Have you seen the picture of one of Rosie O'Donnell's children - pre-teen, from the looks of her, though I don't know for sure - dressed in a camouflage outfit, with ammunition hanging from her shoulder?

If your neighbor ever dressed a child this way and photographed her, you'd consider bringing the neighbor up on abuse charges.  Yet there it is, on rosie o'donnell's own site.(see it for yourself below, or at

I saw this astonishing, appalling picture a day ago.  I didn't post it at that time because I could not believe a rational parent, especially an anti-war activist like o'donnell, would ever allow her child to be seen this way.  I thought it had to be some kind of sick prank, something a hacker snuck onto Ms. o'donnell's website.  I assumed it would be off soon enough with a statement of outrage that anyone could be so cruel.

But today is a new day, and it is STILL on her website, complete with her comments to people who are asking about it.  So I conclude that it must be for real.

What in the world do you make of this?  And what in the world rattles around in that head of hers?

Yes, Paris Hilton is out of jail and yes, the media frenzy would have been impressive even for V-E Day.

I have been amused by the commentary about Ms. Hilton by Bernard Goldberg, erstwhile CBS correspondent who became less appealing to the network as he became more politically conservative.  I don't think Mr. Goldberg has a personal animus towards Paris Hilton, but he clearly is incensed that someone who is so completely inconsequential has gotten this level of media attention.

On, I think, Monday, he reacted to her being called an "icon", by suggesting that she is not an icon if you have an IQ "above room temperature".  Is that nasty?  Yep, sure. Is it a biting way of bringing home his point?  Yep, sure?  How should we feel about what he said?  Personally, I smiled when I typed this out.

The serious part of Paris Hilton has nothing to do with her per se.  The serious part is that when we occupy our minds with celebrity airheads we are NOT occupying our minds with the things of value and importance that affect us.  And while I do not at all object to mindless release, when it is presented as a daily saga it ascends in status to a level that anyone with a functioning cerebrum should be ashamed to give it.

Al News is a business. Business is about making money. As long as Paris brings in the bucks, they'll keep giving her the media attention she craves. (06/27/07)

Earlier today I blogged about Elizabeth Edwards' maudlin intercession for her (apparently too weak to do it himself) husband John, the human oil slick.  She boo-hooed that Ann Coulter wasn't nice (which is certainly true and then some, but why is John's wife the one making this call?).

Was this a sincere, plaintive cry?  A voice calling out for simple decency and humanity?

In answer, read this from today's edition of The Hill:

Edwards camp again turns to cash cow Coulter

June 27, 2007

With the second quarter drawing to a close, the presidential campaign of former North Carolina senator John Edwards (D) on Wedlesday again turned to one of its most reliable "fundraisers", Ann Coulter.

In an e-mail to supporters, Edwards wife Elizabeth described why she called in to MSNBCs Hardball Tuesday. The show featured the conservative pundit, who has often attacked Edwards.

This week Coulter proclaimed If Im going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.

Elizabeth Edwards said she decided to call the show to appeal to Coulter to stop the attacks.

I told her these kinds of personal attacks lower our political dialogue at precisely the time when we need to raise it, and set a bad example for our children, she said. How did she respond? Sadly, perhaps predictably, with more personal attacks.

The e-mail is coupled with an appeal for campaign donations.

Please give what you can right now to help raise the dialogue and show that Ann Coulter-style politics will never carry the day, Mrs. Edwards wrote.

That is just breathtaking.  Ms. Edwards' outrage and hurt was so "sincere" that within a day, it was turned into a FUNDRAISER.

No wonder the human oil slick himself wasn't in on the call.  He was probably too busy writing the, letter.

These people are to sincerity what Paris Hilton is to a vow of poverty.

You want comic relief?  You want mindless fun and games?  Who needs Paris Hilton when you have Nancy Pelosi-Ricardo?

Not for nothing has she earned the last-last name of Ricardo.  Nancy does things that Lucy would be green with envy over, even her hair.

Pelosi's Green House

By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Tuesday, June 26, 2007 4:20 PM PT

Environmentalism: At a time when mercury is being removed from public use as a toxic hazard, the speaker of the House wants to expand its use. How many Democrats does it take to change a light bulb?

