Ken Berwitz

As you are probably aware, Alec Baldwin telephoned his pre-teen daughter last week and attacked her in a way that no child should ever be subjected to, regardless of what she may have done to anger him.

Baldwin was absolutely reamed for doing so, even by media that usually suck up to him.  His attack on an 11 or 12 year old (Baldwin couldn't say for sure, it was only his daughter) was too much; they couldn't look the other way or gloss it over.

The only person I heard who had any sympathy for his bitter, profane unbelievably insulting tirade, was Rosie O'Donnell.  Ms. O'Donnell assured her audience on The View that she also cursed at her children.  And a large number of them applauded when she said this, proving that at least some of The View's audience will support child abuse if their heroine Rosie engages in it.  Unbelievable, but true.

Now, after a week of being battered by media for attacking his own child, Baldwin has decided to show some contrition.  Is it sincere or PR-driven?  I don't know for sure.  But I know he waited a week to do it, and that doesn't move my opinion to the sincere side.

Anyway, Baldwin decided the appropriate forum for his apology would be a one on one interview.  So who does he choose to conduct it? Rosie O'Donnell!  The human sick joke who said she did the same thing to HER children.

Now we get to the apology itself.  I heard an advance tape of it.  Baldwin says that he apologizes "to anyone who may have been offended".

Does that sound like an apology to you?

If I do something wrong, I say "I'm sorry.  I don't say "I'm sorry if YOU think I should be. But if you don't, I retract the apology, I'm not sorry anymore"  That isn't an apology, it's a strategy.

Just for the record, let me remind you of what this now-you-see-it-now-you-don't apology was for.  Here, in its entirety, is what Alec Baldwin said to his pre-teen daughter - most of it either in a raised voice or screaming.  The bold print is mine:-

"You have insulted me for the last time.  You have insulted me.  You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being, I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned.

You have humiliated me for the last time on this phone.  When I come out there next week, I'm gonna fly out there for the day, just to straighten you out on this issue.  I'm gonna let you know just how disappointed I am and just how angry I am with you that you've done this to me again

You've made me feel like shit, and you've made me feel like a fool over and over and over...again.  And this crap you pull on me, with this goddamn phone situation, that you would never dream of doing to your mother, you do it constantly to me and over and over again.

I'm gonna get on a plane, and I'm gonna go out there for a day, and I'm gonna straighten your ass out when I see you, understand me?  I'm gonna really make sure you get it.  Then I'm gonna get on a plane, I'm gonna turn around and come home.

So you better be ready, Friday, the 20th, to meet with me, so I'm gonna let you know just how I feel about what a rude little pig you really are.

You are a rude, thoughtless little pig.  Okay?-

This is what he couldn't just come out and apologize for?  This is what he waited a week to apologize for, and then did so conditionally?  Some things speak for themselves.

Finally, in the O'Donnell interview Mr. Baldwin says that he would like to leave his hit show "30 Rock" and do charity work.  Very commendable.   But what area would he like to do this charity work in?

Are you sitting?  He wants to address.....parental alienation.

The man who tells his daughter she has no brains or decency and is a thoughtless little pig wants to tell YOU how to avoid alienating your children.

I have to stop now.  I think I need a drink.  Make it a double.

UPDATE:  I apologize (a real one, not a Baldwinian one).  I forgot that, before his half baked apology was taped for tomorrow's edition of The View, Baldwin "apologized" on his website.  Here is his "apology" (one look will tell you why I am putting the word in quotations):

"I have endured a great deal over the last several years in my custody litigation. Everyone who knows me privately knows that certain people will go to any lengths to embarrass me and to disrupt my relationship with my daughter."

There you have it.  His "apology"...which accuses his wife and apparently his daughter of causing what he is apologizing for.  What poignancy.  What emotion.

What BS.

Y'know what?  Make that drink a triple.

barry sinrod Alec Baldwin appeared on the View today Friday April 27. All of you who immediately deemed him crazy, out of his mind, etc. should watch it today on AOL or on the internet. Two sides to every story. What he said was private and with about 99% assurance everyone has said similar things to our own kids at some time. It was wrong, but it was private and it was provoked by the very unstable Ms. Basinger. Watch it for the other side of the tabloid crap. (04/27/07)

Ken Berwitz I have two sons and, to tell you the truth, I don't recall ever telling them they had no brains, no decency and were thoughtless pigs. I doubt very much that Barry Sinrod ever said anything like that to his children either. Just because you like someone's politics does not - repeat not - excuse them when they abuse their children. And calling an 11 year old daughter those things is child abuse, plain and simple. (04/27/07)

This isn't earthshaking news, I suppose (although it almost certainly was at the time).  But it would be a crime to let it go unnoticed:  -

Navy's First Black Captain Dies
Navy News | April 24, 2007
Washington D.C. -- The Navys first black Sailor to be promoted to the rank of captain died April 16 in Norfolk.

