't it?

But it really does make a point too.  The point is that other than a few countries to a far less significant degree, the USA is what is standing in the way of muslim fanatics taking over this world and instituting shari'a law.

Who will stop them other than us?  The UN, which can't even stop genocides committed with nothing more than machetes in places like Darfur?  Belgium, which postures itself as some kind of word arbiter of right and wrong as it conveniently forgets its military nonexistence, and its despicable actions in places like the Congo and Somalia?

France????????????????????????  Spain??????????????????????

So let's all have a good laugh at that funny little piece.  But let's also temper it with the dose of truth that it provides.

BARACK OBAMA - NO DEBATE IS GOOD DEBATE

Ken Berwitz

After a succession of comments that ranged from naive to stupid to accusatory towards our own troops, Barack Obama has decided that, maybe, the best thing to do is not be in a position where people will hear him make such statements.

Does that mean he's dropping out of the race because he is so hopelessly underqualified?  Does that mean he is going to take a few weeks off to try as best he can to learn what he is talking about instead of just talking?  No and no.  Here's what it means, courtesy of Marc Ambinder at The Atlantic:.

Enough's Enough: Obama Will Limit Forum/Debate Participation

18 Aug 2007 10:52 am

Frustrated with the volume of interest group forums and non-party sponsored debates, Sen. Barack Obama's campaign manager has put his foot down: Obama won't attend any more debates that aren't sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee, and he won't accept any more invitations to speak at candidate forums.

In a memo the campaign will post on its website shortly, campaign manager David Plouffe writes that Obama has already spoken at 19 different candidate forums and has participated in seven full debates and is committed to attending a total of fifteen debates.

"Unfortunately, we simply cannot run the kind of campaign we want and need to, engaging with voters in the early states and February 5, if our schedule is dictated by dozens of forums and debates," Plouffe writes. "Ultimately, the one group left out of the current schedule is the voters and they are the ones who ask the toughest questions and most deserve to have those questions answered face to face."  .

There you have it.  Barack Obama's answer:  If you don't know what you're talking about and what you say is making you sound like what you are - not ready to run for president and not real fast on your feet when you speak extemporaneously - then, whenever you can get away with it, don't let 'em hear you at all.

Concentrate only on the scripted events where you know the crowd will be on your side.  Yeah, that's the ticket.  Just like being president in the real wor....er, never mind.

That's some presidential candidate.  Hillary must have a smile from Chappaqua to Little Rock.