Nancy Pelosi wants to lead by example, at least on the environment. Al Gore and John Edwards might live in energy-guzzling abodes, but the House of Representatives is going to be carbon-neutral by the end of the 110th Congress.

Last week Pelosi announced that, as part of her "Greening of the Capitol" initiative, the House would replace its coal-fired plant with one using natural gas. Never mind that she won't let us exploit the trillions of cubic feet of the stuff locked up within the U.S. and in the Outer Continental Shelf.

The House would also purchase carbon offsets from an outfit called the Chicago Climate Exchange. Carbon offsets are scams that allow gluttonous energy consumers like Gore to ease their conscience while doing absolutely nothing to curb their own energy use.

You buy a carbon offset, giving money to people who will do something like plant trees in Zimbabwe, which supposedly will reduce or absorb carbon emissions by an equivalent amount. You are then declared "carbon-neutral" while you continue to pollute.

Pelosi also pledged to cut back on electricity use, and one of the ways is to replace incandescent bulbs in the House with the latest environmental gadget, the compact fluorescent light, or CFL.

A 20-watt CFL emits as much light as a 100-watt incandescent bulb. But, unlike Thomas Edison's creation, each CFL contains about 5 milligrams of mercury.

On New Year's Eve, you could have confused the town of Carmel, N.Y., with Chernobyl when a reported 100 firefighters, many in hazmat suits, responded to a 911 call regarding a broken rectal thermometer.

Brandy Bridges of Prospect, Maine, found out firsthand what can happen when a CFL bulb breaks. She had bought about two dozen of them to install throughout her house. When the one she was putting in the ceiling fixture of her daughter's bedroom broke, she called the store where she bought it, concerned about the mercury that spilled out.

A month after her call, her daughter's bedroom was taped off as she was pondering a $2,000 estimate to clean up what was now, in effect, a Superfund site.

Mercury is considered by the greenies to be among the most toxic of toxic substances and, yes, it is dangerous if ingested or handled over time. We've been warned that high concentrations in fish are dangerous to pregnant women. We have been told mercury in vaccines causes autism. So it's safe in light bulbs?

We wonder if the Capitol will be evacuated when the first CFL bulb in the environmentally friendly House of Representatives breaks. And why, if mercury is such a danger, does Nancy Pelosi want to fill the House with it?.

What can you say?  If this were the 50's and CBS had a half hour slot open, she'd be a shoo-in. Instead of  "I Love Lucy" they would have called the show "I Legislate Loonily"

It's nice to see IBD mentioning this, though.  Did you see it on the network news?  The Today show?  The NY or LA Times?

Simply stated, the nuttier Nancy Pelosi-Ricardo gets the less press she generates.  One day she's going to do something really commendable, and I'll bet media will report it so heavily that you'll think she was..........Paris Hilton.

They say you don't understand the other guy until you walk a mile in his shoes.

If this is true, Lebanon has recently become an ersatz Jewish state.  Let me explain by showing you this AP dispatch as published in the Jerusalem Post:.

'Syria arming Palestinian camps'

Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora said Wednesday that Syria was sending weapons to Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and vowed to bring up the issue before the Arab League.

"In recent weeks, ammunition, weapons and fighters have been brought to the camps," Saniora told reporters on a visit to France.

Saniora added that he had asked the United Nations to renew the mandate of international peacekeepers in his country, despite an attack last weekend that killed six members of the force.

"I am in no position to tell now" who was behind the Sunday car bombing in southern Lebanon that killed three Spaniards and three Colombians, Saniora told a news conference, adding that the investigation was continuing.

"I think the whole world is looking at this seriously. This is an affront against the international community, against security and stability in Lebanon," he said.

Saniora said he was talking to every member country of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, and was hearing an "unequivocal commitment."

He said he has asked UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to renew the UNIFIL mandate, which expires at the end of August. The 13,000-member force from 30 countries, deployed nearly a year ago, is to implement a UN Security Council resolution that ended the 34-day war last summer between Israel and the Syrian and Iranian-backed Hizbullah. UNIFIL's job also includes creating an area free of weapons in southern Lebanon and bringing peace to the Lebanon-Israel border.