Funeral services for retired Capt. Thomas David Parham will be held April 21, at 1 p.m. at the Little Creek Amphibious Base chapel. The Reverend Dr. Barry C. Black, U.S. Senate chaplain and retired U.S. Navy Chief of Chaplains will deliver the eulogy.

Parham, 87, was commissioned in 1944 and promoted to captain in February 1966. He was also the second black chaplain in the Navy.

Born March 21, 1920, in Newport News, Va., Parham earned a bachelors degree from North Carolina Central University in 1941. He then graduated magna cum laude from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1944, and was ordained by the United Presbyterian Church on May 17, 1944.

While five other members of his seminary class entered the Navy chaplaincy upon their graduation, Parham was told his application could not be accepted. He continued to work in a student pastorate in Youngstown, Ohio. Later that summer, he saw a newspaper photograph of a recently commissioned black chaplain. When he returned to the officer who had earlier rejected his application and asked why, he was told, We can take your application now.

His first duty assignments included Naval Training School, Hampton, Va.; Camp Smalls at Great Lakes, Ill.; Manana Barracks, Hawaii; and the Naval Supply Center, Guam; ministering to exclusively black units.

Parham left active duty in 1946 and returned to his ministry in Youngstown where he served as pastor from 1946 to 1950, while remaining in the Naval Reserve.
He returned to active duty in January 1951, soon after the outbreak of the Korean War. From 1951 to 1956, he was the only black chaplain on active duty.

After he had been given the impression that a black chaplain would never go to sea duty, he married Eulalee Marion Cordice on June 1, 1951.

Subsequently, when he was to be stationed on board USS Valley Forge (LPH-8), a captain complained to the Chaplains Division that Parham would be the only chaplain on the ship while the only black Sailors were a few stewards: The belief that black chaplains were only for black Sailors was predominant. Then Chief of Chaplains Stanton Salisbury published an article in the Christian Century stating that the Chaplains Division had no plans to give Parham any segregated duty, demonstrating the progress made in the Chaplains Division and in the Navy.

Parhams other duty stations included Charleston Navy Yard, S.C.; Fleet Activities Sasebo, Japan; Naval Air Station Iwakuni, Japan; Menninger Foundation, Topeka, Kan.; First Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; Amphibious Squadron 1 and Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, San Diego; Naval Air Station and Commander Fleet Air, Quonset Point, R.I.; Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington; Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Md.; and Chief, Pastoral Care Service, Naval Region Medical Center, Portsmouth, Va.

In 1969, he earned a Master of Divinity at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. At American University he received both a master's and a doctorate degree. Parham retired in April 1982.

Thank you sir.  Thank you for persisting, and allowing our country to catch up to what is fair.  Just as Mr. Robinson did in major league baseball.

Rest In Peace.

Randy "Duke" Cunningham was a Vietnam war hero who became a California congressperson and then, lamentably, became a thief.  He resigned from congress, pled guilty to bribery and is now serving jail time.

William Jefferson is a Louisiana congressman.  He, lamentably, is a thief as well. He is ON TAPE accepting bribes and when agents raided his home they found most of the money ($90,000) wrapped and hidden in his freezer.  He ran for congress again anyway, and the people in his district re-elected him.  He is currently a member "in good standing" in the US congress.  Incredibly, this thief sits on the BUDGET and WAYS AND MEANS committees.

No resignation in disgrace, no trial (at least not yet), and - significantly - no outcry from our "neutral" media that this thief is going on like nothing happened.

I don't have to ask what would happen if a Republican took bribes and neither do you.  I just showed you.

What is wrong with this picture?  And when does this country wake up to the fact that they are being played by a partisan media?

Here is an article from the eminently worthwhile site, on what a fraud Al Gore is.  Ditto for Laurie David and Sheryl Crow, who support his fraudulence.

