NOW They Expose Murtha?!!

Ken Berwitz

In "The Hopelessly Partisan Guide To American Politics" I talked about what an amoral scumbucket john murtha is.  Yesterday I blogged about it in more detail because Nancy Pelosi is supporting his bid to become speaker of the house.

This morning, the Today show did a major feature on just how corrupt murtha is -- complete with film of his ABSCAM comments to FBI plants (which earned him unindicted co-conspirator status) and a listout of his dirty dealings on defense contracts, including money tossed to his brother who is "in the business"

My question is, what part of this did NBC not know before they did the feature?  Damning information about murtha has been available for years.  The answer of course is that they knew every part of it.

This being the case, we come to the obvious next question:  If they knew about it, where the HELL were they before election day?

Murtha is one of the highest profile house members in this country,  because of the media attention he was given this year - almost all of it positive.  What generated this media love-in?  Murtha is the guy who demanded that we "redeploy" (cut and run) from  Iraq regardless of the situation we would leave there.  And also because he's the guy who called marines in Iraq "cold blooded murderers" before any legal action of any kind - you know, little things like for example a plea, a trial and a verdict.

I'm finding it very hard to conclude anything but that Today, and NBC in general along with the other networks, intentionally withheld this information until Democrats had a chance to win -- while they ran daily features on Republican scandals.  The idea is that if you show scandals on one side instead of both, people will believe the scandals are indigenous to one party, not both.  It then becomes a point of differentiation between the parties.

This is a textbook example of the media bias I talk about in the book.  It is sickening.

How sweet is the smell of Republican attacks against Democrats in the morning!

We haven't even taken charge yet and the Republicans are off to the races finding dirt on our people.  Hypocrites they are to the nth degree.

We all agreed before the election that corruption is everywhere, mostly on the right side. At least they are the ones that have been caught by there own people.

John Murtha served his country. None of the current administration did.
John Murtha is not perfect.
John Murtha did not have an affair with a "boy"
John Murtha did not leave his wife for a mistress when she was on her death bed.
John Murth is not perfect.
John Murtha not a white supremacist like Trent Lott who was re elected to his former post.
John Murtha has not been indicted on anything, he did not go to jail and he was not responsible for the Iraq debacle which has now killed nearly 3,000 of our boys.
John Murtha actually put on a uniform and went to war. How many of those in congress have a member of their family fighting for our freedom.   Answer 1
John Murtha is not perfect. Yet W insists he cannot find a single thing he has done wrong.

We won the election and we will fix all the problems that they have left us with. Just give us a chance to do it.

Nancy Pelosi is not perfect.
Nancy Pelosi will do a great job.

The dirt was always there. It wasn't REPORTED until after the election.

There are plenty of Democratic scandals, including william jefferson and his $90,000 bribe money in his freezer, Harry Reid and his indian casino money from Jack Abramoff's clients (Abramoff, according to today's reports, is about to lower the boom on 6-8 Democratic senators he was involved with....how come THAT didn't get into play during the campaign?), not to mention all those Democrats who had to hurriedly "revise" their accounting of travel after the DeLay scandal, to show that they were getting theirs from lobbyists too (this includes nancy pelosi!).

And sex-wise, didn't we have a president using a girl, young enough to be his daughter, as his personal sperm bank?  An emotionally unstable, powerless trainee being used by the head of the organization for sex, in the workplace during the workday? You want to compare that to the messaging Foley sent, without even one of those pages claiming he so much as laid a hand on him?

No, this isn't some vindictive scandal-hunt after the election.  The scandal is that all of this existed before the election but voters were kept ignorant by our "neutral" media.

Corruption: A Bipartisan Activity

Ken Berwitz

For anyone who thinks corruption is only on one side of the aisle, here is part of a report from ABC news - which nobody will ever accuse of being Republican cheerleaders:

A source close to the investigation says Abramoff told prosecutors that more than $30,000 in campaign contributions to Reid from Abramoff's clients "were no accident and were in fact requested by Reid."

Abramoff has reportedly claimed the Nevada senator agreed to help him on matters related to Indian gambling.

The Associated Press reported earlier this year that Reid wrote at least four letters helpful to the tribes that had contributed money to his campaign.

Reid has denied there was any connection between the letters and the contributions and has said he is a longtime opponent of certain kinds of Indian reservation gambling.

The AP reported that Reid acknowledged "routine contacts" with Abramoff's lobbying partners and intervening to block rival tribal casinos.

The AP also reported that Abramoff's billing records showed extensive contact with Reid's office over a three-year period in which Reid collected more than $68,000 from Abramoff's firm, partners and clients.

Prosecutors have said that Abramoff's cooperation is essential to the corruption investigation, but, so far, they have brought only one prosecution against a member of Congress connected to Abramoff, Republican Bob Ney of Ohio, who resigned.

The source said prosecutors do not intend to rely solely on Abramoff's account of events, and his allegations against Reid and others will not necessarily result in criminal charges.

Sources close to the federal investigation say Abramoff has offered testimony about his contacts with "six to eight seriously corrupt Democratic senators" and an ever larger number of Republican members of Congress.

The point, of course, is that there are corrupt politicians on both sides of the aisle.  Democrats are fully vested in this sorry endeavor, no less than Republicans.

I ask again as I have over the past days:  Why is this suddenly news AFTER the elections, when voters can't incorporate these facts into their decisions?