The visiting Lebanese prime minister was meeting Wednesday with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner. He met Tuesday with President Nicolas Sarkozy and with visiting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

France is trying to organize a conference on the Lebanese conflict bringing together representatives of various parties involved, and Saniora said he supported it. However, he held out scant hope that such an initiative could bring peace, saying that the "first goal" of such a conference was, above all, "to break the ice."

Lebanon is facing its most serious political crisis since the end of the 1975-90 civil war. Saniora's Western-backed government and the Hizbullah-led opposition are locked in a fierce power struggle.

Rival Lebanese politicians have not met since a national dialogue conference ended last year without agreement.

Paris has had some difficulties in arranging the conference. An initial end-of-June date was extended to mid-July, but neither the French Foreign Ministry nor the Lebanese prime minister has been able to pinpoint a date.

Saniora said that a proposal for a meeting by the Arab League has hampered putting together a Paris conference. The French proposal came first, the prime minister said, and "the climate is favorable to moving forward with the French proposal."

Dialogue is the only way to resolve Lebanon's problems, Saniora said.

"We want Lebanon to be a nation, not a battlefield." .

It's not fun when a foreign government rejects your administration, arms the enemies who live among you, and then sits back as those enemies fight and kill your people.

I don't blame Prime Minister Saniora for being unhappy with this and wanting it to stop, nor do I blame him for clinging to the unlikely premise that it can be solved through dialogue, even though the people causing the problem would rather fight.  You want to believe that things can work out nonviolently even if you probably know better.

Simply stated, Mr. Saniora now knows what it is like to be an Israeli leader.  Without ever leaving Lebanon.  Imagine that.

Of course the situations do have a few differences.  For example, I don't think Israeli Prime Minister Olmert is going to be appealing to the Arab league any time soon...............

Radical islam intends to take over the world and recreate it as a shari'a entity.

Its first order of business, of course is Jews.  The faster Jews are eradicated from existence the better this bunch - and their combination of willing complicitors and silent opponents (another term for tacit complicitors) will be happy.

But, to revise and extend from the famous statement of Pastor Martin Niemoller***, when they're finished with the Jews, they are coming after the next group.  And if you doubt this for a minute, please read the following Associated Press report from Gaza:..

For Gaza's Christians, new reality unsettling
Hamas vows to protect them after convent, school are attacked, but some still want to leave
Associated Press

GAZA CITY, GAZA STRIP Broken crucifixes and shards from a statue of Jesus Christ have been swept up, but Gaza's tiny Christian community says the violent warning sent by Islamic militants cannot be erased.

The ransacking of a Catholic convent and adjacent Rosary Sisters school during Hamas' sweep to power broke more than wood and plaster. It signaled the end of a peaceful, if sometimes uneasy, relationship between Gaza's 1.4 million Muslims and 3,000 Christians.

Despite promises of protection by Hamas leaders, Christians fear more attacks, and some say they want to leave. Gaza's flock already has been hit hard by emigration in recent years, and a new exodus could remove what is left of one of the Arab world's oldest Christian communities.

"We don't trust them. Our time is coming," said a Greek Orthodox Christian, who in the current climate of fear asked not to be identified.

No one has claimed responsibility for damaging the convent and school, and Hamas vehemently denied involvement.

However, signs point to Muslim extremists rather than ordinary vandals. A statue and picture of the Virgin Mary who is held in high esteem by Muslims were left untouched.

At a Tuesday meeting with a priest, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was fired as prime minister by President Mahmoud Abbas after Hamas seized control in Gaza, promised to find the perpetrators. However, he played down the attack, referring only to damage to the school, not the convent.

The assailants struck toward the end of Hamas' five-day battle with rival Fatah forces loyal to Abbas. The damage was discovered June 15.

The school's administrative computers and laptops were stolen. Deputy school Principal Hanadi Missak said Hamas officials returned the stolen computers, but didn't explain where they found them.

Missak suggested the vandals were acting on their own.

Other Christians blame Hamas at the least for not preventing the destruction. The attack marked a watershed for Gaza's Christians, crushing the belief that a shared identity as Palestinians would override Muslim-Christian differences.

Christians have held a unique place in Gaza's society as respected members of the territory's small elite, running schools, hospitals and businesses.

There haven't been any attacks on Christians since the ransacking, but many said they fear it's just a matter of time.