Yeah, I know that you've seen me deconstruct all three in the past.  But this references a new article, in the latest Financial Times, about just how completely they are making buffoons of the poor well-intentioned saps who buy into their "carbon offsets" fraud.  Read it and see (most of the bold print is mine):-

Will Media Report Global Warming 'Carbon Credit' Fraud?

Posted by Noel Sheppard on April 25, 2007 - 22:54.

Its conceivable that years from now, Americas media will be reporting one of the biggest frauds in history: the idea that a wealthy person, for instance, soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore, can purchase carbon credits to offset his lavish lifestyle making him quote carbon neutral.

Given the medias love affair with the former vice president as well as advancing man-made global warming hysteria, few American press members have dared to expose this hoax for what it is.

However, on Wednesday, an impeccably reputable publication, the Financial Times, published an article that is a deliciously inconvenient truth for folks like Gore, Laurie David, Sheryl Crow, and all the rest of the alarmists that are actively involved in what years from now will be considered one of the biggest scams ever (emphasis added throughout):

Companies and individuals rushing to go green have been spending millions on "carbon credit" projects that yield few if any environmental benefits.

A Financial Times investigation has uncovered widespread failings in the new markets for greenhouse gases, suggesting some organisations are paying for emissions reductions that do not take place.

Others are meanwhile making big profits from carbon trading for very small expenditure and in some cases for clean-ups that they would have made anyway.

Yikes. Think Charlie, Brian, or Katie might report this anytime soon?

Regardless of the answer, FT outlined its findings:

■ Widespread instances of people and organisations buying worthless credits that do not yield any reductions in carbon emissions.

■ Industrial companies profiting from doing very little or from gaining carbon credits on the basis of efficiency gains from which they have already benefited substantially.

■ Brokers providing services of questionable or no value.

■ A shortage of verification, making it difficult for buyers to assess the true value of carbon credits.

■ Companies and individuals being charged over the odds for the private purchase of European Union carbon permits that have plummeted in value because they do not result in emissions cuts.

Amazing. Now, imagine for a moment that these companies were in either the oil, electricity, or healthcare industry committing such a fraud. Do you think this would be headline news?

If your answer is "Yes," why do you think this will be totally ignored?

I know; it's a rhetorical question. -

Daniel Patrick Moynihan, the American Cassandra (remind me to explain that in a future blog) coined the term "boob-baiting the bozos".  Think of Gore, David and Crow as doing the boob-baiting, and people who march in lock-step to that boob-baiting as the bozos.

Next thing you know, Crow will propose offsets for the toilet paper squares she doesn't use when she relieves herself.  Hey, maybe she can even donate the ones she does use to the environmental cause.  She can declare them fertilizer offsets.

My previous blog was about the first Black man ever promoted to Captain in the US Navy.  I felt he should be honored, at least in this blog, because almost no media would ever mention his passing.  He wasn't important enough to them.

Here, by contrast, is someone media consider so important that hardly a week goes by without our seeing/hearing his name:-

Snoop Dogg banned from Australia
Rapper Snoop Dogg has been banned from entering Australia after failing a character test, according to officials.

The star - real name Calvin Broadus - was due to co-host the MTV Australian Video Music Awards on Sunday.

The 35-year-old had his visa cancelled after recently pleading no contest to gun and drug charges in the US.

"He doesn't seem the sort of bloke we want in this country," Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews told Sydney's Macquarie Radio.

"This man has been a member of a Los Angeles gang, and is still associated with it apparently, that's been involved in murder, robberies and drug dealing in the LA area," Mr Andrews added.

Back in February, when Mr Broadus last visited Australia, immigration officials warned him then that he could face a ban if he got into anymore trouble.

The rapper now has 28 days to protest the decision.

Donald Etra, the rapper's Los Angeles-based lawyer, said he had not heard from his client about the visa cancellation and could not comment.

The decision follows a string of incidents that Mr Broadus has been involved in over the past year.

He was recently given five years probation and 800 hours of community service in the US after pleading no contest to gun and drug charges.

And last month he was forced to scrap his UK tour with fellow rapper P Diddy after authorities denied him a visa.

On a previous visit to the UK, the rapper and members of his entourage spent a night in jail after being accused of starting a fight at Heathrow Airport.

He was also held overnight by police in Sweden on suspicion of using drugs.

Let me know if you ever find a more pathetic commentary on what media tell us we should value.  Believe me, I won't be waiting up expecting you to come up with one.