"Many say the easiest thing is to migrate if they can't feel safe," said Bernard Sabella, a researcher who has conducted surveys among Palestinian Christians. "But if we all leave, what is left for the nation?"   .

This is nothing new, either.  In Bethlehem, most Christians have either fled or are scared to move or breathe the wrong way - again, because they are under siege by radical islam.  I don't know their names, but this has to be happening in other towns and villages throughout Judea and Samaria (the west bank) for exactly the same reason.

The religious persecution described above is a canary in the coal mine for the USA and all of western civilization.  If we pay attention we have a chance to stop it from happening here.  If we say "well, it happened in Gaza and Bethlehem and those other places, but WE'RE ok, aren't we?" and go back to Paris Hilton and American Idol, we are lost and don't even know it.

*** It is always good to remind ourselves of Niemoller's gut-wrenching poem of truth:

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Here is the Los Angeles Times' article on immigration and amnesty.  Please note how neutral its tone is (as you do, please also look for Shrek and donkey to come to your house selling magazine subscriptions, because that's about as likely as finding neutrality in this article).

Instead of going straight to the Times' site, I have pulled this from , because you might be interested to see their opinion at the bottom of the piece.  I thought it was well worth reading:.

Immigration bill ignites grass-roots fire

The conservative group NumbersUSA has seen its numbers skyrocket. Activists pressure wavering senators.

By Nicole Gaouette, Times Staff Writer
June 24, 2007

ROSSLYN, VA. When Kim Wade pulled up in front of the Jackson, Miss., offices of Republican Sen. Trent Lott, a crowd was already waiting. They were students, professionals and homemakers, all members of the immigration-restriction advocacy group NumbersUSA. And they were all there to blast Lott for his support of the Senate immigration bill.

They delivered petitions bearing nearly 3,000 signatures, part of a multipronged campaign, imploring Lott not to sell out Mississippi to illegal aliens. The office secretary could barely receive them because the phones were ringing off the hook with calls protesting Lotts immigration stance, said Wade, a local talk-radio host.

TV, radio and Internet ads condemning Lott had been running for days before the Tuesday visit. By Friday, 1,000 more people had signed the NumbersUSA petition online.

Conservative anger at the Senate immigration bill is at such a pitch that even Republican lawmakers are feeling the heat. Groups like NumbersUSA have been channeling that grass-roots fury and, in doing so, have leaped in size and are playing a larger role in the immigration debate than ever before.

At NumbersUSA, one of the largest and loudest, membership is up 81% since January and donations are soaring. With the immigration bill possibly set to pass or fail in the Senate this week a crucial vote could come as early as Tuesday the nonprofit group plans a fierce campaign against the bill and any senator who supports it.

The group will unveil TV ads against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-N.C.). Another ad will target Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
NumbersUSA President Roy Beck expects to contact the groups activist members who he says now number 419,000 with dozens of e-mail alerts, many of which he sends at 2 and 3 a.m.
Were in a war zone right now, so were drawing down the reserves, said Beck, who describes his battle against pro-bill groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as an amazing David-and-Goliath thing.

Most polls show that though Americans are concerned about border security, a majority favor finding a way to allow most now in the country illegally to gain legal status.

Throughout the immigration debate, senators who back the bill have decried the influence of talk radio, saying it misrepresents the legislation. These lawmakers vow they wont buckle but admit theyre feeling pressure

When has the Los Angeles Times ever run a story about (Communist front) International ANSWER and its demands for amnesty and other illegal alien rights?

When has any of our watchdog media ever reported on the billions of dollars spent by leftwing groups such as to marshal their rent-a-mobs?

No, the efforts on the America-hating left are always grassroots movements, and by definition altruistic and pure.

Pay no attention to the mass-produced signs at any leftwing rally. Pay no attention to their buses. Their lunches. The $40 a head cash payments to the demonstrators unless they are their at the behest of their union bosses.

No. The citizenrys rejection of the amnesty bill is all the work of a few rightwing special interest groups and of course rightwing talk radio.

(I myself was all for amnesty until NumbersUSA took my willpower away.)

For the truth of the matter is Americans love illegal aliens and want even more of them. The polls tell us so every day.

And we know that our watchdog media would never lie to us about polls. .

Here, also from, is a statement concerning immigration legislation from Ted Kennedy.  Read it carefully, see if you believe his position.  Then, at the end, read the date when he said it.  If this doesn't make you feel like he thinks you're Charlie Brown and he's Lucy with the football, I give up:

Out of deference to the critics, I want to comment on what the bill will not do. First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset Contrary to the charges in some quarters, S.500 will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and economically deprived nations of Africa and Asia. In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think. Thirdly, the bill will not permit the entry of subversive persons, criminals, illiterates, or those with contagious disease or serious mental illness. As I noted a moment ago, no immigrant visa will be issued to a person who is likely to become a public charge the charges I have mentioned are highly emotional, irrational, and with little foundation in fact. They are out of line with the obligations of responsible citizenship. They breed hate of our heritage. Senator Edward Kennedys remarks on the 1965 Immigration Act, February 10, 1965.

Ann Coulter troubles me, because she is so smart and so insightful about 70% of the time....but so disgusting and so over the top the other 30%.

This one falls somewhere in between.  Here is the relevant article, courtesy of the Associated Press, and then I'll explain:.

Ms. Edwards Asks Coulter to Stop Attacks

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

(06-27) 09:25 PDT Raleigh, N.C. (AP) --

Elizabeth Edwards pleaded Tuesday with Ann Coulter to "stop the personal attacks," a day after the conservative commentator said she wished Edwards' husband, Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, had been killed by terrorists.

"The things she has said over the years, not just about John but about other candidates, lowers the political dialogue at precisely the time we need to raise it," Edwards said by phone on MSNBC's "Hardball" program, where Coulter was a guest.

Elizabeth Edwards said she did not consult her husband before confronting Coulter on the air, adding that she felt the pundit's remarks were "a dialogue on hatefulness and ugliness."

"It debases political dialogue," Edwards said. "It drives people away from the process. We can't have a debate about issues if you're using this kind of language."

Coulter responded with a laugh and charged that Edwards was calling on her to stop speaking altogether. She questioned why Elizabeth Edwards was making a phone call on behalf of her husband, and she criticized John Edwards for "stealing doctors' money" during his successful career as a trial lawyer.

"I don't think I need to be told to stop writing by Elizabeth Edwards, thank you," Coulter said.

On ABC's "Good Morning America" on Monday, Coulter was asked about a March speech in which she used a gay slur to refer to Edwards.

"If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot," Coulter said Monday, picking up on remarks made by HBO's Bill Maher. Maher suggested in March that "people wouldn't be dying needlessly" if Vice President Dick Cheney had been killed in an insurgent attack in Afghanistan. .

First, a few observations:

-Chris mouthews, who obviously hates Ms. Coulter, set this up and allowed the ambush by Ms. Edwards.  The best thing I can say about mouthews is that he at least had her on, which keith olbermann would never do in 100 years;

-Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I consider it pretty unseemly for John Edwards' wife to call the show and plead for Ms. Coulter to lay off her husband.  Is he not capable of defending himself?  Would she come running to protect poor John from ahmadinejad or hugo chavez too?

-As regulars to this site know, I was outraged by Ms, Coulter's gay reference when she made it and I blogged about her comment under the heading "Ann Coulter's Disgusting Mouth".  Therefore I am 100% ok with condemning Ann Coulter, when I think she earns the condemnation.

Now to this specific incident.  What was it that Coulter said?  It was "If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot".

That's awful, isn't it?  Except for one thing:  As the AP points out, it is a play on what Bill Maher said about the Vice President of the United States.  That's right, Bill Maher, on Equal Time, said that lives would have been saved if Dick Cheney had been killed in an insurgent attack.

And when did Bill Maher say that?  Just in the last day or two, so we have to wait to see if media will go after him the way they are going after Ann Coulter?  Well, no;  Maher said that THREE MONTHS AGO.  And, relatively speaking, the media silence was deafening.

Try though I might, I can't recall Lynn Cheney calling HBO to plead with Maher to stop picking on poor Dick.

So, to summarize, Bill Maher made a sick comment that advocated killing the Vice President of the United States and media collectively yawned.  Three months later, Ann Coulter plays off of Maher's sickness to make a similar comment about a presidential candidate, and it is of nuclear importance in those same media, it is all over the news.

Does this show blatant bias?  An obvious double standard?  You tell me.
